Actually, I don’t think you understood what I was saying.
You have come in with a mindset of “us vs. them” and was so set in it that you missed the person you were responding to was not Catholic.
Anyways since we are on the subject of what someone has to believe to be Catholic, what is wrong with that a Catholic actually having to believe Catholic teaching? What is a Catholic who does not hold Catholic beliefs? What is a Christian in general who does not hold to Christian beliefs? Yes there are beliefs which Catholics believe. They are, after all, Catholic.
Yes, Luther was very Catholic in many ways …
So are all Christians. Some more than others though.
He was learned and devout . Catholics quote him when favorable , even though they find what he did deplorable, because they believe protestants are in the same boat as Catholics,

Either we are the only church Jesus founded , and will remain perfect , or we are not". Hence , protestants are in the same boat ,so we will fall apart when confronted with a possible error -like Luther declaring Mary Immaculate.
You say it is an error. I don’t. You were speaking earlier about infallibility, yet here you speak with an exactitude of the “errors” of Martin Luther. If you are not infallible why should I, Luther, or anyone care what your** opinion **is? What you think is an error?
Trouble is we are not. The truth shall set you free.We are free to see the good in Catholic history ,but free to call out it’s errors because we apply the same judgement to ourselves. I am not tied to denomination, to the perfection of a leader,to history etc .
All of this david and you still can’t answer a simple question; what is wrong with the belief in the Assumption? It is not un-biblical. So what is your problem with it? Is it the binding belief of it? Or the belief itself? If it is the belief itself how are you being any different than the Catholic Church? You take issue with the Church making it a binding belief yet you yourself, by your own arguments, are making it binding on those who follow your beliefs that they reject it. Pot calling the kettle black?
So , I do not fear Luther’s statements , for I do not follow him.
Okay? My point was not whether you follow him but rather Luther was free to believe what he believed under your draconian beliefs?
To me , it makes him all the more credible .He was wrong with his Mariology , but more accurate than Rome’s.
That’s your opinion. Again, why should anyone follow your opinion. And don’t give me the, “it’s the Holy Spirit’s opinion” because Luther would say the same thing
When you both are claiming the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, why should I listen to your opinion?

I would very much agree with Luther if the bold part was correct. In fact, what should we Catholics do with those Catholics who go against Catholic teaching and make gods out of the saints? That is a very good question posed by Luther.
