Do you claim to have some idea what Peter meant to say by it??
(I was intending to say that your view that saints don’t partake of the divine nature - are simply stuck with human limitations and therefore can’t handle all our petitions - obviously contradicts scripture.)

Here’s what you wrote…

Yes, they stand by God interceding for us on our behalf, because they partake of the Divine Nature. that same Nature that is God. Now that is crazy to think about…but it is true! In a way this is becoming like God, Theosis!

Me, too. I looked at every religion, compared them all to what I was reading in the Bible, and realized that there were only two possibilities - the Plymouth Brethren (every man for himself and his family) or the Catholic Church. Once I started really looking at history, the Plymouth Brethren got knocked out of the race, which left only the Catholic Church - and so here I am. 🙂
👍

That’s a great question and I appreciate you asking it. I’ll answer, and I’d like you to answer your own question for me too. What would it take for you to convert to Protestantism?

There are many hangups for me. I imagine a number of those would have to be dealt with sufficiently.

It’s Scripture that keeps Protestants from Catholicism. So I’d have to see the entire system of Popes and Catholic leadership from one brief passage in Mt 16. I’d have to see Scripture pointing to an equal authority outside itself. I’d have to see praying to Saints from Scripture. I’d have to see baptizing infants in Scripture. I’d have to see real presence from Scripture. Etc.
Could you please provide the Scriptural cite the forbids infant baptism?
When whole families are baptized in Scripture–would you cite the part of the passage that says “except their infant children” or “and lo no families had infant children”

When St. Paul tells us to hold fast to the traditions taught by him orally–that’s not Scripture pointing to an equal authority outside of itself?

What did the first Christians do without the authoritative New Testament? What did they do before the first letters and gospels were written? What did they do before they could read? Where did they go in order to know what to do?

You don’t see a Church heirarchy with a leader in place at the Coucil of Jerusalem described in Acts?

How do you believe you got this Sacred Scripture–that you trust?

We do see the real presence in the Scripture–to us it seems you refuse to connect the dots–to see the picture. These things you don’t see in Scripture we see. Please don’t respond by telling us we see what we want to see because the counter to that is you don’t see what you don’t want to see.-- its he said she said. A better approach would be for us to make our cases.

Since you rest your belief on Sacred Scripture–I think it woudl benefit you to study the history of Sacred Scripture (If you have not already done so). I always find it difficult to believe that you use what is essentially a collection of books that bishops of the Catholic Church approved as divinely inspired and therefore could be proclaimed at mass–and tell us what it means. But everything you believe–rests on properly understanding the orgin of the Bible and how you know which books are inspired.

This is because at the Second Coming He will come back into time to judge the living (still in time) and the dead.

Rev12: Behold, I come quickly: and my reward is with me, to render to every man according to his works.

What about women? We won’t be involved because, according to sola scriptura, it says so in the bible.

I thought that Protestants didn’t believe in being saved by works and there it clearly is, spoken of by Christ Himself.
haha you women get of easy I guess. 🤷 No judgment for you! 😛

Steve, Baptist Pastor,

If you do not claim your denomination (“Southern Baptist”) to be the One True Church of Jesus Christ that flows directly from Jesus Christ (God Incarnate) and His Twelve Apostles, please answer these questions:

1.) Why does it concern you to spread your version of Christianity, especially since you admit it may be wrong?
2.) If a Catholic becAme Episcopalian, Lutheran, or Presbyterian, would you be happy?
3.) How do you justify preaching your version of Christianity if you admit it is not the One True Church?

What? I didn’t know he said such things. Of course, I kinda jumped in this thread late, but why bother now…he doesnt even belief what he is saying is true! Ugh!

I knew you would come back and say 1/3 fell, but that is 1/3 from the angels right? Do we not have a guardian angel for each and every one of us? that would mean according to your logic that 2/3 of the angels are good and are our guadians, that means more people and guardian angels at one time then compared to devils.
This is hilarious because it literally is from the Simpsons. Anyone else remember an episode with devil-Homer and angel-Homer debating while perched on man-Homer’s two shoulders? It is possible I suppose, but really not, so not, a biblical teaching. 😃

Yes they used Scripture, the Church is guided by the Holy Spirit in interpreting Scripture correctly, but they also used what was handed down to them in Faith.

I am not saying that they can prove Oneness Pentecostalism from Scripture, but that they like others, Arians, use Scripture to distort their beliefs. Which is why you need a source of infalliable authority to keep people on the right path.
This is where I think the Catholic church misses the point. Succession is NOT by pointing to the right Pope. Succession is pointing to the right Gospel. The right interpretation of Scripture. Jesus said Peter is the Rock NOT because Jesus wanted him to pass the baton of infallibility, but because his confession of Jesus was truth/Gospel and that would define succession.

We need no Pope. We have Christ and through His chosen witnesses, His Scripture. We need no priest. We have a great High Priest who intercedes for us and we are a royal priesthood (1 Peter 2:9). We need no sacrament, we know and remember his once and forever sacrifice. We need no re-presentation of His sacrifice. WE are the re-presentation of His sacrifice, for if the world hated him, they will hate us.

Goodness sakes. I never even came close to saying what I believe isn’t true.

To read the text alone in their room, pray to the Holy Spirit to reveal the meaning, and then assume that the next thought that comes into their mind is the voice of the Holy Spirit speaking to them - in the context of the a priori assumptions made by their particular brand of theology - or as Patty Bonds calls it, their list of "We know"s - of course!
Ha! That’s funny. But no.

The Council of Nicea took place in 325 AD, which is 80 years before we had a New Testament. They got it from the Holy Tradition; not from the Bible.

Actually, no - they provided the Nicene Creed, which was one of the documents used by the Councils of Hippo and Carthage to discern which writings should be included in the Scriptures.
Surely a Catholic brother or sister will gently correct you on these.

Goodness sakes. I never even came close to saying what I believe isn’t true.
Well good, because people need to start taking a stand for what they believe in and proclaim it to be true. If not, then this leads us down the road to relativism. This is why I say the Catholic Church is the only true Church, I am taking a stand for what I believe in. If someone belongs to a church, they too must take a stand and say that their church is true in everything. My friend doesn’t do this, and I know alot of protestants who don’t do this, my friend says he goes there for the experiences, but he acknowledges that his church is wrong in some things. This doesnt make sense to me, but hey that is relativism at its finest.

That’s my thought…why bother…he obviously does not want to hear the truth…does not want to see other’s point of view. I think he just started it to stir things up hoping he could “convert” some of us Catholics. He’s just not worth the time…other than to pray for him. Which is what I’ve going to go do.

If there is any bit of relativistic approach in his philosophy, I, too, would agree.

Way back in the thread you answered “NO” to the following question:

“Do you believe your denomination is the One True Church of Jesus Christ?”

I can’t take anymore of this. Time for a jog around the lake.
You offer minimal support for the doctrines of your denomination from the early Church. You believe in baptizing believers and casually accept that Presbyterians baptize babies.

Since you do not believe your denomination is the One True Church you have no business converting people to YOUR version of Christianity.

Protestantism is fickle. 30K+denominations and counting.

O.k. I’d like to just let this go but…I still have a lot of work to do.

I would like to point out that just telling us what we are doing doesn’t make it so either.

So why don’t we start with this–we won’t tell you what you believe or what you do and please don’t be so condescending as to tell us what we do and that we aren’t smart enough to know what we are doing.

I think that will make the discussion much more fruitful. If you think you know better than we do – what we do and aren’t open to hearing what we actually do–then I don’t see what the point of the discussion is.

If we discuss what worship is and we come to an agreement and we tell you that’s not what we do with Mary–and you refuse to acknowlege that – and tell us that it is what we do whether we know it or not–then I posit nothing can come from the discussion and there is no reason to engage in it.

From reading the above from your OP I have some concerns about your desire to engage in meaningful discussion and thought we should seek some clarification.

Peace,
Mark
I really don’t understand why so many Protestants come here to argue, unless they have an agenda. 😦

And we have a rare moment of clarity between us. 👍 He was saying that I’m not claiming Southern Baptists as the one, true church. I don’t say that.
