Still not clear?
the task force may decide future action.

however, is it okay for Biden to receive in DC but not SC? what if both bishops stick to their version of pastoral care? is this how it is supposed to work?

clear
If he has no jurisdiction over Biden’s diocese, then it is not an issue.
the issue of the thread is AB Gregory statement and not B Maloony
how could I possibly say that I have the right to question a man whose soul has the indelible mark of the Sacrament of Holy Orders on it?
you may not, but others’ life experiences have given them the right.
Neither you nor I have the right to question the legitimate decision of a diocesan bishop,
that is incorrect, the decisions of bishops to cover for the wrongs of priests were wrong.

but as a 17 year old layman with no formal theological training, how could I possibly say that I have the right to question a man whose soul has the indelible mark of the Sacrament of Holy Orders on it? I am a humble layperson; Neither you nor I have the right to question the legitimate decision of a diocesan bishop
Well. you may be 17 years old but you demonstrate a very great wisdom.

Because the person we are speaking about, namely His Eminence, The Cardinal, has been a bishop for just shy of 40 years…an archbishop for more than 16 years. He holds a doctorate from the International Benedictine University in Rome – one of few Americans of the episcopate to hold that distinction – he is a former president of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops. The breadth and depth and extent of his knowledge, his experience and his pastoral acumen is really quite extraordinary.

He is really not a person who needs to take advice…least of all from persons who are not his peers either as a Cardinal or an academic…but he is, in fact, an excellent person to give very sound and thoughtful advice. He is one of the most impressive men in the College of Cardinals presently…certainly in my estimation.

However, as you are not Clergy, I am not Clergy, we don’t know what the Clergy is concerned about when they counsel him. We do not know if the situation is not addressed biblically. All we can do is either pontificate on that of which we are not fully informed, or pray for our new Catholic President.

Thank you, Fr @Don_Ruggero. I have unfortunately taken a similar attitude to @upant before, and I have regretted it, because I realised how ridiculous of me it was to challenge priests, bishops, and cardinals, who have been through years of formation in the seminary and have years, and often decades of pastoral experience.

I have read many of your posts, @Don_Ruggero, and I truly admire your balanced, thoughtful, and clear approach. The closing of this forum may be for the best but it is certainly the end of an era. I wish you good luck, father.

Correct, but there is no evidence that any of these bishops or cardinals are disobeying God’s law. And, do you think that the Lord will give us bishops who mislead us in such a way? Of course not! Trust in the bishops, trust in the pope. But I think it is wrong to use the statements of a bishop who has no jurisdiction in a particular diocese to override the legitimate decision of the bishop of said diocese.
