Are you scared of dying?

Only by the Church’s own interpretation of same.
The mortal sins you claim to be a stretch, do not amount to a choice to seperate one from God, What would these sins be then if they are not a choice to be seperated from God.

Obviously some actions are violations of the commandments. But how about not attending Mass on a holy day of obligation (nothing about those in the commandments), masturbation, not going to confession. Those are man-made rules, not God’s laws.

What is mb but fornication. falls under the heading of thou shall not commit adultry.
Not observing holy days and the mass, falls under thou shalt have no other God before me, if one would rather do something else than gather together to worship God on His day than you have made your pursuits your god.
Not confessing well that under Jesus’s summary of the commandments thou shall love God with your whole heart. Obvisously you don’t love God if you are unwilling to be reconcilled with Him and His church.
The later statement is made with reference to the idea of not having to confess one’s sin’s.
see you later.

As I said, those things are a big stretch from the 10 commandments - and you’ve just demonstrated that better than I ever could.

Not really. Even as a Protestant, I knew that masturbation obviously involved lust (and thus had some level of sin) and consciously missing church was “forsaking the assembly,” contra St. Paul (Heb. 10:25). This is larger than the Ten Commandments, true, but if you ever read the New Testament, you’d be just as accountable.

No rather it is a bigger strecth to think that these sins are removed from the commandments.

Oh Dear, what a sad thread. The Word of God has the answer to your problem. If you have truly trusted in the Lord Jesus Christ as your Savior [1 Cor. 15:1-4; Acts 16:31] you have been sealed by the Holy Spirit [Ephesians 1:13]. Our Lord Jesus Christ paid the full penalty for your sins [Colossians 2:9-10; Hebrews 10:12] and you are complete [can’t add to this completeness] IN HIM! Rejoice in your so great salvation.

Oh, please do not be scared of dying unless you have not trusted in the death, burial, and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ for your salvation. If you have done that, you are sealed until the day of redemption (Eph 1:13 and 4:30). Read Colossians 2:10 daily “And ye are complete in him (CHRIST), which is the head of all principality and power.” and read Colossians 2:13 daily “And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses.” YOU ARE COMPLETE IN HIM AND he has forgiven you ALL trespasses (past, present, future).
Remember "if righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain’ (Gal 2:21). If going to heaven depends on your not sinning, then why did Christ have to suffer and die? If you are trying to work your way to heaven, “Christ is dead in vain.” He did it ALL for you. Rest in that and you will not be scared to die anymore. Peace and Love to you.

Nelka: If you truly believe the gospel by which you are S-A-V-E-D [1 Cor. 15:1-4] then you have been sealed by the Holy Spirit [Ephesians 1:13], you are complete IN HIM [Colossians 2:10], and you can say with Paul, “To die is gain.” [Philippians 1:21]. Then, when you do die you will be present with the Lord [2 Corinthians 5:8]. The Word of God has the answer to your problem - “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved…” [Acts 16:31]

Oh good, I’m just going to sit here and believe. Thought I may have to do something.

I am deathly afraid of dying because I am not baptised. Every day from now until Eastertide is going to be a little nerve-wracking for me! God obviously wants me to join His Holy Church and to partake of the Body of His Son, so I suppose I must trust that He’ll keep me from being hit by a truck; still, I worry. After all, the Blessed Lord said that those who wish to enter the Kingdom must be baptised by “water and the spirit”. A baptism of desire simply cannot be enough, can it?

Once holy baptism is poured over my soul I will not fear death, for I will be confirmed in the Trinity. That being consummated, there is nothing to do but trust that God will hear my prayers and respect my penance, done in love for Him and His glory.

Of course we are all sinners - here’s what I did …it’s progressive but helped me…
I continued to go to confession every time I sinned and as soon as possible. I realized what sins are repeated and worked on eliminating those recurring sins. I am constantly striving to stay in the state of grace.
Then I increased my prayers. I especially like prayers with promises. That gives me so much hope. God keeps all his promises.
For many years I have been studying biblical prophesy and see all these things coming to place right now. To be honest, I’m more scared of living these days than dying.

I never used to be scared of dying as I believe in Jesus Christ and never really did anything so bad to condemn myself to hell.

Now, for the first time I am scared of dying.

Learning that so many small things can condemn oneself to hell makes me feel it is almost impossible to avoid.

Unless I remove all information from my brain, I am surely condemned.

I never thought, after about age 10 or 11 that I would go straight to Heaven but always assumed time in purgatory. Now it seems to me that I am struggling to get there.

I am losing my way.
I am not losing my belief.

Thanks.
It isnt the dying that you should fear, because God had told Peter when Peter was upset and said,’‘Do not leave us Lord, for the night is long and we are scared.’’ ‘’ Do not fear for I am with you always, now and until the end of time.’’ Meaning we are not to fear, for if we ask God to take us home to Him and we have true yearning to be with Him, he will accept us, just the way we are. Faults and all. So all I can say is do as Christ told Peter, do not be afraid, He is with you.

Dittos with yaHalna above.
Even in the midst of revolving door confessions my sorrow and purpose of amendment were sincere. The biggest help came from a quote from St Gregory the Great that said God con-
siders our desires as equal to accomplishment of same.
At least intellectually I see my death now as taking cuts to the front of the line.

I love this post and believe its worth a bump. I agree its a constant process that works towards communion with God. Its mans struggle and has existed since Adam and Eve.

I also agree with reciting Prayers with a Promise from Christ. Be it the Divine Chaplet, Rosary, Chaplet of St Michael or whichever. All which require an investment of yourself over the time of your life. Not an easy accomplishment. And yes the Promise without a doubt is there at the end.

Its not so important that you encounter the human emotion of fear where death is concerned. Everybody has this fear initially, its human. We all have the same fears, share the same tears and die in so many years. Whats important is how you confront this and thus come to terms with it. Dying is easy, its living in God’s will that is hard. Its the life suffering for Christ as Saint Paul and Peter did thats hard. The final act of death can only be but so long.

Theres only so many times you can think this issue through, before you conclude that whatever will be God’s will, will be His will. Doesn’t take long to realize we are not the one’s desinated with the responsibility of chosing the day one will pass-on. At some point the reality strikes that we have no control over this. Whats most important is that if we follow the path of Jesus Christ, his promise is that he will be there with us. If “you” chose to be in communion with God.

I understand that coming to terms with this is different for all. I have been confronted with death very early in life through war. I don’t know why some die and some live, some are crippled etc. God’s thinking certainly is deep and cannot ever be fully comprehended. But I know many who did die who were very good people. And I know through being hit 5-times in a fire-fight, that God is right there with you. I can assure you of that because I experienced Him at that point. Why did he allow me to live?

Well, I look at it this way. So when others ask about Death, I can witness to them my own experience with sudden death. Nothing happens in Providence by coincidence. The only question really is, have you accepted Christ in your life and are you following his path. If in fact you are? Then is nothing to fear but the initial fear. And that my friends is just human. But I can assure you God will be there with you. And everyone else who walked the path I have will tell you exactly the same thing.

And with all I have experienced I still don’t know that at deaths door I could be as strong as someone like Saint Maximillian Kolbe or Father Pro of Mexico, or so many of the other martyred Saints. Thats an entirely different story for another day. Thats intentionally choosing to shed your own Blood for Jesus Christ. Sudden Death or dying through illness or whatever, all pale to those martyred. Those are the true Hero’s of Christology. There’s only so many ways a human can be killed and so many of these life stories you read before you clearly understand the magnitude of their sacrifice. I do know that anyone who willingly walks into a situation of martyrdom has 100% faith in God. Its impossible to complete this purpose otherwise.

I also can assure you that the philosophy of life and death will be contemplated in your mind in silence and verbal, many times over your period of life.

God Bless, GT… May it pass quickly for you!

Yes, but more than that I am afraid of suffering in life and my life having meant absolutely nothing. And then there is the judgment of the Lord, which I also fear. 😦

What do you mean by your life meaning absolutly nothing?

In all honesty there have been times in my life when I could have cared less whether I died tomorrow, the next hour or minute. However; “Fear of God” is the humble beginning of all wisdom. Who am I that I should boast about anything except serving our merciful, loving God with a contrite humble heart. I’m sure their are many Catholics who embrace the same sentiments as reflective in this thread.

Human weakness is sometimes at its worst when carrying a heavy Cross.
Are we not all in similar ways like the story of Job?

Below the Vatican in the underground Catacombs some paintings “murals” on the wall depict death with painted “butterflies” around tombs.

I’ve always enjoyed the symbolic meaning that early Christians depicted.
Before one can become a free soul living inside God, one must first enter through this world as a small humble worm-like caterpillar before transforming into something beautiful and pleasing to God. The huge monumental task is getting into the spiritual cocoon.

Peace
Chris

Hi Rolleyes: I pray that you are saved and having a great day in the LORD Jesus Christ, as I am. The difference between “religion” and Christianity is “doing.” When you are “doing” you are not done. When you are done you are not doing. The LORD Jesus Christ did it all! I pray that you will come to this realization soon. [Colossians 2:8-13]. Grace and Peace,
QC
