Are formfitting shirts appropriate?

I disagree profoundly that it is “cultural conditioning” that is the primary factor putting suggestions into men’s minds, or making men sexually attracted to women.
Nobody here is arguing that men are sexually attracted to women because of cultural conditioning. The claim is that what constitutes immodest dress is heavily dependent on the context. There are societies in which women walk around bare-chested all the time and are not considered immodest, and there are those in which women are considered immodest if you can see anything but their eyes.

You missed my point: both are strongly biological. No more can you control the content of your sexual desires from being about women to being about men, then you can make lustful suggestions not come into your mind when exposed to a stimuli that you are sexually attracted to.

There is a strong component from nature alone to both what you are sexually attracted to and how you respond to it. So strong that it can put hundreds of suggestions into the minds of many young men (aged 18-24) in a month, and even until age 40, that was my point. Please read points (3) and (4) in my previous post demonstrating my points.

How about we stick to Western society only? I’ve noticed how some will go to great lengths to find exceptions to what’s reasonable and applicable to the majority culture.

North and South America and Europe.
There are probably native tribes in South America that meet my description. There are and historically have been varying standards of modesty throughout the three continents you’ve named.

Second point: we do not use native tribes standards of modesty, we use Catholic standards of modesty: what will lead to lustful suggestions popping unwanted into men’s minds.

What will lead to lustful suggestions depends on the climate in which a person was brought up.
What about the native cultures that adopted Catholicism?
Apparently they’re immodest savages.

There are nuns in Africa who dress appropriately. No native tribal dress for them.

Not all R-rated movies are dangers to purity. Pulp Fiction is hideously violent and is an endless torrent of foul language, but there is virtually no nudity (a brief shot of Bruce Willis in the shower, from the rear), one suggested scene of heterosexual intimacy that shows nothing, and a fleeting image of a male rape. Anyone who would be “turned on” by the latter has far more serious issues than just purity.

The foul language aside, parts of the Old Testament depict and discuss equally disturbing stories.

The old Old Testament nonsense again. Fiction is not to be compared to Scripture which was written for our benefit, including the disturbing parts.

Read my above point. I have said many times to not go down the rabbit hole of lust:

throw off lustful suggestions immediately, not two seconds later, not two minutes later, immediately.

However, my point was about avoiding the suggestions, the thoughts that come in unwanted in the first place (that are not sins, only if you fail to throw them off are they sins)! Please read the Catechism of the Council of Trent on modesty and custody of the eyes. It still applies today, accounting for changing circumstances. As I have said many times, a bare minimum is: no yoga pants/ cleavage.

The “definition dodge.” Strip club. Is that clear? They are sinful. Period.

I said rated R because most films are rated R because of nudity. However, true, read why it is rated R. To be rated R for violence alone requires a lot of violence. But violence in movies is an off topic conversation. Some horror movies are indeed immoral.

You say:
“What will lead to lustful suggestions is influenced by culture.”

True, if you live in a society that you never see a woman’s ankles, then there are things that lead to lust that would not in our culture.

However, there are certain stimuli that universally put lustful suggestions into men’s brains. Read my points (3) and (4) above, where I cite studies, you have not responded to the substance of my arguments.

It depends on context. Doesn’t it? You shouldn’t wear a tube top to church, or graduation, or a funeral, or a job interview (depending on the job, I suppose).

But if you’re at a vacation resort, or a beach, or an amusement park, or Walmart, why not?

We live in a world with other people, and a big part of living in this world is having an ability to get along and go along and somehow together make it work.

We’re talking about women throughout this thread. I suppose form fitting shirts on men aren’t in question. Which is a good thing, because I find myself wearing them more and more often. Maybe not exactly “form fitting,” aside from gym shirts, but along the lines of slim cut, slender cut, muscle cut (that’s a new one for me). I don’t wear loose, blousey shirts anymore. With my long legs, my wife says I look like “Gru,” if I’m not careful. (Please Note: This uploaded content is no longer available.)
