I’m not sure. I’ve long heard of Children of Bodom, but I’ve never actually heard anything by them. Perhaps I should look them up on MySpace or YouTube. Sonata Arctica is going in a bit more symphonic direction with their most recent album. Their first several albums were more showcases of double bass drums with some ballads interspersed here and there. 🙂
I never noticed them mentioned in the suggestions on youtube (Children of Bodom) have look em up too. If you are into symphonic metal check out Within temptation, they did a whole concert with a full orchestra. to me it’s awesome. some mopre by them Faster, Angels.

I hear you. These “true metalheads” remind me of those militant atheists who tear to shreds anyone who is even remotely religous. My response to them is this: So what if I like a few “false metal” bands such as Linkin Park, Cold, Flaw, Ill Nino, Killswitch Engage, and Korn? How does it harm them?
:dts:

It makes us look like a bunch of… well… they lump us in with you people.

Just check out some real metal bands, you never know you might even like them.

Hi everyone.

I’m new to this forum. While I listen to lots of different kinds of music, I love a fair amount of metal and am a practicing Catholic. Here’s a list:

Agalloch
Clutch
Opeth
Meshuggah
Mastodon
Dream Theater
Cult of Luna
Porcupine Tree
Tool (Lateralus and 10,000 Days)
Cynic
Fates Warning
Queensryche
Orphaned Land
Rush
Extol
King’s X
Galactic Cowboys

Its nice to see other Catholics that are into this stuff as well.

hahaha, certainly, Iron maiden, metallica, demon hunter etc

I’ve been listening to iron maiden since High school, some of their song I like would include.

hallowed be thy name
fear of the dark
Doctor, Doctor
dance of death
trooper
flight of icarus
out of the silent planet
lightning strikes twice
etc

Welcome to CAF! 👋 I don’t come across many fellow Galactic Cowboys fans. They’ve long been one of my favorites.

Joe,

Yeah, they’ve been a favorite of mine for a long time too. By far one of the best and underrated bands. And they put on one heck of a live show!!!

I’m jealous that you saw them live.😛 I’d love to see them reunite for a comeback album.

Although they are more just a rock band, they get lumped with metal is Clutch. My favorite band, I’ve seen they about 30 times live. They never disappoint. The best band in the world in my opinion.

To Joey1976-
Yeah, I think I’ve seen them 3-4 times when they opened for King’s X. Great memories!

To Joe 5859-
I’ve only seen Clutch once, but it was an incredible show!!

I’m really fond of lead.
😃 “I Love Gooooold!!”

I’m sorry I just noticed this thread that started a while ago 🤷

Life-long metal fan. Love it!! Other stuff, too but always metal in heavy rotation.

Iron Maiden
Motorhead
MSG
Rainbow
Sabbath/Dio
Trivium
Lacuna Coil
UFO
Rush
Thin Lizzy
Ozzy
Megadeth
Judas Priest
Helmet
Grip, Inc
The first 2 Def Leppard albums
Black Country Communion (more rock I suppose)
…and many more of course…

And like so many others, I loathe modern church music and prefer the older stuff.

At church, I like traditional hymns rather than contemporary Christian rock.

Outside of church, although I like other music like punk, jazz, and classic rock, I am another fellow metalhead. I like bands from many subgenres of heavy metal; most of them play power metal, melodic death metal, or melodic metalcore though. Here is a list of the metal bands that I like:
  • Sonata Arctica
  • Iron Maiden
  • DragonForce
  • HammerFall
  • Stratovarius
  • Scar Symmetry (first three albums)
  • Solution .45
  • Dark Tranquility
  • Kalmah
  • Insomnium
  • As I Lay Dying
  • Avenged Sevenfold (second and third album)
  • Killswitch Engage
  • All That Remains
  • Judas Priest
  • Black Sabbath
  • Demon Hunter
  • Shadows Fall
  • In Flames
  • Dio
  • Ensiferum
  • Alestorm
  • Korpiklaani
  • Unearth
  • Napalm Death
  • All Shall Perish (with their older vocalist)
  • As Blood Runs Black
  • Necrophagist
  • Nile
  • Obscura
  • Equilibrium

I love metal ranging to as heavy as deathcore.
-August Burns Red
-The Devil Wears Prada
-For Today
-Haste the Day (love these guys)
-As I Lay Dying
-Demon Hunter
-Impending Doom
-MyChildren MyBride
-Texas in July

BTW, all of these bands are Christian.

Other bands I like include:
-We Came as Romans
-Killswitch Engage
-Avenged Sevenfold
-I the Breather
-Oh Sleeper

Very nice! But what genre would this be? I certainly wouldn’t call it heavy metal.
If I am not mistaken, it’s more of a symphonic metal or gothic metal (like Tristania, Trail of Tears, Mortemia and Sirenia).

I am a metalhead too! I enjoy listening to Judas Priest, Killswitch Engage, Halford (solo project of Rob Halford, lead vocalist of Judas Priest), Tristania, Arch Enemy and many more. I do love the genre because of it’s technicality, originality and the vocal prowess of the singers, ranging from harsh screams and growls to clean and powerful singing. Although I admit I’m not much into thrash, black and old school death metal, I do love melodic death metal.

I also love Fratello Metallo. I loved it even more when I learned that the lead vocalist is a Capuchin friar (Bro. Cesare Bonizzi). It only shows that even the most devout of Catholics love heavy metal music. It also shows the universality of metal music! 😃

i love thrash/groove(metallica, megadeth, dark angel, fueled by fire, pantera, annihilator, exodus (early), hellyeah, flotsam and jetsam, vengeance rising and testament), melodeath (children of bodom, darkane, dark tranquility), technical death metal (nile, krig, suffocation). i also enjoy bluegrass (bill monroe and other early acts. none of that newgrass ****), southern rock (allman bros, ZZ top), and some country. concerning christian metal, i don’t really care. to me, it’s all metal. some of it sucks, and some of it kicks major butt.

i totally forgot about NWOBHM! iron maiden, saxon, and judas priest.
