I also like All Creatures of Our God and King. Non Catholic origins (Anglican?)
St Francis of Assisi origins . šŸ˜„

Good to know! I thought at least the melody had Protestant origins.

I thought at least the melody had Protestant origins.
So did I , but I’ve just discovered that its first appearance was in the 1623 hymnal Auserlesene, Catholische, Geistliche KirchengesƤng (Selected Catholic Spiritual Church-Songs) .

How Great Thou Art is a good one that I don’t think I’ve heard at a Catholic Mass yet.
I have not heard it at a Catholic Mass yet either; but interestingly enough, my dad, who was born in the early 50s and was raised Catholic, says they used to sing it at Mass. I don’t know if the period when they sang it was pre- or post-Vatican II, but I thought that was interesting. I love that hymn, too.

It was sung at both my parents’ Funeral Mass .

How Grest Thou Art is played frequently in my Catholic Church, which is quite strict in its music.

At a Good Friday mass I’ve heard the hymn Were You There When They Crucified my Lord.

I believe that has Protestant origins too,

ā€œCling to the crossā€ terrified me when I first heard it, since I was so used to the Catholic Mass hymns

Now I like it!

It is a spiritual; it was most likely composed by African American slaves. I like that one, too.šŸ‘

Thanks. I’m not having any luck with my alma mater, so I’ll have to start casting a bigger net.

Definitely contemporary, but not Anglican! I hate those hymns.

It is common around here as a Mass song.

I always sing the traditional performance second refrain, just a habit I cannot break as I have performed this one since childhood.

…feel the gentle breeze.

My soul is filled
With singing, Lord to Thee
Oh Mighty God, how great thou art

Then sings my soul…
