No indeed. Now their family members will simply make that choice for them. You’re not really up on your history, are you? Aktion T4 ring a bell?
Ha. Actually I am very well versed in history; our British schools do a damn site better job at educating us than anything I’ve seen here in the States. Aktion T4 has no bearing on the current situation, unless of course you also subscribe to the belief that apples and oranges are, indeed, one and the same.
Something that I think people have failed to bring up (my poor eyes may have missed it) and you most certainly fail to realize is that intense suffering can be a good thing. It may be a person’s purgatory, that final test of true obedience to the will of the Father. The rewards for perseverance are great.
So say we. But not everyone believes in the redemptive power of suffering and it is wrong to force them to suffer because of our religious beliefs.

She was not given 5 to 10 years. She was making strides, per the staff, with swallowing. You really need to go back and read the full story on her, not just media sound bites.
You are right. I was incorrect; she was not given 5 or 10 years but rather FIFTEEN years to get better. Her cardiac arrest was in 1990, and she remained in her neurologically devastated state until 2005.

So, referencing my prior post, is your position that the reason the Schiavo case is a tragedy is because you think she was going to get better? The weight of the evidence (especially autopsy, 15 years of time, and absence of any real restorative therapy for devastating brain injury) argues very, very strongly against that.

But what are we to live by the weight of the evidence or the will of God. What people seem to forget is God has his reasons for everything, But People dont care what God thinks or does, its money, thats the bottom line. How many people who dont have health care die. Money the root of all evil. How sad human life is worth less and less everyday, and this bill proves it. Pong I have one question for you what do you think of suicide?

Rinnie, what happened to you was that when your dad died it brought back clear memories of Joey’s death.
When my dad died on April 20th I knew that my dad had a peaceful death and went with God. But my grief went back in time to when my adult son died 10yrs ago. My grief counselor said that I was still mourning the loss of my son which must be true because I started crying for his loss too. I am okay now.

Take good care of your mom and be the one who has power of atorney when she gets seriously ill so you can watch over her medical care. When a doctor says he/she wants to do some type of surgery that you don’t approve of… just say,“THAT IS NOT AN OPTION”. Learn to say those words… it will help you a lot in life when it comes to medical care.

Suicide is for people who believe in it. That is their option. There are many people who don’t believe in God or the afterlife. That Bill will be perfect for them.

You are not going to believe this my Mom just gave me Power of attorney last wednesday. And that is exactly what happend to Daddy he had a 4 bypass and 2 valve replacement, he went into Cardiac Arrest and they wanted to pound on his chest after they had him in for surgery 2 times. My mother did just that, she said you will not hurt him one more time. he will go to God. Go to God Andy is what she said, he opened his eyes raised his hands smiled and went to GOd. He was going to be 83. He lived with 4 blocked arteries, for how long who knows and 2 leaking valves, when he went in the Dr said how are you walking, he cleaned his van, car, mowed his grass, changed his oil in his car and van. went in for surgery, walked in mind you, and the next day he went to God. You are right its all comming back, but again im fine with Daddy thats all God, but you know the rest, you have been so good for me, You will never know, I can get over Joey with GOd , its just the nightmare they put us thru, before God took him, and you are right this triggered it. I appologize to all for keep going off the subject.

Pong I have one question for you what do you think of suicide?
I personally belive that God will take us when he is ready, whether it be from disease, natural causes, or otherwise. But I don’t belive that I have the right to tell others that they can’t belive in suicide as a legitimate right; I can only share my own beliefs and leave the rest to God.

Rinnie, tell your Mom she did the right thing with your dad. He didn’t need to be suffering over and over since he was sooo ill from his heart. It took a lot of guts for your Mom to say what she SAID to the doctors. You can do the same for your Mom too.

I had a friend whose Mom had a stroke and the doctors wanted to do some type of surgery. She told the doctors ,“No surgery, that is not an option”. Her mom died a peaceful death.

I think that people are reading our conversations and learning from it. We may be helping others see what we see and have experienced. Lucy

You know Lucy thats one thing she never felt guilty about. It was the hardest thing she ever had to do. But they promised each other no machines, they had him on one and she didnt want it, but they told her to give them 24 hours, well she did, i really think when i think back now he should have went to God right after, he quit responding shortly after surgery. But thats okay we had to try, But my heart goes out to you also Lucy. I will never know you or my Moms pain and hope I never do. After Joey died i lost my baby too. but i never got to see it, I was only 4 months, I thank God he didnt make my baby suffer. And all of have is memories of what could have been, i grieve my baby dont get me wrong, but i believe when you watch them grow up and then lose them its worse. My Mom told me just yesterday she is being guided by the Holy Spirit and by the Spirit of Daddy and Joey, and they are happy, She has really bad days, which is normal, and like you she will never get over her loss, especially Joey, but she will get thru it, thats what i told her. Father said one day GOd only picks special women to carry that cross Lucy, many women never make it, but the ones that do like my mom and you are the chosen ones. But Father said your reward is when you die, you will walk straight into the arms of Jesus the day you die for carrying the cross he asked of you. He is very proud of you and my Mom Lucy i know that. I pray for my Mom every day Lucy and will also keep you in my prayers now too Lucy i will never forget you.

Okay Pong, but then to agree with a bill like that, would it not go against what you believe. I understand what you are saying that you feel people have the right to choose for themselves, and i was like that before too, i still am, but i sure would not agree with a bill to assist anyone to Play GOd. Thats how i see it, and especially when our tax dollars pay for it. You are right i may not stop it, but i sure as heck dont want my money to support something im against. One day Pong 27 years ago, my Mom and Dad moved to Florida, and Father was talking about your choice to end it, etc, and ill never forget he said People you better wake up not just old People you young are who are next. They dont want to take care of us, they want to decide if our life is worth living or not. You give someone power over your life you better know who you are picking, and what you are saying. I thought Father you are crazy, little did i know 22 years ago I would get to watch my brother get it, and nothing I could do. You keep saying his is different no its not. ending someones life is ending someones life. Yes his was an example of abuse, but when you agree to a bill like that you are just asking for more trouble. What ever happened to God will never give you more than you can handle. To say no machines, or no more operations, etc, yes that i agree with, because if thats what the person wants thats fine, because you are still leaving it in Gods hands. but if a person is suffering yes, give them meds to keep then as pain free as possible, but there is no pain NONE that could be worse than what Jesus suffered. Jesus suffered for a reason, did you ever think that if some people didnt suffer they would never go to Jesus. Why does Jesus take some people quick and some take longer to come get them. Only he knows that answer. But dont you think its up to him to take us home, and dont you think you have an obligation to do what the ten commandments say. You should not Kill.

Again, you have not looked into the case enough. Just because 15 years passed between her cardiac arrest and death does not mean 15 years of rehabilative therapy was given.

The nursing home that she was in did not provide her with rehab. The only on going “treatment” was food and hydration.

Ahem. Michael Schiavo provided her with rehabilitative care in the time immediately proceeding the accident up until it was determined that such care was futile and that there was no hope for recovery.

Sorry as long as there is a breath in you there is hope, And as long as you believe in God there is no such thing as hopeless. Jesus can do anything anytimes he wants. People just dont believe in him anymore, If they did they would not try to replace him.

I seem to remember how furious her husband was at the fact the staff had worked with her on their own time and actually got her to where she could start eating ice chips and drinking liquids w/o aspirating or choking.

“Sorry,” but God gave us medical technology for a reason.
