Perhaps more importantly, what does the english word miracle actually mean?

Ancient doctors and fathers understood them as “wonders
FROM FATHER HARDON’S CATHOLIC DICTIONARY

MIRACLE. A sensibly perceptible effect, surpassing at least the powers of visible nature, produced by God to witness to some truth or testify to someone’s sanctity. (Etym. Latin miraculum, miracle, marvel; from mirari, to wonder.) END QUOTES

Indeed, thats a good definition of the modern english word.
Do note it means transubstantiation is not strictly a miracle.

The question is what do older non english texts mean by the word which we translate as miracle.

I believe you will find that before scholasticism and the rise of science they actuall meant something different…better translated as “wonder” or even “mystery”.

After medieval times the meaning slowly changed from wonder to miracle. Often its hard to tell which is meant.
