When we speak on the “charismatic movement” or “renewal” in the Church we must understand that it is The Holy Spirit who had this possible. I must agree with Fr. John Corapi who said (as heard on EWTN radio) that IF the Holy Catholic Church had remained charisamtic as it was founded as a Church it never would have needed a renewal, for we would all be working in the charisms of The Holy Spirit.
I agree with Fr. Corapi. Acts 2:1-21 says the apostles would receive power when the Holy Spirit came upon them. Ordinarily, the gifts of the Holy Spirit are transmitted by the laying on of hands (Acts 8:14-17,. Acts 19:1-7, etc.) but of course God can act without intermediary as at Pentecost. Luke says (11:9-13) the Father will give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him.

If you are already a follower of Jesus and truly desire the will of the Father, try asking God for more of his Spirit and be open to any or all the gifts he wants to give you. God WANTS to bless you but you need to want the gifts in order to serve him and others.

When you have been baptized in the Holy Spirit, you become a Charismatic!

I too had my experience with the occult. As I said I was “baptised in the Holy Spirit” at the age of 11, but as I became a teen I rebeled & did get involved in witchcraft & was a “self-professed” satanist at the age of 16. I was counseled my a priest that urged me to pray a Spiritual Warfare prayer as much as possible.

I came back to the church at age 18, & except for a few years back when I took a 2 year vacation from God (silly me, He wasn’t doing *my/] will 😃 ), I’ve been back in the swing of things. I attend daily mass (some times twice as Canon Law permits) & confess in the sacrament weekly.

No, I don’t think you’re trying to “stifle the Spirit” as some others are trying to do around here. You seem much more intellgent. :)*

😃 Hellbent? 😃 Just offering a few (independent) points of view at variance with yours. Your syncretistic mish-mash is hilarious! You’ve been all over the map. Obviously, no-one’s stiffled your spirit. Your attempts to offer ad-hoc spiritual direction get loonier and loonier. Here’s a lady who asks some very appropriate questions: BRUSKEWITZ AND PROBLEMS ON THE RIGHT

I guess you’ll sulk over this one, too. 😛

 Is this a personal attack? Sulk? :rotfl: <— Me “sulking”.
"Blessed are you when they insult you and persecute you and utter every kind of evil against you (falsely) because of me. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward will be great in heaven. Thus they persecuted the prophets who were before you. " Matt 5:11-12 👍

Just to let you know, I’m not going to click on your links. They’re pointless. Try quoting Sacred Scripture or the Catechism of the Church, then you’ll get my attention. All of your links have been meaningless dribble that you seem to put faith in, & that’s just sad.

“independent points of view” = your opinion. I’m interested only in the truth, not your interpretation of it or your lack of it. Opinions are like armpits…everybodies got a couple & they just stink. Your opinions mean something to you & you alone. And you call me “loony”. :ehh: Me advising someone to have Masses said for their loved ones & to frequent the sacraments…gasp…what was I thinking??? 😃

If you could find a Bible verse or Canon Law that states that YOUR OPINION is somehow important to anyone’s salvation, (including your own) then I’d really like to see it. 😉

Here’s a handy guide:
Ten warning signs of a potentially unsafe group/leader.
  1. Absolute authoritarianism without meaningful accountability.
  1. No tolerance for questions or critical inquiry.
  1. No meaningful financial disclosure regarding budget, expenses such as an independently audited financial statement.
  1. Unreasonable fear about the outside world, such as impending catastrophe, evil conspiracies and persecutions.
  1. There is no legitimate reason to leave, former followers are always wrong in leaving, negative or even evil.
  1. Former members often relate the same stories of abuse and reflect a similar pattern of grievances.
  1. There are records, books, news articles, or television programs that document the abuses of the group/leader.
  1. Followers feel they can never be “good enough”.
  1. The group/leader is always right.
  1. The group/leader is the exclusive means of knowing “truth” or receiving validation, no other process of discovery is really acceptable or credible.
Warning Signs

Thanks for all of this John. It’s always ALWAYS good to have both sides view on anything ^.^

Pope Leo XIII was certainly on top of things:
…all external guidance is set aside for those souls who are striving after Christian perfection as being superfluous or indeed, not useful in any sense -the contention being that the Holy Spirit pours richer and more abundant graces than formerly upon the souls of the faithful, so that without human intervention He teaches and guides them by some hidden instinct of His own. Yet it is the sign of no small over-confidence to desire to measure and determine the mode of the Divine communication to mankind, since it wholly depends upon His own good pleasure, and He is a most generous dispenser 'of his own gifts. “The Spirit breatheth whereso He listeth.”–John iii, 8.

I wonder…does a Charismatic attendance satisfy the obligation of going to Mass on Sundays and Holydays?

So your saying anyone that doesn’t submit to Charismatic Catholic views or criticizes them is of Satan?

Gotcha! 👍

Then you can see it’s not personal “views”, but Church documentation that calls EVERY CATHOLIC to use the gifts mentioned in 1 Cor 12.

But, yes, anyone that “stifles the Spirit” is being used by the evil one.

 what?

Does the pressence of “charismatic catholics” at Mass satisfy the obligation, or do you mean is a “charismatic” or “healing” Mass on Sunday tha same as ordinary Sunday Mass?

Then you can see it’s not personal “views”, but Church documentation that calls EVERY CATHOLIC to use the gifts mentioned in 1 Cor 12.
8 To one indeed, by the Spirit, is given the word of wisdom: and to another, the word of knowledge, according to the same Spirit; 9 To another, faith in the same spirit; to another, the grace of healing in one Spirit; 10 To another, the working of miracles; to another, prophecy; to another, the discerning of spirits; to another, diverse kinds of tongues; to another, interpretation of speeches.
Do you think we all have all these gifts or you may have the gift of tongue but not healing, and others may have the gift of healing but not of tongue?

So your saying anyone that doesn’t submit to Charismatic Catholic views or criticizes them is of Satan?

Gotcha! 👍
Re-check the warning signs in post # 63 above. 😃

Roy’s former daliance with satanism is no small irony. :ehh:

Sorry, wrong thread!

For all you “Charismatic Catholics” out there…be careful not to assume an attitude of exclusivity or elitism. My in-laws first joined the “Cursillo” movement but they don’t call themselves “Cursillo Catholics”. Others have been introduced to the John XXIII movement but they don’t call themselves “John XXIII Catholics”. I joined the Catholic Charismatic movement in the early 70’s and I don’t call myself a “Charismatic Catholic”. The point is we are Catholics, period. Just as the Marian Movement of Priests is a movement within the Catholic church, the priests don’t call themselves “Marian Priests”, they are priests, period. No single movement makes one catholic better than another catholic. The devotions that I practice may not be your cup of tea but they work for me and I can only suggest them to others but not as an imposition. It will serve no purpose to me if I belong to every movement and ministry from KofC to altar server - if I don’t do the basic catholic things consistently (sacrament of Penance, communion, attending mass regularly etc.) I will be like the seed that landed in rocky, unfertile ground.
Pax Domini sit semper vobiscum.
