I would also like the answers to these questions. Could we have the Jewish view of these events please? Thank you in advance.
You have provided some excellent links, but dialogue is helpful, which is why I posted here. So Catholics can understand the Jewish perspective, I’m sure there are many, as there are different Jewish traditions, just as there are different Christian traditions.
I find some of your posts needlessly defensive and haughty. It would have been very easy for you to say, “We don’t see Jesus as a prophet, but no, there haven’t or yes there have.” The original poster of this post used Jesus as a timeline reference. This is a legitimate reference, as it the basis of the Common Era, or AD as opposed to BC or BCE calendars used worldwide.Since we don’t see Jesus as any kind of prophet, that’s a rather meaningless question.
Sorry, I had a feeling I left something out. Thanks for the correction.Messiah is the anglicized form of Mashiach, which is actually Hebrew for “anointed one”. It refers to someone who has been anointed with oil by a prophet, as Kings David, Solomon and Saul were.
The Hebrew word for king is melekh.
Well, were there or were there not?We do not believe there have been any further prophets other than those mentioned in the TaNaKh. ALthough there were prophets that were not mentioned (prior to the time of Jesus)
I’m sorry I was asking you the same question that the other poster asked you in a different way I didn’t know some one else have answer it for you. Why was so hard for you to give us an answer? If you follow the link in Ed Rand’s post (#57) you’ll find the answers you seek.
Welcome back, Valke2!We do not believe there have been any further prophets other than those mentioned in the TaNaKh. ALthough there were prophets that were not mentioned (prior to the time of Jesus)
Now you do.So, Kaninchen, please do not take our questions as an attack or presumptious. We simply want to know.
Oh dear.I find some of your posts needlessly defensive and haughty.

The purpose of this thread is for us to learn from the Jewish point of view. We are obviously looking at Judaism and the events at the time of Jesus through Christian lenses. And phrase our questions in Christian terms, because we do not know the Jewish terms. So, Kaninchen, please do not take our questions as an attack or presumptious. We simply want to know.

You may not have noticed that, in an early response to you, I said that I thought myself a ‘poster who happens to be Jewish’ rather than a ‘Jewish poster’ and asked whether you might understand what I meant.Your responses indicate to me that either
ONE Jew’s POV is haughty defensiveness
or
You are not interested in dialoguing, which begs the question of why you are here
Unless it is a combination
There were no prophets that arose after Malalchi. When I said there were prophets that were not mentioned in the texts, I was referring to prophets preceeding this time period. Jewish tradition holds that only prophets who’s words were applicable to future generations, as opposed to their generation only, had their words recorded. As for the Kings 13 reference, if I recall that prophet was really more of a cheap “will my cows survive the winter” type prophet.Well, were there or were there not?
If the answer is yes, what were their names?
((in the case they were identified, of course! Because I remember that in 1 Kings 13 (the whole chapter), a man of God from Judea (who went to curse an altar in Samaria, I think) and a local prophet in Samaria, both of them unidentified, and I think that neither is mentioned in the list since they are not identified–unless I am mistaken))
What do you mean by that? “A cheap ‘will my cows survive this winter’ type prophet”?As for the Kings 13 reference, if I recall that prophet was really more of a cheap “will my cows survive the winter” type prophet.
i am curious to know more about judaism. so i asked the question. We do not believe there have been any further prophets other than those mentioned in the TaNaKh. ALthough there were prophets that were not mentioned (prior to the time of Jesus)
One could ask Christians the same question.i am curious to know more about judaism. so i asked the question.
why Israel has not had any other prophet after AD? do you know anything about it?
i do not understand why my question put you guys in a defensive mood. One could ask Christians the same question.
