Sorry , I have not figured out how to quote. I just wanted to ask you Little Mary if you were born into the Catholic faith ?

If you were , then do you have any clue at all what a grace it is to BE Catholic , with all of its lovely fulless and history ?

Have you ever struggled with your faith and had to decide for yourself if it was absolutely true ?

Can you separate the things you were taught as a child from the things you KNOW to be true because you have found out from the Lord yourself ?

Would you throw out the death and resurection of our Lord and Savior because Joyce Meyers believes and teaches it and isnt Catholic ?

Do you know that of all truely christ centered religions , the differences amout to only 5 %? (Granted that that 5 % can be seriously important .).
If you want to include a quote, just click the quote button on the bottom right hand corner of the post you want to quote. It will take you to the reply page and you can type your comments in below the quote.

You have no idea how I arrived at my Catholicism and where I am spiritually in my life. Therefore, your questions are judgmental and do not merit a response.

I will agree that the differences in the Christ centered religions may be few, but they are biggies. You said yourself they are “seriously important”.

Little Mary,
On this forum, you are one of the few who can not be accused of having no grace. Keep up the good work (and role modeling). 🙂

Jesus I trust in You. Jesus I trust in You. Jeuss I trust in You.

what is meant by Word Faith teaching?
Good question. Now related to the topic at hand I am not sure Joyce Meyer would be called a Word of Faith teacher, but I could be wrong on that.

If I understand this correctly, Word of Faith teaching is a component of the Pentecostal/Charismatic wing of Christianity (although many more traditional Pentecostal/Charismatic branches like Assemblies of God do not buy into Word of Faith theology).

The basic tenets of this theology is that God wants his people to be physically healthy and monetarily prosperous. You attain this state via faith. Faith is evidenced via a positive confession…your words.

Therefore in order to be healed, you first believe that you will be healed and then confess with your mouth that you are healed. If you are not healed, something is wrong with either your faith or your confession.

Some of the more extreme variants of this theology claim that going to a doctor represents a negative confession and therefore is a lack of faith. Some of the more extreme varianst of this theology claim that just to admit you are sick represents a negative confession and a lack of faith.

IMHO this deviant variation of Christianity survives only because Christians are not intellectually honest with themselves and others. Otherwise they should see that this is false the first time they catch a cold and are healed in about 21 days or so.

BTW I had great fun in college with a buddy who was into this malarky trying to get him to say he had a cold. It just seemed to me this guy had a problem with honesty here.

Some of the more extreme varianst of this theology claim that just to admit you are sick represents a negative confession and a lack of faith.

A coworker of mine once said she felt a sore throat coming on. Another coworker (who belongs to a “non-denominational” fellowship by the name of “Amazing Grace”) told her that she had just made a “bad confession.”

I didn’t know what she was talking about.

(This is also the same coworker who said she once went to a Catholic funeral and found it scary because of the priest “swinging around that big ball on a chain with all the smoke coming out of it.”)

I don’t care for her - or for anyone else who preaches the prosperity gospel. She and her family have become very wealthy from her “business.” There are many good examples of people who have given up so much to serve our Lord. I personally prefer to watch or read their work.

Let’s not nitpick. 😉
**EVERYone had their own style **of writing.
I work in publishing and picked up the style from all of the proofing I have to do.😛
And are all the books your company publishes in bold and coloured and capitalised like your own writing? I’d never buy a one of 'em if they were. Nor would anyone who has normal vision.

And how about responding to the other points I made in my post? They’re a bit more important than the stylistic issues

I’m not going to discuss this issue with you anymore because you keep ranting about the same issues you have with me, instead of admitting that Joyce Meyer is a counterfeit evangelist and a heretic. You accuse me of being angry yet your posts have been much more acrimonious.
The bottom line is that you just don’t get it - or refuse to.
As for your problems with color - get over it.

The colours are hard on my eyes too. 😦

You are very sweet. Thank you.:blushing:

I realize you’re being sarcastic and I seem to have struck a sore spot with you. As such, I don’t feel I need to give you my resume, but I teach Confirmation class and am the Director of Pro-Life Activities with my Knights of Columbus council.
Joyce Meyer teaches heresy - and that is something I cannot abide, especially because she does it for purposes of wealth.
If that is something you approve of, go for it. As for me and my house - we will serve the Lord.

Hi There

Good at least you know is not very nice to be sarcastic to anyone. Bear in mind, the more humble you are the more you be like God. You can certainly tell me off by saying i’m not in a position and moreover i am a cradle who doesn’t bear any good fruits at all, but then again you are those group of Christ believers whom i truly detest mixing around with, WHY, becoz nothing good come out from your mouth , full of negative words towards a Christ believer . Where is your merciful heart??

Just becoz you call yourself a catholic christian doesn’t give you any right to stand before God now to back stab other. Although i’m not a fan of JM, but then again how Holy Spirit move in her to help others are sufficient then your one thousand words of condemning her, for your eye sees only earthly stuff of what she has, MONEY!!! You are not God, so do not assume she do things out of wealth and beware of judgement that stands before you.

Learn to be Humble and charitable in your words. To be a hard core Catholic does not mean you go around labeling people as heretics, Obedience comes lst more then anything. I never once heard about my pastor teaching me to bad mouth others and never before i went to a Mass that i heard a Father mentioned that we can bad mouth others…

From your reply here, more or less i grasp what kind of Christ believer you are, thus don’t even bother about sharing your resume becoz if i’m interested to know Catholicism, you won’t be the person i will approach.

Joyce Meyer does not teach that one should believe in Jesus for the purpose of becoming financially rich.
She DOES teach the scriptural principle that those who give generously as they are able to the Kingdom (not just to “her” ministry) will be rewarded by God in all ways including financially.
Christ himself taught the same thing, the Old Testament taught it, and St. Paul teaches it in 2nd Corinthians 9.
If you sow sparingly, you reap sparingly.
That does not mean that someone who is dirt-poor should feel guilty about not being able to make large financial gifts. You give as you are able, but the key is that you give (whether financially or of your time to the church) as GENEROUSLY and cheerfully as you are able, and you will receive a multiplicity of rewards from Christ. You may not become wealthy financially, but if you do SOW abundantly, you will reap a good Harvest, spiritually and materially. The key is that if you reap a good material harvest, you aren’t supposed to HOARD it for yourself so as to become a multimillionaire living high-on-the-Hog, no, but the more you get, the more you invest in the Gospel and in service to the poor and needy.
There are hundreds of people who attend my Catholic parish.
Most of these people are NOT POOR. They aren’t rich by any means, but most of them are NOT poor. But do you know what the average donation to the Collection plate is at my parish?
It’s printed in the bulletin. The average member of my parish
gives to the church TWO DOLLARS AND SEVENTY-THREE CENTS A WEEK. I’m sorry, but THAT is sowing sparingly.
For poor people who can only give a dollar, that’s fine. In fact, such a person is giving more than the biggest donor in the church because the poor person will really MISS that dollar, just like the poor widow who donated only one or two coins to the Temple whom Jesus praised so highly. He praised her so highly because she was being even more generous than she could AFFORD.
That’s the Key, too: The poor widow’s treasure was God’s Temple and His Worship and she gave all she had. Where is OUR treasure? Do we spend $20 a week on Lottery tickets, but only put $4.00 in the collection plate at church?? If we do, our priorities, frankly, are BACKWARDS.
Joyce Meyer is not to be criticized for encouraging people to invest in the Gospel and to give to programs for the poor and needy. She does not teach that one should serve God for the PURPOSE of being Super-Rich financially.
She is speaking in accord with scriptural principles.
Because the Catholic Church does not REQUIRE it’s members to tithe, a great many Catholics obviously feel that they have little or no responsibility to the Church or to the spread of the Gospel.
If we can’t give MONEY to the church, we can volunteer a couple of hours of our spare time. Or even give old clothing to the church clothing drive that we don’t use anymore. But the point is, scripture does teach that if we sow sparingly, we will reap sparingly (2nd Corinthians 9). Mrs. Meyer is not wrong to remind people of that. I just wish she was a Catholic.

Hi There
Glad that you as a Catholic, understand where she is coming from.

I understand where she is coming from. I watch her half hour show almost every morning. Contrary to what some have said here, she is NOT a “Word-Faith” preacher. They are confusing her with a couple of other T.V. evangelists. She does not claim that whatever you speak as words will result in things happening. That’s more along the lines of Kenneth and Gloria Copeland, and it borders on magic, not Christianity, and Joyce does not teach that stuff.

Nor is she a money-monger.
There are some TV preachers who are.
Robert Tilton of “Success -n- Life” is one of them.
These folks, NOT Joyce, claim that if you send them
your last $2000 from your bank account, God will send you back
$200,000 in return and stuff like that. That kind of preaching is crass and sacrilegious, and I cannot stand it. And Joyce Meyer is NOT one of those grub-hungry preachers.

People need to get their facts straight before
they make nasty accusations.

Thank you for your post. I think it’s important for people to be careful what they say when they don’t know the whole truth of something, statments can all too quickly become slander, which is just as bad, if not worse in the eyes of God, as the error and heresies they accuse Joyce of teaching, who genuinely doesn’t know any better.

I know that years ago, Joyce was bordering on the extreme health/wealth teachings, but she didn’t stay there long. Like I said in a previous post, I think that she is unlike some of the others out there, she genuinely wants to be obedient to God and has corrected her teachings, come back from left field, so to speak. Is she 100 percent where we want to see her as Catholics, far from that, but she’s not what some here are accusing her of, and that’s what makes me upset and also sad, but for them.

We as Catholics, claim to (and are supposed to) have more light than those outside our Church, and with that comes responsibility, not just to beat people over the head with it, or to outright dismiss what light and faith they do have, but to live ours out in love, and if necessary, speak the truth in love, not arrogance or anger. We’ll never win them over with the statements and attitudes that have been thrown about here the last few days. 😦

In the old days (pre-vatican II) it would have been considered a “danger to the faith” and a sin or at least a near occasion of sin to listen to or read the heretical works of a Joyce Meyer. In those days you had to have your parish priest’s permission to even attend a protestant wedding or funeral service.

I don’t suppose this is true any more but it does say that the Church considered it important to guard your faith and not expose yourself unnecessarily to those preaching heresies.

Joyce Meyer ‘sounds’ good …but can lead you away from the truth of the faith rather quickly. Be careful.

By the way has anyone ever seen her when she speaks in tongues and then 'interprets" them herself. Quite a show.

I never hear her speaking in tongues and interprets it herself. If i did not remembered wrongly she didn’t even pray in tongue when she came to my church last year.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch did an extensive story some time back on the finances of her “ministry.” Later, two of the five homes purchased for her family by the ministry were put up for sale, listed at more than $2 million. Sounds pretty lucrative to me.

sounds like jealousy to me.
Joyce is ok. She does much charity work and runs a couple of homes for girls in trouble. We have prayer in common and good works. I have never heard her say anything that would compromise the Truth, so I can be ecumenical under those circumstances.

Honestly, in this day and age, in the world we live in, its good to see people talking about Jesus. Im catholic, ill make that clear, but to see people like Joyce talking from the heart and inspiring others is great to see. She is a stand up citizen in my books, good on her!

Another thing about Joyce Meyer is she tends to promote the gospel of prosperity.
