According to Catholics the first POPE Peter!
What was the almost first open preaching of PETER?
It is in Acts 4:12. "Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved. "
I heard one of the promises of rosary:
“Those who trust themselves to me through the Rosary will not perish.” WOW!
The Catholic religion teaches that those who trust MARY through the ROSARY will not perish. But The Bible proclaims…
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” -John 3:16
How to respond to this?

Show them from the catechism that we teach that Jesus is the only way.

How to respond to this?
The Rosary is Scriptural.

“Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with you.” (Luke 1:28, Luke 1:48)

“Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb, Jesus.” (Luke 1:42)

“Holy Mary, Mother of God.” (Luke 1:43)

“Pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.” (John 19: 26-27).

The Rosary is Christ centred.

We are taken through the entire Gospel from birth, ministry, death and resurrection of Jesus through

The Joyful Mysteries
The Luminous Mysteries
The Sorrowful Mysteries
The Glorious Mysteries

Also the Catholic Church teaches that salvation is ONLY through Christ.

Respond that Mary ALWAYS points the way to her son, and so it implies this. It’s like saying there’s a bus (Jesus) that will take us to the right destination (heaven). Now if there’s a road that always leads us, unfailingly, to that bus, and so we “shorthand” our speech by saying “you can trust that bus for salvation,” are you theologically incorrect? Maybe, if you’re a nitpicky imbecile.

This is like some protestants’ issue with the “Hail Holy Queen” and it’s line “our life, our sweetness, and our hope.” Except that the Christian life IS the life of Mary, of total obedience and following her son to the end. She IS our sweetness because she is the spiritual mother of us all. She IS our hope because we aspire to her example as the example par excellence of a created follower of Jesus, as partaker in His divine ministry and a *vessel *of holines, NOT a source.

I once heard a Catholic aplogist (I believe Karl Keating) make a statement that protestants want to get nit-picky about what is obviously a deeply heartfelt “language of love” when referring to our Blessed Mother, which is a bit ludicrous since they don’t understand her full role in our faith. God Bless

I know that anyone who honors Mary does it because of her relationship with Jesus. The rosary is an organizational tool. It helps focus your prayers on the gospel.

The Hail Mary is taken from Luke 1:28-35, 42-48

It is a scriptural prayer.

“Those who trust themselves to me through the Rosary will not perish.” is awesome!

It doesn’t imply that Mary is on par with Jesus, it is saying those who are faithful to these prayers and incorporate the mysteries and values of the rosary (ie. humility, compassion, poverty, obedience, and piety from the joyful mysteries.) will in fact be good Christians and be very close to Christ.

I can’t believe you didn’t say something about vain repetitions. (That’s the next issue we will hear about.) I’ll say that the prayers aren’t vain repetitions because they are made to focus us on the scripture and spiritual fruits of the rosary.

I’m attaching a file that I found interesting on another thread about the validity of the rosary. I found it very interesting! (I hope I didn’t get too off track.)

P.S. The attachment I added is not my ideas and I’m not trying to pass what I think is a really interesting summary as my work.

He’s quoting OUR bible, the words OUR church established, not his, he needs another reference point to use to go up against OUR teachings. He’s either for or against the church, and if he’s against it, he is against the teachings of the bible itself, he has no claim to it all all, much less telling us to reference it against us. We were talking about, praying with Mary long before it was even written, for him to use it as any kind of reference in the first place is pointless regardless of what is said within it, it’s a major after the fact element.

Then point out to him, he’s insulting our Lords Mother and we as well as our Lord himself do not at all take kindly to that what so ever. If he has a question, let him do so humbly, if not, tell him to join another religion, Christianity is not at all about tearing itself apart, it’s about unity, period, end of story.

The Virgin Mary, as a Christian and member of his Church, is mystically united with her son, Jesus Christ; they are mystically one. To persecute one is to persecute the other. (See Acts 9:4) To trust yourself to one is to trust yourself to the other. The argument presented against the Rosary ignores this fundamental Christian truth.

Isn’t it true that the Church doesn’t say everyone must believe personal revelations (as I believe the promises of the rosary are)? The Church doesn’t say they are doctrine /dogma, ie, it isn’t Church teaching??

That is taken from a great website called Catholic Bridge (davidmacd.com/catholic/index2.htm). David MacDonald has really helped me understand the Catholic faith; I owe so much to his site!

Wow, I am overwhelmed with the response here. I am glad to see so many people with a great love for our Mother.

I liked the point Nathan Wagar made about Protestants wanting to get nit-picky about what is a deeply heartfelt language of love.

Not many Protestants will give a second thought before singing any of these secular songs-

“How do I live without you, I want to know” (Haven’t you read John 14:6?)

“How deep is your love … you’re the light in my deepest darkest hour” (Isn’t Jesus the light?)

“I’m everything I am because you loved me” (Am I not everything because Christ loved me?)

I can quote many more of these!! When we Catholics use similar language about Mary, all of a sudden their spiritual antennas begin to perk up.

Thanks to kmuestwin for that rosary guide.

I was in a Baptist church once on Mother’s Day, and they sung several hymns to ‘mother’. Yet these same Baptists shrink in horror at thought of a Rosary?

Hate my Mother…Hate Me. <-My quickest argument.

“Typing” or “Type” or “Typology” in the Bible:
catholicbible101.com/biblicaltypology.htm
Biblical typology is when a person or an event in the Old Testament foreshadows a person or an event in the New Testament. The bible is full of these kind of things. It is a primary tool of Catholic biblical exegesis to study these, because they all point toward the fact that Jesus Christ is indeed the Messiah (the Anointed One) promised to the Israelites for centuries……

catholicbible101.com/theblessedvirginmary.htm
…The Blessed Virgin Mary is also seen as the Queen Mother. In the Old Testament, the Kings’ mother was the queen. The Kings in the Old Testament, like Solomon, had so many wives that it would have been hard to choose one over the other, so the mother of the King became the Queen. Bathsheeba, David’s wife, was King Solomon’s Queen Mother. In 1 Kings 2, Adonijah approaches the Queen Bathsheeba to ask her to intercede on his behalf with King Solomon. When she asks her son for Adonijah’s favor, King Solomon says “Make your request, my mother; for I will not refuse you”. This is a parallel to the New Testament, John 2, when Mary intercedes on behalf of the wedding couple to Jesus about the wine that has run out. Solomon didn’t refuse his Queen Mother in the Old Testament, and Jesus didn’t refuse his Queen Mother in the New Testament. Neither does he refuse her now…

<Great Article, all the way through!>
The Queen Mother was the only one who could approach the King unannounced.
The people would ask the Queen Mother to intercede on their behalf-with the King.

Luke 1:48
“All generations to come shall call me blessed” (Luke 1:48).
We ask the Queen Mother, whom (in the Bible) is Blessed, to intercede *on our behalf *with Her Son. We believe He loves His Mother, who was obedient so much, that He has a hard time turning her down.

I know I would.
I could never refuse my mother anything, if it were within my ability to give something to her.

Think about it—Christ created His Own Mother. If we (you-me-each of us) could have created our own Mother, wouldn’t we have made her the prettiest, sweetest, most attentive Mother?

She was the best by far-God’s perfect Creation.

When she died, Christ would not allow her body to become corrupt on earth. He assumed her body into Heaven, and reinfused it with her soul. This isn’t too hard to accept-for one, Elijah rode a Chariot of Fire to Heaven-his body is not here. If it’s good enough for Elijah, Christ’s own mother, His first Temple on earth—at the very least—deserved the same.

She is the Queen of Heaven. Her Son Jesus, the King.

God Bless you.
+Peace In Christ.

I wrote my post above, because it seems the 2 Mysteries that may be the hardest to accept are the 4th and 5th Glorious Mysteries.
-The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
The Coronation of the Blessed Virgin as Queen of Heaven and Earth.

The Rosary, after all, came from Heaven. It was NOT imagined by someone on earth. A gift to us all.

All the other Mysteries are Biblical. But then again, so are the 4th & 5th.

Mary and her Role is defined by Christ’s Church.
She is the Mother of God.
The most perfect “adorer” of the Holy Trinity:

The Daughter of God the Father.
Mother of God the Son.
Spouse of God the Holy Spirit.

The most perfect adorer.

Have a Blessed Day.
+Peace Be With You.

Many thanks Kmuestwin for your contribution and the Rosary link. 😃
May we remind ourselves (Protestant and Catholic) of these words; 31 But as touching the resurrection of the dead, have ye not read that which was spoken unto you by God, saying, 32 I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob? God is not the God of the dead, but of the living. 🙂
Matt 22:30-32 (KJV)

The Rosary is Scriptural.

“Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with you.” (Luke 1:28, Luke 1:48)

“Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb, Jesus.” (Luke 1:42)

“Holy Mary, Mother of God.” (Luke 1:43)

“Pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.” (John 19: 26-27).

The Rosary is Christ centred.
“Pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.” (John 19: 26-27).
Care to take another shot?

Praying the Rosary is praying the Gospel.

And in regards to the Rosary being Christ centered, that is literally true, because in the very middle of the Hail Mary prayer is the name of Jesus.

You know, that is really a very good point! 👍

I have often thought that the Assumption & the Coronation are most approipriate. After all, all Christians believe that believers will one day be resurrected & our bodies made new; and the Bible tells us that all will be crowned with righteousness. Why not Mary, then? Its like:( objecting that she is somehow disqualified for something that the Scriptures say is for everyone who follows Christ…
That would not only make no sense; it would be really, really rude & presumptuous as well!
