Why is Polygamy allowed in Islam ?

…Qur’an is the only religious scripture in the world that says ‘marry only one’. …The context of this phrase is the following verse from Surah Nisa of the Glorious Qur’an: ‘Marry woman of your choice in twos’ threes’ or fours’ but if ye fear that ye shall not be able to deal justly, (with them), then only one’ [Al-Qur’an 4:3]

Dr. Zakir Naik, as a perfect example of lying Muslims, is trying to deceive people and forcing us to submit to his faulty allegations. The Koran ALWAYS poses an alternative to monogamy. Let’s read the verse in its entirety with the part deliberately chopped by Mr Naik:

Surah 04:03
And if ye fear that ye will not deal fairly by the orphans, marry of the women, who seem good to you, two or three or four; and if ye fear that ye cannot do justice (to so many) then one (only)** or (the captives) that your right hands possess**. Thus it is more likely that ye will not do injustice.

Muslim men must decide what to do: if they fear that they will not be fair to the orphans, they are allowed to marry up to four women they freely choose. IF they fear that they will not be fair to their multiple wives, they are asked to marry one OR several concubines. Thus, polygamy is again preferred to monogamy.

…Christian men were permitted as many wives as they wished, since the Bible puts no restriction on the number of wives. It was only a couple of centuries ago that the Church restricted the number of wives to one.

This is another lie from the dishonest Muslim scholar. Christianity never allowed men to practice polygamy, for Christ’s reference to the first couple of the human race in the book of Genesis highlighted the fact that God primarily imposed monogamy on the first humans He created.

Besides, there is not a single verse in the New Testament that allows Christian men to practice polygamy. Apostle Paul asks Christian communities to choose their leaders from among men married to ONE woman (1Titus 3:2). Muslims and their lies!

Polygyny is permitted in Judaism. According to Talmudic law, Abraham had 2 ( M W : actually 3 ) wives, and Solomon had hundreds of wives. The practice of polygyny continued till Rabbi Gershom ben Yehudah. (960 A.D to 1030 A.D) issued an edict against it.

However, Abraham never asked people to take him as a role model for marriage. He had two wives because of his exceptional case. It is true that Solomon was a king who married many women, but it is also true that his practice of polygamy incurred several problems. The Mosaic Law has no precept that officially allows men to marry more than one wife (unlike in the Koran!). At the time of the prophets, God used monogamy as an analogy while denouncing Israel as His unfaithful bride cheating on Him with many pagan deities.

These statistics have nothing to do with the verse of the Koran. More, there are lots of gays and unfaithful men/women in Islamic countries. The Law of the Koran fails to remove adultery and homosexuality from the hearts of some Muslims.

Biologically, it is not possible for an average man or a woman to remain celibate throughout life. It may be possible in exceptional cases of one in ten thousand. In the vast majority, the person either gets married or performs illicit sex or indulges in other sexual perversions. Sex hormones are released in the adult body every day. That is the reason why Islam has prohibited monasticism.

It is not true that Islam has prohibited monasticism. Naik is good at perverting his scripture and multiplying his lies! The only Koran verse having the word “monasticism” claims that it was not officially prescribed by Allah, but voluntarily and traditionally instituted by Christians who wanted to win the favour of Allah (Surah 57:27).

The point here is that Mohammad forbade his many wives from marrying after his death (Surah 33:53). If Naik’s arguments about human biology and the impossibility of celibacy are true, the chastity of Mohammad’s wives after his death will turn into a big problem for Muslims.

In Western society it is common for a man to have mistresses and/or multiple extra-marital affairs, in which case, the woman leads a disgraceful, unprotected life. The same society, however, cannot accept a man having more than one wife, in which women retain their honourable, dignified position in society and lead a protected life.

Polygamy is the allowed version of adultery in Islam. Genuine Christians commit a sin if they have mistresses. You cannot judge Christianity by what some so-called Christians do.

Thus the only two options before a woman who cannot find a husband is to marry a married man or to become public property. Islam prefers giving women the honourable position by permitting the first option and disallowing the second. There are several other reasons, why Islam has permitted limited polygyny, but it is mainly to protect the modesty of women.

Islam defames and degrades women by FORCING them to be one of the several wives of a man. The result is jealousy and rivalry, which were praciticed even by two of Mohammad’s wives and supposedly incurred Allah’s wrath and threats.

Islam is indeed a religion that is good at creating problems rather than at providing solutions.

The mention of the story of Joseph son of Jacob is a very good example. The Quran describes the good efforts of the earlier prophets in spreading the message of the Unity of God. It also describes the bad end (result) of the disbelievers. There is much more on spiritual side in the Quran which was missing in earlier scriptures.

The mention of the story of Joseph son of Jacob is a very good example of how the authors of the Koran distorted the original narrative in the Torah to their detriment.

Now let’s see the problems and mistakes of this Islamic version of Joseph’s story in the Koran.

First, Joseph’s story is related in its entirety and in many details only ONCE in the Koran (Surah 12), which mostly repeats the accounts of the other former prophets with variations. Thus, this kind of a writing style (flowing and coherent narrative) is rather odd for the rest of the Koran since it perfectly betrays the Islamic notion of progressive and repetitive revelation.

Second, the authors of the Koran dedicate their efforts to justifying Joseph by proving Potiphar’s (El Aziz in the Koran!) wife a lying and sinful woman. As a result, the story presents Potiphar as a man believing in Joseph’s innocence and blaming his wife by remarking that ALL WOMEN are deceitful creatures:

Surah 12:23-28
And she, in whose house he was, asked of him an evil act. She bolted the doors and said: Come! He said: I seek refuge in Allah! Lo! he is my lord, who hath treated me honourably. Lo! wrong-doers never prosper.She verily desired him, and he would have desired her if it had not been that he saw the argument of his Lord. Thus it was, that We might ward off from him evil and lewdness. Lo! he was of Our chosen slaves. And they raced with one another to the door, and she tore his shirt from behind, and they met her lord and master at the door. She said: What shall be his reward, who wisheth evil to thy folk, save prison or a painful doom ? (Joseph) said: She it was who asked of me an evil act. And a witness of her own folk testified: If his shirt is torn from before, then she speaketh truth and he is of the liars. And if his shirt is torn from behind, then she hath lied and he is of the truthful. So** when he saw his shirt torn from behind, he said: Lo! this is of the guile of you women.** Lo! the guile of you is very great.

According to the narrative in the Koran, Joseph is cast into jail after some time ALTHOUGH his master believes that he is an innocent man tricked by his wife. Thus, the authors of the Koran imprison Joseph with no good reason because they think they have to follow the original account in the Torah at this point of the story:

Surah 12:33-35
He said: O my Lord! Prison is more dear than that unto which they urge me, and if Thou fend not off their wiles from me I shall incline unto them and become of the foolish. So his Lord heard his prayer and fended off their wiles from him. Lo! He is Hearer, Knower. And it seemed good to them (the men-folk) after they had seen the signs (of his innocence)** to imprison him** for a time. (Here either Potiphar loses his memory or some other people (who?) imprison Joseph without his consent).

Third, the authors of the Koran assert that the Egyptian King crucified the criminals at Joseph’s period, which is rebutted and ridiculed by historic evidence:

Surah 12:41
O my two fellow-prisoners! As for one of you, he will pour out wine for his lord to drink; and as for the other, he will be crucified so that the birds will eat from his head. Thus is the case judged concerning which ye did inquire.

Finally, the following verses allege that Joseph acted like an Islamic messenger when he was in jail and preached the Islamic monotheism to his friends:

Surah 12:38-40
And I have followed the religion of my fathers, Abraham and Isaac and Jacob. It never was for us to attribute aught as partner to Allah. This is of the bounty of Allah unto us (the seed of Abraham) and unto mankind; but most men give not thanks. O my fellow-prisoners! Are divers lords better, or Allah the One, Almighty ? Those whom ye worship beside Him are but names which ye have named, ye and your fathers. Allah hath revealed no sanction for them. The decision rests with Allah only, Who hath commanded you that ye worship none save Him. This is the right religion, but most men know not.

The problem with this false allegation is that it contradicts the following verse:

Surah 14:4
And We never sent a messenger save with the language of his folk, that he might make (the message) clear for them. Then Allah sendeth whom He will astray, and guideth whom He will. He is the Mighty, the Wise.

If this verse is true, Muslims must believe that Joseph was sent as an Islamic prophet to Egypt (not his own folk!) with the tongue of his people (Hebrew).

A favored tactic was ‘deceptive triangulation’; to persuade the enemy that jihad was not aimed at them but at another enemy. Another tactic was to deny that there was jihad at all. The fate for such faulty assessments by the target was death.

According to the muslims, you must become a muslim to understand that. Somehow it makes sense. If you are a muslim and ask everything about muslim, then the taqiyya can not be applied to you. Once you understand that, you can go back to whatever religion you embraced before. Unfortunately, it sounds like of another Taqiyya.

I cannot keep myself from laughing. Are you saying that both Hitler and Mohammad received the same apparation? Looks like that Hitler tried to follow what Mohammad did. Why Hitler failed? because he forgot to declare himself as a prophet. Remember, a leader, whatever shall be called, can be overthrown. But, a prophet, cannot.

Hitler failed because he didn’t make Nazism a religion. You actually answered your own question - he forgot to declare himself a prophet. You seem to have negated mohammed by admitting that. Just because mohammed delcared himself a prophet does not make him so.

There is another reason why Hitler did not succeed other than he didn’t declare himself a prophet. We are not of the 7th century anymore, we should be able to realize the difference between cult leaders who are harmless and those who are not. And since mohammed does not fit into being a prophet - he is a cult leader.

And the interesting part about mohammed is that he had the very things many cult leaders have - frontal lobe epilepsy, narcissism, megalomania, and he also was paranoid, and probably had a problem that children who grow up that had a mother that gave her baby away, and then was also rejected by his wet nurse. You cannot say that the Torah taught Jews to kill ALL non-Jews because there is no precept in the Mosaic Law that obligates every follower of Judaism to conduct genocide on the Gentiles. Then you have a wrong concept of the original sin. That was only the mistake of Adam, the first prophet of God.To err is human. Forgiveness is divine. Adam and Eve were forgiven by Allah. So there is no sin left. They repented and Jesus plus John the Baptist taught the lesson of repentence. But you invented a new formula of atonement by the blood of an innocent man (Jesus).

Then you have an awkward list of the prophets of your choice, made out by yourself. Are you a god too? All un-natural, untrue things bundled into your system with lot of prejudice and bias, you cannot move even inch in the way of truth and decency. So you blame me for all your ills.**
