The John Jay Report, as well as a load of anecdotal accounts seem to indicate that the victims were not necessarily pedophiles or ephebophiles–the behavior in question often didn’t fit the patterns seen in pedophiles elsewhere.I do not accept that there is any moral distinction between having sex with a child before or after puberty.
Alright, but I’m not trying to limit their culpability. Whether edo- or ephebophile, I only say that the acts were still largely homosexual.
The Church is confused between homosexuality in which one is attracted to other adults of the same sex, and attraction to children. Is there in fact a similar ban on those attracted to children? Or is it just gays?
I’m sure that if you admitted a comparable ‘deep-seated love of children’ or ‘involvement in the pedophile culture’ any given vocations director would tell you that your vocation isn’t behind a Roman collar or anything to do with the Church.
Rather, a pattern was established where a sexually-repressed, developmentally-frozen, immature person under stress ‘acted out’ on someone close to him, who was unlikely to say anything.
