I can see your point, francesco,
but these days, in the current situation in the Church,
nothing, and I DO mean NOTHING, would surprise me.
I must admit that this is true, unfortunately. However, I would not go as far as the article.
After all, Benedict knows about the bad bishops, and has
the authority to remove them instantly with the mere stroke of a pen, and so far has done absolutely nothing about these men. You make a good point. I wonder, though, if perhaps the Pope is worried about schism…still, I would like to see him crack down a bit more. Wuerl has a long track record. And he’s only one of the bad apples. Some are much worse than him. Like Bishop Tod Brown. The way I look at it, if you KNOW about the evil, and you have the AUTHORITY to remove the evildoer, and you DON’T, then you are part of the problem. *This is a good point, but I think we should give the Holy Father some time. Perhaps he is waiting for the opportune moment to act. These men could be removed with the stroke of a pen TODAY, and replaced by righteous men TOMORROW (they ARE in the Church, you know). If only… *But the wicked are left in place. And one of the wickedest of all, Law, was given a cushy retirement job as Archpriest of the Basilica of Saint Mary Major in Rome instead of being sent to spend his retirement doing penance for shuttling pedophiles from parish to parish - KNOWINGLY - for many years. Law should definitely have been disciplined much more. In my opinion some jail time would have been appropriate. I wonder if the Vatican has a jail…
