It depends on how you want to interpret the question, I suppose. Being of a Protestant background, I know that to most people who ask that question, “saved” is synonymous with “absolutely going to Heaven.”
I believe that nothing can separate us from God’s gift of salvation, only that we can walk away from Him.

They’re really asking,

“Are you SAFE?”

(No, so watch out! heh heh)

Whoops! this is my 100th post. They should have a category for 100 posts, like double regular or something. Oh well…

If it’s a pretty girl, I answer, “no, I’m available”.
This is still my favorite answer.

I got to thinking, though, if I could do it with a straight face I wonder what a man would say if I answered him like that? 😃

OMG, what if he takes me up on it? :bigyikes:

SPOKENWORD:
Praise God Malachi, I also am a born again catholic[universal]. 😃 God Bless
Claiming to be a medical doctor (M.D.) does not make you one unless you take the school and pass the board exams. Claiming to be a German does not make you German unless the German government grants you citizenship. Claiming to be a New York City Policeman does not make you one unless the City grants you the commision. Claiming to be saved is not the same as being saved. Claiming to folow Christ is not the same as following Christ, His teachings, His commands. Claiming to be Catholic is not the same as being Catholic. Catholic (Universal) refers to the Church Jesus founded and not all the other Christians who are outside His body His Catholic Church.

Mormons are Christian, JW’s are Christian, I am a Christian and I can see you a trying to be a good Christian too. I just have chosen (finally) to be a Christian in His Church and to obey ALL His commands, not just the ones I find convienent that day. I have chosen to be in the Church He founded, not a church (i.e. sect/denomination) founded by a man or woman or myself when I could find no church that taught what I wanted to hear and believe. Many Christians are a church of one since they do not go to church and just believe they can sit at home and read the bible and go to heaven and believe whatever whim and fancey they choose. My uncle is a good example here. He is a good man just not a church going man. He is a Christian but not a Catholic.

I’m afraid I had to go with number four… even though it’s weighted a little differently then I’d like to to be.

I’d rather answer “no” without that bit at the end.

BRAVO!!

Katholikos:
Malachi is using “Catholic” in its specific sense, as the name of a particular, world-wide Church. There is no “universal” (lower case) church (singular). This is a figment of the Protestant imagination (a case of Catholic envy), as is the “invisible church.”

As smug as the Pharisees.
Not sure of your salvation, but sure of your Catholicity!

“Therefore bear fruits in keeping with repentance, and http://forums.catholic-questions.org/newreply.php?do=newreply&p=377291#_ftn1do not begin to say http://forums.catholic-questions.org/newreply.php?do=newreply&p=377291#_ftn2to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham for our father,’ for I say to you that from these stones God is able to raise up children to Abraham.%between%

Why the comparison to the Pharisees?
Here’s why, paraphrasing Luke 18:11-14

11 “The Roman Catholic stood and was praying this to himself: ‘God, I thank You that I am not like other people, especially *CATHOLIC ENVYING protestants. *
12 ‘I fast twice a week; I http://forums.catholic-questions.org/newreply.php?do=newreply&p=612131#_ftn3pay tithes of all that I get.’

13 “But the protestant, http://forums.catholic-questions.org/newreply.php?do=newreply&p=612131#_ftn4standing some distance away, was even unwilling to lift up his eyes to heaven, but http://forums.catholic-questions.org/newreply.php?do=newreply&p=612131#_ftn6was beating his breast, saying, ‘God, be merciful to me, the sinner!’

14 “I tell you, this man went to his house justified rather than the other; http://forums.catholic-questions.org/newreply.php?do=newreply&p=612131#_ftn8for everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but he who humbles himself will be exalted."

Catholic envy. Your eyes are blind, and your ears are plugged.

laaden,
This post is massively out of line and insultingly judgemental If you so heavily disagree with our church…it’s easy to fix…don’t come on this forum. Otherwise you might be happier over at www.judgemental.com or something. But Don’t come in here and insult us like that. We certainly don’t do that on your forums, so I suggest that you follow the golden rule as Our Lord laid down for us all if you intend to profess yourself a Christian.
Pax tecum,

Naughty post. I’m sure the admin will have you suspended before the day is over. And while at it, what about the envious Protestants? Don’t be judgmental; we never treat you that way (speaking for myself, I have never done that to any Protestant, even if we’re deep in disagreement.) For the record, I have never seen a Catholic say something to the effect of, “You Protestants are going to hell”. But more than once I’ve seen Protestants do that. Envy? If anything, I see the reverse: there seems to be something in Protestants that they say those things, and I think deep down it’s insecurity.

Guess he ran out of ways to refute the truth so he results to insults.

Plus: Of course I’m saved. I was on level 22 and I had to turn off my PS2! Wouldn’t want to have to start over!

In the exchange between Katholikos & Laadan, seems to me Katholikos was asking for that one. Let’s be fair about this.

Now granted…I am in the process of being saved and my every action will determine whether or not I will be saved once I pass from this world and stand to be judged…if I receive eternal life, then I have been saved…If I receive eternal damnation, then I was not saved…I hope it is the former LOL 🙂
I’m trying to understand your faith. In the section of your quote above, you say that you will be judged when you pass from this world. I know that Catholics have traditions, but John’s Gospel, 3:16-18, specifically v18, says “He who believes in Him [the Son] is not judged.” Your statement contradicts the Gospel. I don’t understand?

Some read He who believes in Him will not be condemned, which would be more consistent with the various Judgment verses in the Bible (Matthew 25:31ff, Romans 2:5-8, Revelation 22:12). Judgment will come for all; no one is exempt from it. Unless you deny Judgment as well.

Judgement verses speak to the judgement/condemnation of unbelievers. In John 3:18, “krino” is translated “judged.” John 3:18 says the believer is not judged. It is a present tense, continuous action.

A restatement of Jn 3:18 is found in Jn 5:24: Truly, Truly, I say to you, he who hears my word and believes…does not come into judgement." Krisis is translated judgement and is from krino, which is most often translated judge, judgement etc, from which the condemnation you mentioned flows.

John, and Jesus state that the believer is not judged.

You also say “…unless you deny judgement as well,” as well as what?

Surely you see that I do not deny judgement. All I am saying is that the text says that the believer is not judged.

What does that mean?

Most of us have been asked a varient of this question. Have you been saved? Are you born again? Do you know Jesus as your personal Lord and Savior? So what is your response?
Sorry, I should have answered this first.

Yes.
