As the Flame of Catholic Dissent Dies Out

Remember there is a place for dissent in the church.

The fact that a concept such as " lack of impeccability" vs, the concept of “infallibility” has been developed by the church implys that the chicken coop still has to be watched.

If we always go along with everything that the human church does, then we may see some straying from Jesus’ directive to the church be as shepherds to His flock.

Historically that has been true and it is still the case today.

The church can always be better and more closely configured to Jesus’ teachings.

Peace

Well, first of all, would you please answer the final post of your thread “Longing for a simpler faith”?
Secondly, although I do not sympatize with what the poster said. The OP is a news article and a legitimate subject to discuss.
If you do not wish to discuss the article, there are other threads that might be more to your liking.
I am commenting on the article excerpt and quoted from it. I believe that is well within forum rules. I also have a right not to post, not to answer, to withhold comment. That is also within the TOS here.

In this thread I see an attitude that I see a lot here, one that has not endeared me to the Traditionalist branch of the Catholic Church. No one else on this thread seemed to care that some people are dying, but rather all have rejoiced that, with these deaths the Church will change to their liking. This is an unfortunate and disreputable point of view that exemplifies the negativity I’ve seen at this forum.

This thread is a head-scratcher. As a convert in 2006, I guess I’m not as emotionally pre-loaded as many on both sides of this argument. Thank God. I think it’s more important to feed the hungry than spat about altar rails.
I understand someone who is a convert might be confused at what the issue is. And I can tell you that it is more than just altar rails. Traditiona is about a type of spirituality that is largely lost in the 21st Century Catholic Church.

By refusing to answer a question no other Catholic would have a problem answering you have, in effect, given me the answer.

I didn’t answer because, frankly, I’ve decided I dislike you, personally. I don’t like your tone or the spirit I’ve observed in your posts.

Reminder: For better or worse and despite all the complaints I have recently received, this is the “traditional” Latin Rite Catholic forum. If you cannot accept that there are others on either side which have different opinions, do not post of this forum. If you cannot post charitably, do no post. That applies to everyone.

You do know what forum you are in, right! OK, bye!

SonofMonica, I am a so called baby boomer and want to make sure you know that not all baby boomers are dissidents. after i came back from being away for many years, i was surprised by the liberalism. I came back to obey and not try to change the constancy our world needs. I left not fully understanding what I had left. I am so grateful for my reformation thanks to Mother Angelica and crew. God bless you!😉

God bless you, as well! Certainly I didn’t mean to imply that all baby-boomers were the problem. If that were so, my generation wouldn’t be here at all. I simply mean that the '70s is really when all this liturgical abuse began to happen, and it was the baby-boomer generation that contains all these “free spirits.” And my generation is not all good, either! Some have learned not to get married, thanks to your generation getting divorces. And some have not learned anything about the church, thanks to the otherwise faithful of your generation feeling like Vatican II stripped them of everything about the Church that they knew and simply stopping going to church altogether. But then there are those of us who do know the truth and do care. And we simply cannot stand bad music and hippie community slang and “living into the reality of community” and all that stuff as a matter of personal preference. That, combined with the wonderous gift of our Holy Father Pope Benedict’s liturgical reforms will renew our Church. Already we are seeing record numbers in the seminaries, thanks be to God!

Vatican II was not about guitar masses.
Ok sorry I stand corrected. I didn’t think it was about returning the Mass to Latin and kneeling at a Communion rail while receiving the Eucharist by mouth. Let me think. In my Last Supper picture are the Apostles kneeling while eating?

The Mass is not a reenactment of the Last Supper. The first Mass, in a sense, occurred at the Last Supper. But we are not trying to recreate the scene. For instance, the recipients are not limited to 12 select apostles.

Well true. Not limited to 12 necessarily. At least not yet. But still limited despite what Jesus said in the Jn 6 Eucharist discussion about how He would never turn away anyone who approahes Him at the table. But oh well to each their own beliefs I suppose. 🤷

Your profile states that you are Catholic. As such, I would hope that your publicly stated beliefs line up with the Church. Yours in prayer - SonofMonica

SonofMonica, thanks for your prayers. Let me see. I’ll have to check the dates on my Baptismal record. But Vat 2 was probably right around my First Communion time if my aging memory serves correct, give or take. And Confirmation shortly after relatively speaking. Hopefully I have a few yrs left before I die out though. All of you enjoy the old/new traditions of Latin and so forth though in the meantime.

Why do we keep going around in circles?!!!

“No one else … the Church will change to their liking.”
This has nothing to do with the Churchs changing to our "liking". THE TRUTH IS THAT THE PEOPLE MENTIONED ON THIS THREAD HAVE BEEN PROMOTING AN AGENDA WHICH IS NOT TO GODS LIKING! HERESY, LESBIAN WITCRAFT (Mary Daly) etc etc etc. As already said by other posters, its the collapse of this agenda thats being celebrated, not the deaths of the poor misguided souls who have been pushing it. The state of their immortal souls is between themselves and God. But it doesnt change the fact that theyve been peddling POISON. We at least “love the sinner, but hate the sin”.

God is Eternal and Changeless.
The Church is Divinely instituted, and Her teachings on Faith and Morals are also Eternal and Changeless. We either accept the Churchs teachings, or we dont. There`s no way to dodge it.

The pre-Vatican II Church and the post-Vatican II Church are ONE AND THE SAME.

As Patrick pointed out, the subject of the thread is the Wall Street Journal article, not each other. Stay focused on the topic.

Getting back to the OP.
I don’t beleive dissent will ever truly ‘die out’. Should we look at the causes that originated some of the dissent? Causes that obviously pre-dated Vatican 2.
