I apologize if someone already mentioned this, I honestly did not rear through the entire thread.
I am not saying this is a fact, but it was always my understanding, that the Homilies were supposed to be teaching on the scriptures that were read in that days Mass. If that is the case then I suppose he probably can’t deviate. However I don’t see why he could not talk about it just before the announcements, in the Chuch Bulletin or something along those lines.

Yeah, spot on Qwerty!
I’m not so sure about the kindergarten part.
Funny story: My eldest child once asked me how the sperm gets to the egg. He was about 6. I’m a very facts and figures sort of person and believed in giving accurate and complete information. I also believed that if he was asking the question, he was ready for the answer. So I told him. He didn’t believe me. He thought it was the most ridiculous thing you’ve ever heard and really weird.

Same here. Our new pastor of two years gives terrific homilies and speaks of these issue consistently. Our previous pastor rarely if ever touched on these topics. He just wouldn’t go there

I always assumed most of them don’t do so because it’s difficult to fully cover hard topics within the 15 mins given

Some priests do talk about these issues. I’d say it depends on the priest, the parish and type of mass. Ģo to week day mass then you hear a lot more topics as people are less likely to be offended cos they have a certain level of devotion to be there in the first place not saying Sunday mass goers dont, just that because of the obligation you cant assume it.

You may want to edit your post, I think you are trying to quote an Encyclical then add your commentary, however, there is no clear delineation.

Faith and morals are taught by the Church, politics are not.

At one time, “mail order” and local delivery were how people shopped, even those who went into a store did not carry the packages but the store later delivered them. Milk came to your door every morning.

Retail is a cycle. We are going back to the way things used to be. People are still needed, they will simply do different jobs than ringing up your bread and milk.

I hope you are right and that the people who lose retail jobs will have other opportunities than McDonalds.

but it is the lesser evil for them to have this knowledge.
I agree with everything you say. Perhaps “lesser evil” was the wrong term for me to use. Conveying knowledge is not evil, and withholding knowledge is not evil. I simply meant that you have two scenarios; either you go ahead and impart the knowledge, realizing that your child will then know that such things exist, or you withhold the knowledge and keep your child innocent and ignorant of such evils. If you establish in your home that certain subjects are taboo and not to be discussed, then your child will get his knowledge from playmates, the media, and on the proverbial “street corner”.

I think it is much preferable that the child receive their knowledge from a parent, at home, in private, where you can then impart the proper values and ensure that they get the right “slant” on life. One reason (of many) we homeschool is that my son does not get the impression from kids at school that drugs are cool, pornography and sexual experimentation is fun, lying, fighting, and bullying are good ways to solve problems, and so on. There is a delicate balance to be struck between “living in a bubble” on the one hand, and letting the aberrant values and disvalues of the larger secular world be presented as something attractive.

Did you read the whole comment? I conveyed that Bishop Fulton J. Sheen would not sully the reputation of the Church by reporting an infiltration if it weren’t true.
~
The truth did not sully the Church; only those who teach giving into or pandering
to a culture of death, outright or by deliberate ambiguity regarding grave moral concerns for ‘social justice’ concerns with various clever ‘politically correct’ playing at heartstrings techniques sully the Church’s reputation. The pretenders don’t care about that as long as they get propaganda and/or funding for their changeable morality and distorted from reasoned positions to radical positions in social justice to satisfy their intellectual elitist philosophies/ideologies/agendas with various new terminologies.
The saddest part are those of good will who do not wish to learn of these clear historical happens; however obscured and secret by subterfuge they have been.
It’s so easy to paint them as loony tunes conspiracy theories or paint them as so obscure that they just can’t be true. And there are those from Jesus Christ’s impartial view with full act of the will paint a false ‘social justice’ Jesus; give some talking points regarding the massive culture of death murdering the helpless by the tens of thousands, mostly tiny children, but also elderly & sick; but mostly pander to those who distort social justice and/or concentrate on a form an almost ‘bread alone’ philosophy. Jesus Christ taught these types worship, pray, fast, give alms (show concern for the poor) but are inwardly full of all manner of corruption. They sold themselves to Satan for their own intellectual concept of Jesus. Not all who say, ‘Lord, Lord’ will enter The Kingdom of God; only those who build their house on the Rock of Christ and do His Will.

The anti-life forces are by nature anti-Christ. Each of us are susceptible to ‘familiar spirits,’ which know each of our emotional needs, earthly needs, and need to have a purpose in life. But in order to participate in Christ, we must renounce all for The Kingdom of God; and never pander in any way shape or form letting our intellect and/or emotions be swayed to pander to continuing the ‘air of acceptability’ grown from humankind’s false law killing the least among us for social justice concerns. Over the decades, some purposely, some by fatigue help society to be ‘anesthetized’ to the shocking atrocity of so many crimes against humanity of the helpless. As a matter of fact, Vladimir Lenin and cohorts almost 100 years ago legalized child killing in the womb for the very same playing at heartstrings ‘autonomy’ & harsh realities of families on earth reasons.
Peace.

I didn’t quote the Encyclical. But the gist of it is that we are to assert The Sovereignty of Jesus Christ in every venue of society. Within the Church it could be done with clarity.
For those outside the Church we assert the self-evident truths give such things as
“The Laws of Nature,” ‘Nature’s God," and ‘Creator’ in our Declaration of Independence for example.
Calling giving proper weighted attention to grave moral concerns, especially giving consent to those who oppose *self-evident’ Creator truths is a grave moral evil: ‘politics;’ is a well known tactic of the Adversary.

The truth did not sully the Church
Thanks. i just find juxtapositions like this jarring. If you do not see the problem, you are lucky. Thanks for explaining.

Your comment confuses me. What do you mean?
The infiltration, even those of good will unknowingly participating hurts the reputation of The Church detracting from the Remnant Authentically Participating in Christ Church;
the truth of this does not, it exposes the darkness without railing against it or fretting about it.
Part of Evangelization is to bring clarity to historical times.

I agree. And I thank you for your careful reasonings and approach on this matter, and on the education of your son in general. My wife and I are past the age of child-bearing (although I remember Abram and Sarai - God can do anything He wills!), but I tremble at the responsibility and difficulty of raising children in holiness, in this dark and darkening culture. May the Lord give you the graces needed.

Again, what is so objectionable about the term panhandler? What else would you call them and how is that term any better?

After World War II, with the Cold War and it’s very gradual insidious tenacious by subterfuge propaganda in all of the venues & facets of the open Western society still happening their are good Godly ideas & ideals many started realizing to prevent such a war as World War II from happening. Some of these are peaceful coexistence among cultures, religions, and nations. Very good ideas, except some deliberately paint Judaeo Christianity as a form of imperialism, exclusive, oppressive, judgmental, hypocritical, and so forth. Sadly, they did have cultural bias actions of nations and Evangelists that hurt people to use as propaganda. But Israel at her best worked with other nations until Jesus Christ, then would be oppressed by the nations they helped or ask help to exist. Jesus Christ mostly preached in Galilee the land of the gentiles so the multi-cultural world would see His Great Light. The best of Church history is forming Liturgy & Witness in other cultures; respecting those cultures, only clarifying things that were anti-Gospel.
The Cold War wasn’t so cold. There were millions of atrocities & crimes against humanity and many civilians oppressed and or killed along side soldiers in places like Korean, Vietnam, Angola, Afghanistan, Mexico, Central America, and South America. The socialist used the true failings of the industrialized West in these conflicts; which we have owned up to, for propaganda against the free enterprise system as a whole.
And they deliberately gave ‘patriotism’ a bad name.

Good intentions does not necessarily make a good philosophy (which is really an objective languages arts logical discipline) but easily emotionally distorted with subjective ‘straw man,’ & other ways arguments; ideologies, and agendas.
So there truly is a secular humanist intellectual elite bias in all venues of society; which truly infiltrated into The Church, as the historical evidence verifies. They received their power, not only by hypocrisy of Judaeo Christians, but lukewarmness as generation after generation more and more let the ideals by The Living God through Christ be choked by the weeds of earthly concerns & exalting recreation. Rapid communication of ambiguous dwelling on emotions & intellectual justification fueled the fire.

This is historically true. Some teach gradualism and concentrating on earthly needs and hiding behind the shades & reflected colors in blue, green, hazel, & brown irises like stained glassed windows; some with full knowledge, some duped. Some purposely put exposing the current ambiguous cloud in a bad light, some are duped with genuine concerns for those Jesus Christ spoke of who belong to Him, led astray; but woe to those who lead them astray, it would be better that a millstone be put around their neck and cast into the sea than what will happen to them on judgment day. The duped ones, confuse compassionate assertive Godly Grace filled participation in Christ to aid one another to receive strength from The Holy Spirit as ‘judgmental,’ or ‘finger pointing,’ or even ‘hate speech,’ due to the clever propaganda. This confusion also relates to the ubiquitous complacent teaching on grave moral concerns that effect families in every way; focusing on social justice, often distorted by enemies of The Church. For example, using the realities of hardships of families to foster an idea of hypocrisy & heartlessness; while these things have been happening all along, often exacerbated by opponents of The Church by radical shifts from reasoned mutual applications to help these families for propaganda purposes. This in itself is morally reprehensible. But the uninformed give into the emotionally charged rhetoric; even many of good will.
Peace.

That phrasing is actually Marxist.
Oh goodness, this was my full quote for actual context:
~98% of Catholics don’t read these forums or listen to Catholic Radio (obviously don’t know actual numbers, but you get the hint). Generally speaking, 100% of their Catholicism comes from weekly Mass (if even that much). If priests want to “save the masses”, the masses need to be saved via Mass 😉
Clearly nothing Marxist here, but thanks for your concern.
