Exactly, and how is contraception even classified as ‘health care?’
Sadly this is built INTO the bill with page upon page of “The Secretary shall determine…” So in effect this unelected and anti-life female is in charge of the healthcare decisions for 300 million Americans. Congress and quite honestly I blame the Democrats, created a monstrosity of a bill and shoved it through. As Nanny Pelosi said we have to pass the bill to find out what’s in it. WE are reaping what they sowed.

BTW on an interesting note I heard that Kathleen Sebelius’ Bishop has asked her not to take Communion and she agreed. The sad thing is that the American public does not know this woman who calls herself a Catholic thereby demeaning all of the faithful Catholics, is not representative of our faith. I only wish more Bishops were as strong and would confront these politicians who want it both ways.

Mark Steyn at NRO says the mandate is like handing out condoms on the Titantic.
Steyn makes a good point and draws attention to the real problem: “. . . Geithner referred only to “demographic challenges” — an oblique allusion to the fact that the U.S. economy is about to be terminally clobbered by $100 trillion of entitlement obligations it can never meet.”

The debt railcar is headed full speed toward a cliff. But presumably when we go roaring off the cliff into oblivition, at least everyone will still have access to birth control.

You sound like a peacemaker, but truth must never be compromised.

Remember the Church has always used strong language for those who have no love for the truth; in fact she pronounces anathema upon those who have no regard for it and willfully refuse to listen.
Wow, you are so right. And that is exactly how I feel about other ways we are harming and killing people, such as through anthropogenic climate change. Despite the vast majority of climate scientists, two popes, many bishops, and sincere/concerned people like me (who have studied the issue closely for decades) saying it is real and harmful, and it’s everyone’s responsibility to mitigate it, about a third of Catholics refuse to listen and accept…they seek out other disreputable people to listen to, who say it is not a problem, while ignoring the legitimate people calling for prudence (mitigating, even if we are not completely convinced it is happening).

An elderly man in my parish, who had once studied to be a priest, told about how a good number of Catholic clergy tend to focus almost exclusively on sexually-related sins (immoral sex, abortion, birth control). One of his priest-teachers told the class something like, “If the woman [considering abortion or birth control] had the pleasure [of sex], then she should be punished by bearing and rearing the child.” It was statements like that that finally made him leave the seminary; but he went on to lead a life of self-sacrifice and exemplary good works until his death last year.

I guess it’s like this for many: sex alone equals sin. I would agree that immoral sex (and related behaviors, such as birth control and abortion) = sin, but only suggest that there are other non-sex-related sins as well, other ways in which we are harming and killing people. We shouldn’t be blinded to these (esp sins we may be culpable of ourselves) in our zeal to stamp our sex-related sins (which we may not personally be culpable of). I know it is easier to see other people’s sins than our own, but it is good now and then to look at ourselves and strive for perfection wit God’s grace. Only then, I think, will we come across legitimately to others and hope to gain their attention. That would also go for this issue in which we are striving to make others understand that forcing Catholic institutions to pay for insurance coverage for birth control really would amount to a sin for those institutions, thereby violating their 1st amendment rights.

It’s not that the Church is nit-picky about sex-related sins, such as contraception, but that it is nit-picky about all behaviors that harm people’s lives and souls, and rightly so.

Such a charitable post. Everyone who disagrees with your alarmist view on climate change is a liar and a fraud I don’t believe in man made global warming their is noteavhing of the Church that requires me to do so. Much as you would like to believe it driving a Prius and using low energy bulbs does not expiate anyone’s sins.

Sebelius is given way to much power.

I heard that too, on World over Live, that Sebelius’ Bishop asked her not to take Communion. Her pro abortion tactics have not changed though.

Obama Faces More Lawsuits Over Pro-Abortion HHS Mandate
The Obama administration is facing yet another lawsuit related to the controversial mandate President Barack Obama put in place that requires religious employers to pay for coverage for birth control and drugs that may cause abortions.
Alliance Defense Fund Senior Counsel Gregory Baylor will join Geneva College President Ken Smith Tuesday at a press conference to announce a new federal lawsuit against the Obama administration over what ADF and the college call its “unconstitutional mandate that religious employers provide abortifacients, sterilization, and contraception to employees regardless of religious or moral objections.”
“People of faith shouldn’t be punished by the state for following that faith in making decisions for themselves or their organizations,” said Baylor. “Every American should know that a government with the power to do this to anyone can do this–and worse–to everyone.”

No I realize we aren’t going to change HER attitude. I remember her most as the supporter of Tiller the Killer. She is also implicated in a PP scandal of unreported abortions for underage girls. Somehow all the records ‘disappeared’ during the investigation. I was listening to The World Over Live this morning (repeat) and an attorney for I think the Becket Fund said that the power of this woman is such that she could decree abortions and euthanasia or at the least withholding of care as necessary services. She has WAY TOO MUCH POWER and is one evil female. I guess we need to pray for her…hard for me certainly.

At any rate the courage of this Bishop might lead to more of our Priests and Bishops speaking out about “Catholics” who publically speak against the teachings of the Church. In the past politicians like Ted Kennedy, John Kerry, Nancy Pelosi seemed to be given a pass. I have to wonder if this is part of the reason they were so emboldened to push through this awful healthcare bill knowing all of the unexploded mines within.

Don’t try to derail this thread by touting your favorite subject which is way off target for many reasons; the most glaring of which is the absolute absence of acknowledging the true meaning of creation.

At least her Bishop and others had the courage to do it. Kudos to them!

Obama’s revised mandate fuels Bishop Rhoades’ reflections
“I was very disappointed,” said Bishop Rhoades of the Fort Wayne-South Bend diocese, in a Feb. 17 interview with CNA. “My expectations were not high because when I heard the word ‘compromise,’ I thought to myself, ‘Well, how do you compromise on religious freedom?’ But I wanted to see what he had to say, though. I was open-minded.”

What resulted “wasn’t even an accommodation,” said the bishop, but another “denial of our rights of conscience and right to religious freedom. So it makes us very sad. I think it is something we need to fight.”
For Bishop Rhoades, being a bishop in the United States is no longer a position of “prestige or honor” but is about “loving service that includes sacrifice.”

Yesterday at my Catholic Mass the priest was giving his homily about the health care mandate and he also tied in to the First Amendment and the Constitution. Well, a parishioner during the middle of the homily jumped up and started yelling at the priest, telling him that he was wrong, that’s not true. And the priest, he didn’t miss a step, he just kept on going –

Religious Exemption Stalls in Senate
An amendment providing a religious exemption to the Obama administration’s contraception mandate was prevented from coming to a vote in the U.S. Senate on Feb. 15.
“This is supposed to be a body where we have open discussion, where any member can offer any amendment to any bill at any time,” said Sen. Dan Coats, R-Ind.
He criticized the Senate’s majority leader, Harry Reid, D-Nev., for shutting off the opportunity to introduce new amendments to a bill that was under discussion in the Senate.

Birth Control Debate: Why Catholic Bishops Have Lost Their Grip on US Politics and Their Flock

There is a couple of inaccurate statistics in the article. The ‘98% of Catholics use contraception’ myth has been debunked by the Washington post. Catholic Charities have not endorsed Obama’s accommodation.’ Can somebody please post this on the article, I tried but my login is not working. The article confirms what Rush Limbaugh said above.

The article lists a great many prominent women opposed to the mandate. Perhaps Senator Boxer would like to invite them all to testify.

Yes, because the whole gender thing is the biggest joke going. When you see the words “birth control” notice the 2nd word: control. Many women are on birth control at the prompting of their husbands who don’t want to provide for children. Others are on birth control because their boyfriends want sex without complications and insist on birth control.

When a man tells you what you can do with your body, then you know you have no rights. If there is a women’s rights issue in all this, it’s 100% right there.

Democrats are hoping this will go away… that is not going to happen. There will be no compromise, no accommodation, religious liberty for all! Until Democrats get that - this issue will not go away.

RUSH: The liberal is a liberal first, and he’s a Catholic second.
Not much of a fan of Rush, but if this report is true, the guy walked out of Mass over the debate? No better way to give credence to the above statement.
CALLER: **Well, mandatory contraception fits into the environmental religion **and –
RUSH: I know. It fits the bill. It completes the circle that man’s the problem, that humanity is the biggest problem the planet has. And, of course, the overpopulation crowd is still alive and well in the Democrat Party and that’s part and parcel of this as well. Appreciate the call, Karen.
I’ve posted these same thoughts and it is entirely Anti-Christ. The Lord is the Creator and Giver of Life. The radical environmentalists would rather not see so much trash be deposited in the dumps, (made by too many people, you know) so let’s kill life in the womb or simply prevent it from happening to solve the problem.
