If I were a fundamentalist I would say yes UNTIL you said you were Catholic. Then suddenly the answer would be “no”. They cannot accept that a Catholic can be saved if they remain a Catholic.

Actually, most acknowledge “oh, we know that the Lord has some children in the Catholic Church who are saved.” They then ask you wouldn’t you rather go to a bible believing church, since the Catholics have added books to the Bible, worship Mary AND the pope, etc.
 
I used to put this on a business card and hand it to them (I got it from an apologetics source that I can no longer remember) …

On the front of the card …

Hope for Salvation … Not Assurance of Salvation:

Mt 7:21 - not everyone saying “Lord, Lord” will inherit
Heb 10:26 - if sin after receiving truth, judgement remains
1 Cor 9:27 - buffet body, make it a slave for fear of being rejected
Rom 2:26 - will award to every man what his acts have deserved
Rom 11:22 - importance of continuing in God’s grace
Mt 24:13 - those who persevere to the end will be saved
Phil 2:12 - work to earn your salvation in anxious fear
1 Cor 10:11-12 - those thinking they are secure may fall
Gal 5:4 - separated from Christ, you’ve fallen from grace
2 Tim 2:11-13 - must hold out to end to reign with Christ
Heb 6:4-6 - describes sharers in Holy Spirit who then fall away
2 Cor 5:10 - we reap what we earn according to our deeds
Rom 5:2, 8:24 - confident in the hope of attaining glory of God**

Malachi is using “Catholic” in its specific sense, as the name of a particular, world-wide Church. There is no “universal” (lower case) church (singular). This is a figment of the Protestant imagination (a case of Catholic envy), as is the “invisible church.”

As to being born again, I say, “Yes; because of what Jesus was able to do for me through the Holy Spirit at my Baptism, I am born into the personal family of God.”:dancing:

As to being saved, I generally say, “No, because I’m not dead yet; after all, when I’m asking to be save, I’m asking to be saved from Hell, and I can’t go there until I die.”

When I get the “deer in the headlights” response, I just smile and say, “Don’t worry - when you grow up and see that the Catholic Church has been right all along, you’ll believe it, too.” 😃
 
I’ve always admired Karl K’s answer to that one:

I am a Catholic Christian, and I have been redeemed. Like the Apostle Paul, I am working out my salvation in fear and trembling, with hopeful confidence, but without false assurances. And I do this as the Church has taught, unchanged, since the time of Christ.

I would never say i’m saved" simply because I’m a sinner and can fall so easily.
We still have freewill to accept or reject Christ, and we do fall into sin.
But if we think we’re saved and then think we can live life as we please, then we are being greatly deceived.

Before a man is fire and water, whatever he chooses shall be given to him.
 
I think that St. Joan of Arc has the best reply to this question. I tried to find the exact quote but couldn’t so with your patience and understanding I offer this paraphrase:

If I am, I pray the Lord keep me there. If I am not, I pray the Lord take me there.
 
Of course I have been saved, am being saved, and hope to be saved, I’m Catholic.😃

I have been redeemed and saved by God’s grace through faith (cf. Eph 2:8), I am being saved and am working out my salvation with fear and trembling (cf. Phil. 2:13; 1 Peter 1:8-9), my salvation is nearer now than it was yesterday (cf. Rom. 13:11), and trusting solely in God’s grace, I pray that I will be saved (cf. 1 Cor. 3:15) by remaining in the state of grace and friendship with Him until the end of my life (cf. Matt. 24:13; Rom. 11:22).

Like many others, I’m working out my Salvation in fear and trembling. The first choice seemed closest to this reply.

This is the best answer here so far. We need to make it a daily event. I don’t believe that once saved always saved. I am sure of God’s mercy, but we need to live the life Jesus would want us to on a daily basis.
 
Yes, I am saved by virtue of my Baptism, I am being saved and I hope to be saved.

If you are Catholic and mention Baptism, be ready for the next response: Baptism in Greek is Baptizo which means immerse (not in my opinion :)) and that you cannot be baptized if you are not fully immersed.

They get stumped on the issue of the grace of the Holy Spirit being given as a gift of God at Baptism :D.
