Perhaps that is true on a international basis, but in pluralistic, developed, western nations, I highly doubt that pushing the “pick-n-choose” people out would swell the membership ranks.
So you think the “pick-n-choose” people are the ones that are supporting the Church? Are they mailing it?..'cause they sure aren’t showing up on Sunday to put it in the basket!

As for looking up the specific church doctrines, I confess, I cannot. Mainly because I took every Catholic book in the house and set it alight in my back yard the night I had my final straw with the church.
Why are you here?

“Very badly” I’m guessing, means the church would lose a lot of members…

I’m not saying all Catholics would jump ship, but a good number would. Think of how many kids you see trailing in behind the husbands and wives at mass…and please don’t tell me they had a maximum of three kids through rigid adherence to NFP. I’m not buying. There were too many “Good Catholics” I ran into who were sterilized or on birth control.

If the Vatican went militant over the “pro-life” issue and strict adherence to birth control doctrine, you wouldn’t see more babies born. You’d see more empty pews. I’m willing to bet money on it.
Go outside of the Western world to Latin America, the Philippines, Africa. The Catholics remain faithful and families are blessed to have a lot of children.

The United States is a whole different world. Mother Teresa implied that the United States had the most poverty in the world - poverty in the sense that it had lost its moral and spiritual fiber.

The Church will not lose as many members as you think in the scenario that you suggested. I know that members of the Latino Catholic community in the United States do not hold it against the Church if they are not allowed to partake in the Eucharist because of divorce. There is no reason to be angry at the Church. You can just try harder to live a better life.

God Bless the Catholic Church!

Why are you here?
I received an e-mail from this board after leaving it (and the church) a while ago. I saw the “hot topics” and couldn’t help clicking. I regret it, but that is why I’m here. You asked.

I use my computer for other things, hence, I couldn’t burn it along with the rest of the rubbish.

Actually, the pastoral minister at our last parish was a pick-n-choose. So far as I can tell, he showed up to mass regularly…unless that was his doppleganger I saw hanging out with the priest.

I thought the church was about TRUTH, not attendance, donations, etc. The way, the truth and the life, and let the chips fall where they may.

They have a great shell game going though, every bishop but Pelosi’s bishop condemns her acts, but it doesn’t count, because only HER bishop can actually forbid her from receiving the sacraments! A little three card monte!

People outside the church are concerned that if they become Roman Catholic they would have to obey the Pope, to which I say,“Why, nobody in the Catholic church does!”

Do you actually have latino friends?

“Live a better life…”

I live a good life. I spend most of my time involved in volunteer work and work with disabled children. Isn’t it funny that the “Good Catholics” assume all the people who leave the Church are the bad ones? 😉

Thanks for the good laugh. At least you are a predictable lot. 👍

Yes, I do have Latino friends. I didn’t say you are a bad person. You don’t have to agree with the Church or be a perfect person, but it is the Church’s duty to encourage a moral way of life.

It seems like you are angry because an abortion has affected your life. Know that Jesus is always there, waiting for you to return to Him. If the Catholic Church is not the place where you want to seek God, then that’s your choice.

Maybe this article about Abortion, Forgiveness and Living Divine Mercy would be helpful to you:

thedivinemercy.org/news/story.php?NID=173&PLID=71
Pope John Paul II had a special message for women who have had an abortion:
The Church is aware of the many factors which may have influenced your decision, and she does not doubt in many cases it was a painful and even shattering decision. The wound in your heart may not yet have healed. Certainly what happened was and remains terribly wrong. But do not give in to discouragement and do not lose hope. Try rather to understand what happened and face it honestly. If you have not already done so, give yourselves over with humility and trust to repentance. The Father of Mercies is ready to give you His forgiveness and His peace in the Sacrament of Reconciliation. You will come to understand that nothing is definitively lost and you will also be able to ask forgiveness from your child, who is now living in the Lord.
I implore all of you, but especially those who have been caught up in the evil of abortion, to come back to Him, the Merciful Savior. And also know that God loves you as you are, and that He came to heal the sinner, not the upright. Reflect on the words of our Lord to St. Faustina: “The greater the sinner, the greater the right to My mercy” (Diary, 723).

So is your pastoral minister Joe Biden?

Being a pastoral minister doesn’t make him anything except arrogant if he’s not living what he professes. It’s not about being good; it’s about being holy.

And you know that he was a regular church goer because you go regularly and you see him there…I bet.

Thanks. I do wish you well on your journey. Had you not clicked, I couldn’t have wished you well. 🙂

Well, I was for several years. I was there daily and volunteered there at night.

Not anymore. I actively hate the catholic church now.

You can believe me or not (if it makes it easier for you), but I did. You suggested the cafeteria catholics didn’t support the church because they weren’t there on sundays. I’m telling you, I spoke very candidly with the pastoral minister and if that guy wasn’t a cafeteria catholic in the book of a jerk like you, I’d eat your hat and mine.

Well, you are wrong there…so don’t get too much enjoyment out of your statement.

The ones who leave the Catholic Church don’t really know what they are leaving. They would never leave if they knew how beautiful the Church’s teachings are. Now…go study and then come back home!

No interest in ever going to a catholic church again. I hate catholics, burned the catholic material I had, etc.

I know what I’m leaving. One true church my arse.

More empty pews would be a good thing. The time is coming soon when the liberal Catholics and the cafeteria Catholics and the “I did it my way” Catholics are going to leave the Church. There will be a lot, a LOT, A WHOLE LOT of empty pews, and that is all to the Glory of God. A small pure Church is infinitely more desirable than a huge, lukewarm, feel good church, and most of us eagerly wait that day.

Amen, sister Marsha!
