IT SEEMS LIKE SO MANY ON THIS FORUM WILL HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH ANYONE WHO IS NOT CATHOLIC. SOME OF US WEREN’T BORN CATHOLIC AND IT TOOK US YEARS TO GET HERE. IMHO, THE REASON SO MANY OF US LIKE JOYCE IS BECAUSE SHE HAS “BEEN THERE AND DONE THAT”. MANY OF US WHO WERE NOT ORIGINALLY CATHOLIC COULD MORE EASILY RELATE TO HER. I SAY SHE HAS BEEN A GOD SEND TO MANY OF US WHO WERE LOST. MAYBE HER THEOLOGY IS NOT THE SAME AS YOURS, BUT GOD SENT HER TO MANY OF US TO BRING US BACK TO HIM. THEN WE MADE THE DECISION THE CATHOLIC CHURCH IS WHERE WE WANTED TO BE. THE END RESULT WAS GOOD. WE ALL HAVE DIFFERENT WAYS OF DOING THE SAME THING, BUT THE END RESULT IS GOOD. GIVE US A BREAK. SHE’S BRINGING SOULS BACK TO GOD AND THAT IS A GOOD THING! WHY DOES EVERYTHING HAVE TO BE SO BLACK AND WHITE TO SO MANY OF YOU?

WAKE UP AND SEE ALL THE PRETTY COLORS IN BETWEEN BLACK AND WHITE! 👍
Hi dale(name removed by moderator),

It’s always good to ‘meet’ a fellow convert to Catholicism! 🙂 I’m sorry if it appears that I am being hardline on JM but I, like you, also took many years to study and understand the Catholic faith (about 10 years). And, as you say, it wasn’t easy.

I have to say as gently as I possibly can that I don’t warn against JM just to be contrary or to deny you or anyone else something that you like. I do so because, in truth, she is very good at ‘tickling the ears’ and those who are able to do that have the ability to confuse or persuade others to believe their untruths. Sometimes their mistakes or untruths are not that easy to catch (I’m not saying that JM is deliberately tellling untruths; I cannot judge her mind nor would I try…I only ‘test’ what she says).

I would be concerned for any Catholic/Christian who listens/watches her. 😦 There are many better sources for help in spiritual growth than those that lead away from the truth. One just has to take the time to look for them. 😉

In Christ,
Lisa

I guess it’s just me, but motivational speakers give me the pip. I just can’t stand all that INTENSITY! It strikes me as hectoring.
As one of the posters put it - it’s like if only you poor slob had as much faith as I do, you too can be rich just like me.

No thanks.

I was not born Catholic. I am a convert sinces 1995. As I stated I do not listen to any non-Catholic Spiritual Motivational Speaker, Evangelist or Preacher. In the past I have stayed away from non-Catholic speakers to avoid confusion on my Catholic journey. Now that I am strong & confident in my faith, there is no reason to listen to them either. As a Catholic, if I need inspiration there are many Catholics to watch on EWTN or read their books, listen to tapes. If on your journey of faith you started out listening to JM & you eventually came home to the Catholic Church, that’s great, but as a Catholic I don’t see why we would watch a non-Catholic speaker, IMO. I can see where it might make someone who is weak in their Catholic faith confused, and if you are strong in your Catholic faith, what do/would you get out of it? :twocents: 🙂

Wow from your profile you mentioned you are a hard core Catholic. Good for you. May i ask how God use you ? What kind of evangelistic job you have done for Christian community?? I believe pple like you whom have such a solid Catholic teaching must have impacted many pple around, just like Joyce Meyer did, or should i say even better then her, you mentioned you have no time for charlatans and heretics thus i believe God really uses Catholic like you to move pple in a powerful way…Please share with the rest how and what have you done, so that others can be motivated as well:thumbsup:
I realize you’re being sarcastic and I seem to have struck a sore spot with you. As such, I don’t feel I need to give you my resume, but I teach Confirmation class and am the Director of Pro-Life Activities with my Knights of Columbus council.
Joyce Meyer teaches heresy - and that is something I cannot abide, especially because she does it for purposes of wealth.
If that is something you approve of, go for it. As for me and my house - we will serve the Lord.

ABSOLUTELY not.
If I listened to a speech by Hitler or Mao Tse Tung or Fidel Castro and out of fear or disgust, that led me to the Catholic Church by the work of the Holy Spirit - should I give credit to them? Absolutely NOT.
The Holy Spirit deserves ALL the credit.
What I see here is political correctness and a false sense of tolerance run amok.
**I don’t **hate or dislike Joyce Meyer. On the contrary - I pray that ALL come to the fullness of truth that is the Catholic Church. It’s just that I have little time for charlatans and heretics who make millions by leading so many astray - like those in the Word-Faith movement. Those like Paul Crouch, Benny Hinn, Kenneth Copeland and yes, Joyce Meyer.

UNTIL YOU’VE WALKED A MILE IN MY SHOES…😉

You don’t seem to have any idea of the road that leads to Rome for many people. A lot of us here do. And we see the hand of God working in our lives in the oddest of ways at times. His ways are not always our ways or yours. Try to remember that when you become rigid and condemning of the people that are used to bring us here.

There’s a** BIG **difference in Joyce Meyer and some of the people and philosophies you’ve listed above, Joyce is a *fellow Christian *who LOVES CHRIST and has given her life to bring others closer to him.

She may not be in the FULLNESS of truth yet, but she’s doing an awful lot with the truth she does posses. And an awful lot of people are being helped along the way in their journey to the fullness of truth.

God uses anyone who’s willing to be used. Attitudes of self-righteousness don’t do a lot to make people think Catholicism is the truth. We are to speak in TRUTH and CHARITY. It’s something we all have to try to remember.

I agree with you Dale(name removed by moderator). I no longer listen to Joyce, she doesn’t speak to everything I now believe as a Catholic. But there was a time in my life when I needed SOMETHING to reach me, and Christ used her, BECAUSE SHE WAS WILLING TO BE USED. And He spoke to me through the instrument of Joyce Meyer.

Now, it didn’t take long before He also showed me a lot of error in her Christian views, many of which she has since given up herself, BTW, but still, she was willing and able and I benefited spiritually from that. And then the Lord moved me on down the road.

So, I’m not endorsing that Catholics who have access to so much more, should go backward and listen to half truths. But I don’t endorse some of the blanket hatred here toward a fellow Christian who is doing the absolute best with what she currently possesses, which is more than most of us, and she does it out of LOVE.

There IS no “BIG” difference" between Meyer and the others - only subtle differences.

You forgot the first part of your comparison, which is what I found appalling and very uncharitable.
If I listened to a speech by Hitler or Mao Tse Tung or Fidel Castro and out of fear or disgust, that led me to the Catholic Church by the work of the Holy Spirit - should I give credit to them? Absolutely NOT
I will reiterate what I posted previously, I don’t endorse Meyer’s theology, it is half truth, and filled with many errors. I do know for a fact that Christ uses her to reach people, and then moves them on. You might not like His ways, but you can’t change them. His ways are not yours, or mine. 😉

We could argue until the cows come home. If you are determined to be right, there’s not much in the way of conversation that will soften you as to your uncharitableness towards another Christian, as is the teaching of the Church and what CA expects from us also. I’m glad I didn’t bump into you on my journey home, it probably would have taken me a while longer to get here. 😛

See, it’s this kind of statement that I find highly offensive. Actually really downright mean.

As if because you do XYZ, you serve the Lord and we do not?
And because we may enjoy Joyce M. ,then we are not serving God?

No, sir, you are being mean-spirited.

I have been through some very tough times and , for awhile attended functions at an AOG church with a friend of mine.
(I have been a committed Cathoic for a longlife time. Today, I
can still remember my first communion, and several events
that I now realize strengtened my faith. Maybe it was the
fact that my mother had me confirmed when I was a baby.
That was common in Mexico at the time, and when she
took me as an infant, she had me confirmed there.)
Attending these functions helped me see that most of these
speakers really want you to be “saved.” I seemed to be more
aware of the anti-Catholic remarks than anything else so I
just quit attending anything that had a speaker. My friend was
going through a tough time so I didn’t want to quit altogether.
Now to tie it into the topic: About 2 years ago I moved in with
my mother to take care of her. I also work and the first years
was very traumatic. Just to tell you that my mother treated me
very badly so things were difficult. Not only emotionally , but
physically since I wasn’t getting much sleep. I shared some of
this with one sister (the one who left the church and is non-
catholic) and her help was to send me JM tapes and non-catholic
motivational books. Sorry but they are sitting there and I don’t
intend to hear or read them. I’ve seen many people led astray
by the likes of JM and while I know I won’t be one of them’ I
don’t even want to “support” her by listening to them.
Now I don’t share my feelings with that sister (I really just
wanted her to pray for me and listen. She has taken care of
my mom less than a month but had some of the problems
I did.) If I were to share, I might get more tapes! I will say that
the last gift that sister gave me was a beautiful gold and silver
crucifix! I love her and don’t want to hurt her feelings so that
is why I don’t get rid of them. (She comes for a week twice a
year to give me a break and I don’t want her not to see them.)
So,JM, thanks but no thanks.

You are taking this WWWAAAAYYYY too personally.
My comparison to the 3 monsters of history is only to drive home a point:
When we are called home - HOWEVER that may be - it is by the Holy Spirit that we are called - NOT by the instrument He used.

No, sir, you are being mean-spirited.
I never said that YOU weren’t serving God.
My whole point is that these “teachers” preach a different Christ than the one found in the New Testament.
If telling the truth about these "wolves in sheep’s clothing" is being “mean-spirited” to you - that is something YOU need to work out.

If that is the case then how dare you criticise ANY instrument the Holy Spirit may choose to use in getting us home - which obviously includes or has included Ms Meyer for some of us!

If you can point to having brought a greater number of people to Catholicism yourself than she has, let alone to Christ, then do so. Until then cease and desist.

Remember, St Paul would’ve looked pretty dodgy to those he first preached to about Christ (ex persecutor of Christians? ) and there was a period where some of the Apostles seem to have been more than a little unclear theologically too (as is shown in the circumcision debate). This doesn’t mean that they weren’t genuine and genuine instruments of God.

Maybe it’s your use of intense color that gives the impression of hostility and I am seemingly over-reacting to it. 😉 I think the Mod asked nicely that you not do that, probably for this reason. 😊

Nonetheless, I’m not taking it personally, I’m not Joyce Meyer. I do have a tendancy to take up for people who don’t deserve a certain level of animosity directed toward them, especially when, as a Christian, her heart is not intentionally in opposition to God. And her theology is improving, she has moved away from her seed/faith teachings she had been into, which leads me to believe that her heart is open to correction from God, and although He may not be moving at lightening speed as we would wish, He is moving.

I do think that your energy should not be wasted on denegrading another Christian in this regard, rather thanking God for using such inadequate instruments as Joyce Meyer and all the rest of us, in spite of all our shortcomings in regard to either error in theology and/or judgement. JMHO. 😉 😃

Nope - your post saying you are serving God is what’s got me irritated. As if others cannot…but perhaps in a different way than you see fit.

Plus your use of font is troubling as well. It’s appears as an angry and dominant font.

NOBODY is criticizing Joyce Meyer. NOBODY is criticizing YOU.
You guys need to stop taking this so personally and understand what I am saying. I am not atacking you OR Joyce Meyer. I am simply telling you what she teaches.

**Joyce Meyer and ALL of the Word-Faith teachers teach heresy. **You would be wise to avoid that type of counterfeit theology.
If that still makes you angry, there is nothing I can say to make it better. It is what it is - HERESY.

You’re angry because I said I was serving the Lord?? I never said “others cannot” serve the Lord".
My problem with televangelists like Joyce Meyer is that they teach a DIFFERENT Jesus that Catholicism (in fact, Evangelical Christianity as a whole). It’s counterfeit theology. If it makes you angry that I pointed that out, there is nothing more I can say. I CERTAINLY was not attacking you or any of the other posters.

Don’t be troubled by my font-usage. I assure you - I am NOT angry in the least. Using color, boldface and caps is simply a way of emphasizing my written speech.

But here’s the problem. According to our Church, all Christians outside of Catholicism teach some form of heresy, this we all can agree on. But what we’re having trouble with here, is the tone of the condemnation from you.

Even the Church does not condone this. We are to be charitable. What we are trying to stress to you, is you need to soften your tone a bit. We all agree her teaching is off. But her spirit seems to be more tolerable that yours. At least that’s the way you’re coming off here. 😊 🤷

There are people here who are not Catholic, and the witness we can show concerning our love for all Christians means just about everything. Otherwise, what you say about truth is just noise. I Cor. 13
