How is this possible??? Isn’t the KKK anti-Catholic? Also, the priests’ story shows he is still in denial – the Diocese of Arlington states that he only resigned after being told that a reporter would write an article about him. There was no remorse until he realized he’d be known as a Klan leader. I’ll bet his laicization is already on Pope Francis’ desk.

EDIT, another story on this from the DailyCaller:

Wouldn’t it be more accurate to say “priest outed as former klan leader”?

News Item:
“Paul a/k/a Saul outed as Persecutor of Christians”.

According to the reliable source, the Alarmist Review, the name change is typical among those trying to cover up their controversial past.

The Washington Post article from the reporter who was a former parishioner at the father’s church was very enlightening. I agree that the father should seek out those he terrorized and personally apologize for his actions, as well as identify those who other KKK members who participated in the terror with him but who were never identified.

According to the Diocesan statement, the reporter introduced herself as a parishioner.

It sounds to me like he had renounced his klan associations some years back. If he’s truly repentant, and given up his ideology - like it seems he has - I don’t see why he can’t have a meaningful ministry. Perhaps this places him in a perfect spot to minister to those in the Church who haven’t gotten over their bigotry yet.

It is clear that he wasn’t a priest, or even a practicing Catholic, forty years ago when this happened. He evidently had a conversion experience. It is concerning that he has apparently not paid the court ordered damages. We should pray for the Bishop of Arlington to resolve this, and for all involved.

St. Paul was a former persecutor of Christians and participated in the killing of St. Stephen. Is his remorse genuine? I do not think we should even ask that question. It is enough that his bishop has to consider what to do.

Ok, point noted.

However, remorse only came up when confronted. Correct?
NO, I believe he converted and then went to the seminary. god chose all kinds of sinners to great holiness. St Paul used to persecute the Church. The Abba Moses used to belong to a band of thieves before he joined the monastery. St Ignatius of Loyola was a soldier of fortune. .

Thank you for introducing the facts.
Whoever wrote the tagline to this post must work in the media.

Yes! I read the statement of the priest and it sounded very sincere. It was something that took place earlier in his life.

Look at St. Paul! He was out to get all those who were following our Lord Jesus Christ! But, by the grace of God he was converted to the truth.

This thread is a shining example of why CAF needs to have education material available for its users about how the internet works.

Every one of those links in the OP relies on counting how many people click on that particular link in order to drive their numbers up so advertisers have to pay more. Providing all those links to a click bait non-story just drives more traffic and proves the effectiveness of their carrot and stick methods.

Many of us could benefit from some remedial education in critical thinking from time to time, including myself.

Non story? Ok head in the sand.

Whether a conversion occurred or not, a now Catholic priest acting as a Klan Leader at any point in his life IS a Story, no matter what manner of denial anyone chooses

You need to read that story about throwing the stone.

If you read his entire story instead of trying to smear, you would know that.

This is not about head in the sand, but someone trying to smear a priest on here.

Should being a klan leader disqualify one from being a priest, even with repentance?
