Archbishop of New York writes to Obama to withdraw opposition to Defense of Marriage Act

Well, the archbishop is completely correct, but if I were him, I wouldn’t be holding my breath when it comes to Obama.

Obama has already instructed his Minister for State Security, Eric Holder, to stop enforcing the law on DOMA, and as we know just a day or so ago, he lifted the ban on sexual perversion in the armed forces, so I suppose we’ll probably be seeing the Pink Berets headed off into combat soon.

We cannot, repeat, cannot, get rid of this albatross from Chicago soon enough.

Boy, you got THAT right! He is a DISASTER! Even the Dems want him gone, probably not for the same reasons. Wouldn’t be surprised to hear them clamoring for Hillary soon.

That being said, it is indeed refreshing to see Bishops speak out in defense of marriage. Not all of them do. The war is not just with secular society but within the Catholic Church as well. Some of them want to “change the conversation” about LGBT issues within the Church…as if the Church is a “Democracy”. :rolleyes:

How is marriage threatened? Are the vows we made now nullified? Are Catholics forbidden from getting married? 🤷
 
This is coming to a head. For those who don’t see how huge this is, I think the Archbishop summed it up when he reveals that what this Administration is pursuing will

“precipitate a national conflict between Church and State of enormous proportions and to the detriment of both institutions.”

I would like to read a Croatian commentary on all of this.

Yes! Yesterday I searched MSM and found nothing. I was curious how the NYTimes would spin it, but couldn’t find anything and that led me to search around. Found nothing. Interesting, huh? Definitely Catholics need to be getting their news from Catholic sources.

Sometime recently (within the last couple of months) I, also, was searching on NYT because something fairly prominent about Catholicism was in the news. Like you, I was curious to see how NYT would frame it. When I searched their Religioni and Belief section (going back several months), here’s what I found:

(1) Lots of articles on Muslims (#1 in frequency)
(2) A significant number on Jewish issues (makes sense, given prominent Jewish population in NY)
(3) Lots of articles on Catholic clergy sexual abuse (nothing else on Catholicism)
(4) Examples of extreme (controversial) Protestant evangelical movements/news stories

ROUGH TRANSLATION:
Muslim = good person
Jew = good person
Protestant = bad person
Catholic = pervert & criminal

It’s more of a threat to children than marriage itself.

When homosexual unions are viewed with the moral equality of marriage, with all the equal rights, the next step is that gay couples who are married, can not be discriminated against when it comes to adopting children.

Here in Massachusetts, the first state to make homosexual marriage legal, via a court decision, the state sued religious adoption agencies such as Catholic Charities, for not accepting adoption request from married gay couples. Catholic Charities had no other choice but to shut down it’s adoption agency.

Now, a child who is up for adoption, could be placed with either a gay couple or a heterosexual couple.

We still don’t know what consequences a child raised by gay couples might experience, the data is still too young. But if it’s bad, what do we do about the child who suffered the consequences of such social engineering and is now an adult ?

In** defense** of marriage the way God intended, and the way the Church, as guided by the Holy Spirit has echoed. Marriage is indeed threatened when it becomes watered down and distorted by anyone of any gender and soon how ever many are able to “marry”. Changes the entire meaning and definition of “marriage”, which began (and should continue) to be a sacrament between ONE MAN AND ONE WOMAN. Gay “marriage” not only threatens Catholic Christians but also society as a whole.

I wonder when will it be that liberals might decide that God indeed knew what he was doing when he put forth guidelines through His Church? It wasn’t for HIS benefit but for OURS.
