**Feminists Tout Obamacare for Providing ‘Near Universal Access to Family Planning’ and 'Contraception’ **
Feminists and “reproductive rights” activists lauded the Affordable Care Act (“Obamacare”) for “advancing women” and providing “near universal access” to family planning products and services, including contraception.

Cardinal Dolan says HHS mandate fight ‘tough’ but winnable
Cardinal Timothy M. Dolan of New York says that although opponents of the federal contraception mandate face a difficult struggle, religious groups can achieve victory through persistence.
“We have to be very vigorous in insisting that this is not about contraception. It’s about religious freedom,” said the cardinal, who is president of the U.S. bishops’ conference.
He said the debate is a “tough battle” because proponents of the coverage mandate have chosen an issue they know the Catholic Church is “not very popular on.”
The cardinal made his remarks in an interview with television talk show host Bill O’Reilly, which was excerpted on the Fox News show The O’Reilly Factor on March 28 and broadcast on the March 29 edition of “Conversations with Cardinal Dolan” on SiriusXM’s Catholic Channel.

When the administration fails on one front, it rallies its troops to attack on another. What is upsetting to me is that the government’s spokespeople and supporters attempt to paint Catholicism as a reactionary, ignorant, bigoted faith. It’s suddenly fashionable to label oneself as “atheist” or “secular” because that jives with being “multicultural” and “inclusionary”. Clinton and her State Department insulted Poland by expressing concern (and warning that aid was contingent on this) that priests in public schools were not pro-LBGT and were preaching intolerance. The same was done with our Orthodox friends in Serbia. My question is this: when did political correctness and moral relativism become American values that we expect other nations to follow? The beauty of Catholicism, though, is that it prompts an internal dialogue and forces one to reconcile faith with other personal views. That is part of one’s true development.
I think that many of the problems that Americans have with Catholicism stem from their confusion over what Catholicsm really is. Many confuse our tenets with those of fundamentalist Protestants and wrongly ascribe beliefs of the dispensationalists, apocalyptic millenarians etc. to us.

I really appreciate these links posted by Abyssinia. They provide valuable informatin, especially this one . The way that most of the media covers the issue, one would get the impression that the administration is successfully characterizing the opposition to the HHS mandate as a war on women. But that is wrong. Catholics have been joined by numerous others in opposing this issue.

Unfortunately, government intrusion will only get worse in the U.S. as time goes on. We can now foresee a time, not so far off, when the Church or its practices will be outlawed. The more socialist the U.S. becomes, the more at odds the federal government postures against the Church and religion. History repeats itself. Future generations will face untold challenges regarding religious liberty. The great U.S. era seems to be coming to a close. All the more reason we should excercise our right to be active in the Church. And support the Church. The federal government is going to let us down. No question about that. So we need the Church more than ever. And the Church needs our solidarity. We sure need a leader like John Paul II in this country.

When the Archbishop Met the President"I said, ‘Mr. President, I appreciate the call. Are you saying now that we have until August to introduce to you continual concerns that might trigger a substantive mitigation in these mandates?’ He said, ‘No, the mandates remain. We’re more or less giving you this time to find out how you’re going to be able to comply.’ I said, ‘Well, sir, we don’t need the [extra time]. I can tell you now we’re unable to comply.’"

Xavier Ends Birth Control Coverage
Amid the debate over whether religious colleges should be covered by federal requirements that employee health plans include contraception, many have noted that some Roman Catholic colleges have for years had health plans that paid for birth control.
One of them – Xavier University in Ohio – this week told employees that they were losing birth control coverage.
The Rev. Michael J. Graham, president of the university, wrote to employees, saying that the national debate prompted him to review the university’s policies. He noted that President Obama has proposed a compromise on the issue, under which religious colleges would not have to pay for contraception coverage, but the insurance companies would be required to provide the coverage free. In his letter, Father Graham wrote that this compromise was “insufficient.”
Father Graham wrote that “as a Catholic priest and as president of a Catholic university, I have concluded that, absent a legal mandate, it is inconsistent for a Catholic institution to cover those drugs and procedures the Church opposes.” He said that he told the human resources office to work with the university’s insurance provider to be sure that, by July 1, no coverage is provided for either contraception or sterilization, with the exception of “medical necessity for non-contraceptive purposes.”
He closed the letter by saying: “While I recognize the inconvenience and potential hardship this may cause in some circumstances, I trust you will understand why I have required that these steps be taken.”
Some alumni responded by creating a petition in which they pledged not to give to the university as long as it blocked contraception coverage for employees. “Never before has Xavier expressed concern with enabling women to access to contraception and other basic healthcare necessities. Yet, when the national political dialogue persistently tramples on a woman’s right to make her own healthcare decisions, Xavier follows suit,” says the petition. “It’s time for Xavier to live out the Jesuit mission of being men and woman for others by demonstrating that the university will not merely play politics with the lives of women.”
The university’s Facebook page features numerous posts – many of them angry, but some supportive – about the announcement. Several posts said variations of “shame” or included pledges never to donate again. Others said that this was an unfair policy at an institution where many employees are not Catholic and many employees of all faiths do not adhere (nor have they felt expected to adhere) to Catholic teachings against contraception. “I’m assuming you will be firing all employees who use birth control, since they are in violation of your stance on birth control,” wrote one commenter. “Deeply disappointed in my alma mater,” wrote another.
Among the posts praising the university was one from the mother of an alumna: “I just heard the news that XU is following the tenets of the Magisterium regarding the issue of insurance and contraceptives. Kudos to XU!!! My daughter is a '95 graduate. She received an excellent education. I wish my alma mater the University of Dayton would follow Xavier’s good example.”

Lot of anti-Catholic comments on article.

I was wondering if, and hoping that, something like this might occur.
It is good Xavier have changed their policy, but it shouldn’t of taken the HHS mandate problem for them to change, the university should of never been offering birth control and sterilization in their health insurance in the first place, no Catholic university should.

We could spend eternity saying what people should have done. Give them credit for revisiting their policy and perhaps others may follow.

Prodigal son returning, heaven rejoicing at a repetent sinner, and all that jazz.

Agreed.

Bill O’Brien of CT Right for Life explains the nature of the HHS mandate for contraception. He discusses with hostess Corinn Dahm how it violates the First Amendment rights of Catholics, how the Obama ‘compromise’ is no compromise at all and is effectively not even a change from the original, offensive mandate. They cover the many political forces pushing for contraception (pharmaceuticals, abortion providers, hedonists, population control advocates) the effects of contraception on health and families and on women. They ask why is contraception being offered for free when life saving medication and procedures are not free, but require a co-pay? Why artificial birth-control is offered completely free and natural family planning is not funded at all.
