I knew Obama and his administration were completely without conscious regarding abortion but they now want to stop Catholic and other faith based charities from providing needed services if they will not include abortion :

The long line of evidence is disturbing. As a first step, the administration reversed earlier regulations enforcing federal conscience laws, stating instead that it would pursue the same goals by educational outreach on rights of conscience.

In the final healthcare bill passed in March 2010, traditional protections for conscience rights were omitted; instead, a provision was included that would subjugate conscience rights to federal and state “emergency” service laws. In other words, any abortion declared an “emergency” (broadly defined) by a government requires a health-care provider’s full cooperation, regardless of his or her views on the matter.

Moreover, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has issued a rule which will require almost all health plans to include coverage for sterilization and contraception — including abortifacient drugs. This will force almost all employers — including Catholic organizations — to pay for such procedures, regardless of any moral objections. HHS seemingly wants to regard fertility as a disease — and elective abortion subsidized by the taxpayer as healthcare.

The most recent frontal assault on conscience rights has come in the form of federal contracts and grant announcements, which have begun to require grantees to help provide all legally permissible family planning and obstetric/gynecological services, regardless of the provider. A large number of grants under the State Department’s AIDS program, for example, now require “integration” with family planning and “reproductive health” services, ignoring the conscience clause the program’s authorizing statute passed by Congress…"

I cannot fathom the depth of this man’s evil doing in order to pander to the pro abort constituancy. Does he truly look at his daughters and not realize that millions of little girls just like them never had a chance for life due to our political support of abortion?

2013 cannot come soon enough for me

Did anybody ever actually expect that Obama would be anything but pro-abortion full bore?

What? Are you looking forward to his re-election?

What alternative do we have? Mitt ‘flippity-floppity-floo’ Romney, Newt ‘freshly back from obscurity’ Gingrich, and some other guy? 😦

Do you honestly think he has the ability to think that deeply?

Well I never did. Anyone who could vote against the Babies Born Alive provision has an intrinsic evil. When he said that allowing born babies to be set aside to die was “between a woman and her doctor” I realized that he has made political pandering his personal god.

However if we are to believe many including those at Notre Dame who invited him (horrors!) and the supposed pro life Democrats that swallowed his bunk about not allowing abortion to be paid with tax money, he fooled some.

I can’t figure it out because he sure didn’t fool me.

Hi, not sure this has anything to do with the thread and I think your ad hominum comments are not very helpful. That being said, I would quite honestly vote for a potted plant over Obama and I think I have millions of fellow Catholics who have the same opinion. Obama, Sebelius and the rest of that crew make Nancy Pelosi look like a saint with respect to life issues. They must be removed.

How often are we seeing in the mainstream news about the clamping down on Catholics (and other pro life people) and our many charitable endeavors because we won’t support abortion? We need to keep this front and center. Agree with us or not, religious freedom is a foundation of this country and we are seeing it eroded every day this man is in office.

Good comment!

Why 2013?

I thought your election was in 2012?

What do you have against potted plants? Potted plants can be quite lovely; a great source of emotional comfort (especially during the winter). Plus, potted plants will at the very least do no harm (oh wait … I see what you did there!).

Actually, my comments are entirely relevant: I was voicing my discontent, that the stable of candidates the GOP is working with are horrible. They’re going to lose against a severely-crippled Obama, simply by default. It sucks, but its true.
People who want to haul out the big-guns and drop the Latin terms for logical fallacies should be properly trained in their definitions. Any candidate who makes a regulatory and licensing committee for this purpose would get my vote, instantly, because this is a huge problem.

What I said was insulting, but this is not an ad hominem. An ad hominem is not an insult.

An ad hominem is the fallacy of trying to use something from someone’s personal background in support of a conclusion. Thank you, come again.

Gladly. Ad Hominem is a way of trying to substantiate your argument by making negative comments about the person…calling Romney “flipity flop” and Newt Gingrich “back from obscurity” were personal attacks on the men and had nothing to do with your argument.

I’m sorry you are so negative about the prospects of a Repubican victory. I think the group of candidates is outstanding and provides far clearer choices than in recent memory. At any rate, any of them would be an improvement over Obama.

I wasn’t inviting you to try to rationalize your misuse of this highfalutin term, Lisa.

I was pointing out that my original statement had no argument (i.e., it was an expression of frustration), and therefore could not even harbor a fallacy in the first place.

You’d be surprised that I agree with you concerning our current President. Unfortunately, none of the current Republican candidates seem to be strong enough to oppose the incumbent. You might feel hurt when I express my frustration with them, but it is only because I want a strong opponent to BHO.

Well I am in some disagreement because I think the field is much stronger than in past yaers. At least we have some time and multiple opportunities to look over the candidates. The weak have or will be weeded out and I think we have an excellent chance to beat him. BHO will be a formidable opponent as he has certain elements tied up. I do have faith in the American people though. As the Who said ‘won’t get fooled again.’

At any rate do not want to hijack the thread. I continue to be horrified by Obama’s blatant support of abortionists despite his claims to the contrary. I hope that he understands the power of the Catholic voting bloc which although not unified, is becoming more and more disenchanted with him due to his anti-life stance among other things.

Lisa A

But expecting the president to honor his pledge would be expecting him to practice honesty which might be forcing our Catholic religion on him. Or forcing the natural law.

Shame on all of you who say it’s immoral to lie! 😃

Ron Paul is third place. He’s pro-life.

All of the Republican candidates are pro life. You don’t get much more pro life than Rick Santorum or Michele Bachmann! I don’t think this is an issue if a Republican is elected thank heavens!

We just need to prevent another four years of pro-abort Democrats in Washington DC. The long term ramifications are frightening; another Ginsberg, Kagen or Sotomayer and the Supremes will be a sure shot for abortion rights. The Dems have sold out completely to the abortion/feminist lobby. The pro life Democrat has since become extinct.

I’d give my eye-teeth to have America’s only honest politician elected. Sadly, I don’t think there are enough people who agree with me for that to work. …although it would be an awfully dramatic show-down to see RP face off against Obama. You’ll notice that Obama has adopted all of the straight-shooting, folksy mannerisms that make RP so unique. 'cept RP is actually genuine, of course.

Worse than an over-the-top Democrat abortion-machine would be a Republican who marginalizes the social conservative wing of the GOP and quietly sweeps these issues aside. With the radical abortion-rights character, people will be pressed to react. If a GOP candidate arrives who doesn’t value turning the tide against abortionism, there is a chance that the anti-abortion movement will sink quietly to the background of national politics–forever.

Looking through the top candidates, I can see at least a few that would probably love to do that. Mitt Romney is the first that comes to mind–his take on abortion is decidedly cuius regio, eius religio. Gingrich is another.

I thought Obama himself made it abundantly clear before November 2008 that he would be the most pro-abortion president in US history. What’s happening now in this administration regarding abortion is no surprise. Fr. Newman was right.

Seems to me that either of the alternatives mentioned above is far preferable to Mr. Obama.
