I heard a good homily on the book of revelations one time. It was not filled with much knowledge on Revelations but it was loaded with wisdom on the subject.
A priest was on a bus wearing his collar. A baptist minister, recognizing the collar, decided to sit down next to him and put him to the test. The minister asked, “If you absolutely knew that the end of time was coming in thirty days, what would you do?” The priest replied, “I would continue preaching to Christ’s flock that they love and obey God. I would continue giving the sacraments. I would continue visiting the sick, aged and imprisioned. I would continue doing all the things I have done since the day of my ordination.” The Baptist minister stood up to leave and said, “You Catholics Just Don’t Get It!”
When I see someone spending months and years studying, contemplating and preaching on who the “beast” is or what the “mark of the Beast” is which is on hell goers foreheads and right hand, yet they fail to get out and feed the poor, care for the sick, visit the abandoned and focus on obeying God’s commandments, what progress have they made?

“Therefore, take these words of mine into your heart and soul. Bind them at your wrist as a sign, and let them be a pendant on your forehead. Teach them to your children, speaking of them at home and abroad, whether you are busy or at rest. And write them on the doorposts or your houses and on your gates, **so that, as long as the heavens are above the earth, you and your children may live on in the land which the LORD swore to your fathers he would give them.” ****“For if you are careful to observe all these commandments I enjoin on you, loving the LORD, your God, and following his ways exactly, and holding fast to him,…” **

A third angel followed the others and said in a loud voice: “If anyone worships the beast or its image, or** accepts its mark on his forehead or hand**, he too will drink the wine of God’s wrath, poured full strength into the cup of his anger. He will be tormented in burning sulphur before the Lamb, and the smoke of their torment shall rise forever and ever. There shall be no relief day or night for those who worship the beast or its image or accept the mark of its name.” This is what sustains the holy ones, who keep the commandments of God and their faith in Jesus. I heard a voice from heaven say to me: “write this down: Happy now are the dead who die in the Lord!” The Spirit added, "Yes, they shall find rest from their labors, for their good works accompany them."

YES… this is very good wisdom! it doesn’t really matter what revelation means, and it woudn’t be good to worry your self about such things since it has nothing to do with doing the lords work. But its intresting, its a puzzle, and since it has a meaning and was given to us so that we might understand it and find meaning in it, people by thier enquiring nature wish to know it, since knowing something gives a feeling of security or being sure. For some knowledge is power.
Some people cant stand going day to day not knowing. If there is something to know about revelation other then its obvious symbolic meaning, (i.e. God will conquer evil and keep it conquered for all eternity) i wish to know it, for two reasons.
The first reason is, i just want to know, because i want to know everything that i consider worthy of knowing or do not know.
Secondly. People who challenge the faith, just like that guy who challenged the preist, use the symbolic references from revelation that make it “seem” like the catholic church is a whore “or” is a false Christianity.
Any Church that isnt Catholic or isnt in league with the faith, have to explain why they exist. The only way they can do this, is to throw dirt on the Catholic faith, other wise there church will look bad if it turns out that the Catholic church is the true Church of christ.
Now, its all good for me and the preist and everybody that thinks that are church is the true church, but its not Good for those who are enslaved within the lie. I have “faith” that the Church is “not” the whore of babaylon, Buts thats it, I have “faith”.
I have read many arguments against the lie, But when it comes to revelation, hardly any of the aguments satifys me, in the sense that i could say to a fallen brother by auguement alone, that the catholic church is the true church and is not the church described in revelations as being the whore of babylon. At some point he would need to take a “leap of faith” that he would find hard to take with out a reasonable anwser.
This is why i wish to understand the meaning of revelations, so that i can be a better apolegetic. The same when it comes to science and faith, im not intrested in wether or not evolution is true or not. Im intrested in what im supposed to say to somebody who is kept away from the faith because he cant find a way of putting the bible and science together in to one message that sounds resonable when sombody listens to it.
If the baptist had asked a more direct qeustion like what would you do if you knew that the end of the world was coming knowing that your Church “seems” to be the whore of babylon. The preist could not just say what he had said to begin with. Not only would he have to defend his faith but he would also have to try and save the baptist from his ignorance by rebuking the lie politely and giving a reasonable anwser to his qeustions.
i feel its my moral duty to understand so i can make others understand. But what i cant stand is given people who have been blindfolded by the world a weak testomie due to my lack of understanding. No disrespect to you, but do you know what i mean?

I would look into the Catholic Scripture Study on the Book of Revalation. Scott Hahn is one of the contributors. I like this series because it includes the CCC along with all of the usual historical and linguistic material. It’s a 20 week study so you should have a good idea of Catholic teaching about that book by the time you are done.

I think that ol’ Walt’s talking about the covenant promises that are found scattered throughout Rev, including here in the letters to the 7 churches. If we persevere in this life, through persecution and the world’s evil, then we will inherit the covenant blessings that God has promised. These include all the things Walt mentioned. So the covenant is one of the MAJOR keys for unlocking the complexity of the book. Heck, even the number “seven” itself conveys covenantal thoughts and imagery. Our favorite expert (S. Hahn) has some great things to say about this. So if you go through Rev and count the sevens, realize that each time John mentions them he’s referencing covenants, oaths, and sacraments. It really helps to map out the book.

We,being ,the wife and two kids and a dog, pup tenting down the panhandle of Alaska .I asked the** lord **what the number 27072 meant I could not get It out of my head.
This started a process, that I wished I cept my mouth shut.I prayed asking to either tell me, or take this away.Sounds like a raving fool do’snt it.Well The wife thought that I was going nuts,any way, to make a long story short ,being frustrated, as I was, a little girl came up to me and said that that looks like my fathers germatria ,I looked it up and need less to say the numbers explained them self .I was beside my self.Then the story starts.
I won’t bore you with the details,as it turned out I have the worst sleeping habit’s on this planet.
