That really hasn’t been proven.

Just to clarify my position: I’m not a fundamentalist-creationist, either.

I just don’t like to see Darwinian evolution credited as something proved, when in fact there are some pretty gaping holes in the theory. (See Michael Behe’s “Darwin’s Black Box.”)

God bless,

Gryphon
I just remembered this.

atheist:
I am a strong atheist, and a proud one. I was just wondering if any of you ever have doubts about the existence of God, and the credibility of the stories in the Bible? I am interested in this as when I was younger I believed in God, then seriously doubted his existence when I was about 14, and now at 18 I firmly belive that he does not exist. Please reply to this post, this is not a personal attack on any of you.
Just a question, im a firm believer in God and i just want to know why you doubted God in the first place. Did something bad happen to you? You can’t throw away your God because something happened to you. If you think that the world just formed, who was the mastermind behind the magic, who created the first spec of life? Must have been a God after all. Think about that

No, I have not examined all the information about every single religion, but I have examined a lot, enough to convince me that my own path is right for me. However, as I stated, someone who is 18 has hardly had the time to examine sufficient information to make an informed judgement about any religion.
.
Yet most Catholic parents will make practicing Catholicism mandatory for their children and the Church confirms young adults usually around 14. Don’t you see a problem between your statement that you cannot make an informed decision about religion by 18 and these two practices?

This is the original quote - doesn’t say anything about manmade.

Everything you see is from pre-existent material.
I am am not seeing your point.

(Sorry it to so long to post, I’ve been gone for two days.)

Never really ‘had God’ in the first place. I’ve prayed and all that, and have never ‘felt anything’. I find some (not all) of the stories in the Bible to be silly, or just plain horrifing.

The problem I have is that everyone says that “something cannot come from nothing”. But as soon as I say “Okay, who created God then?” the Xain logic breaks down.

In Science nothing is ‘proved’. It’s like courtrrooms where it is beyond a resonable doubt. One thing I credit science with is theat scientists will say “I Dont’ Know” for an answer.

Also, I was tring to show that your grasp of evolution is not great if you can not quote one of the basic parts of the theory correctly…

Look, there’s plenty of evidence that he lived - the existance of the faith based on his name is clearly strong evidence. The Shroud of Turin another mystery of his existance. Further, if we expand the scope of evidence of God’s existence BEYOND Jesus’ life we have abundant evidence of Miracles that are associated directly with Catholicism.

Another interesting article from the faith is the Tilma of Our Lady of Guadalupe. This article has been scientifically tested and nobody can explain how it has held up over the years.

Are you familiar with the INCORRUPTABLE bodies of saints? These are individuals who were DUG UP after they had been burried for a number of years to find that their bodies are completely intact.

You rest your faith in an uncertain theory of NO CREATOR behind this creation. Your faith of NO FAITH can’t explain the unexplained such shows the limits of human knowledge.
The shroud is only about 700 years old

Here’s a fun one. Describe “nothing”. And don’t say it is the absence of something. That is not a definition.

Yes, and how many followers of Jim Jones are there out there today???
The quote was:

“Would so many Die for a lie?”

900+ people died for a lie at jonestown, or do you believe his claims?

JimO:
It is a very Catholic concept that God judges each person based on his/her understanding. The Church has always taught that nobody can be held accountable for something they did not understand or did not have knowledge of. This is termed “invinscible ignorance” and was first elaborated on by Augustine (I believe).

We further believe that everyone has a choice. Nobody is sent to hell (which is not so much a lake of fire as eternal separation from God, the source of all we consider good). C.S. Lewis calls the “fires” of hell the “lights of heaven seen from a distance.” The way I understand it, if someone spends their entire life in a selfish pursuit of pleasure with no regard for the need of others, for example, that person will likely be no less selfish when they die and will probably be incapable of abiding the presence of God. Sadly, many people fit this description.
then why all the ‘lake of fire’ lines in the scripture?

Writer:
You raise some interesting questions, but I would suggest that is not God who places the non-believer into hell, but the non-believer who, by his own free will, decides for himself to not follow God. God simply allows the non-believer to make this decision for himself. It is the job of the Christian to try to make others aware that this choice is real and serious. A writer named C.S. Lewis was a strong atheist until a Catholic by the name of J.R.R. Tolkien (and some other friends from the Inklings) persuaded him to take another look at faith. A good book for you to consider reading would be *Mere Christianity, *if you’re interested in an ex-atheist’s perspective on Christ.
Ah so it is not the bank robber who shot the bank clerk, it was her own free will to blame, because she didn’t hand over the cash like he told her to. It is all her fault she got shot.

Thank God I grew up.
This is the kind of stuff that caused me to start posting here. I Imagine that if I said “Oh, I can’t believe that I really believed all that stuff about Christianity. I’m glad I grew up.” I would get quite a number of posts that would take me to task…

If you read the bible, it’s says that God was there since the beginning and before.Someone Must have started creating things or nothing would be created. God was just there, only a person with great faith would believe that. And all the storys in the bible are wonderful, you just don’t understand them. I’ve yet to find a ‘Horrifying’ or ‘Silly’ in the Bible.

Oh yes the Raping of 32,000 virgins at God’s command is ‘wonderful’. So is the 42 children being ripped to peices by two shebears.

And how about the cursing of the fig tree? That’s like cursing summer cause it isn’t snowing… Sounds silly to me.

What’s your point Booger? To prove that God was a mass murderer?
You’ve interpreted it wrong… It is Man’s fault in the first place, not God’s. Man does wrong. All the punishments from God(were given because the idiots sinned) stopped when Jesus Christ died for our sins. He died because he LOVED us. That stopped the punishments and it showed love, BUT man continued to sin and do wrong. You can try all you like, but NOTHING WILL MAKE ME CHANGE my belief. YOU AND ALL THE OTHER ATHEISTS HAVEN’T READ THE BIBLE. YOU TAKE THE PARTS WHERE IT SPEAKS OF EVIL AND COMBINE IT TOGETHER ON ONE WEBPAGE, SO IT LOOKS LIKE GOD IS AN IDIOT AND A MASS MURDERER! SHAME ON YOU!!! :tsktsk:

Ummm? Alright. I interpreted it? No, the guys that gathered the verses interpreted it. You sound like a fundy. “I believe because I believe and that’s that!” Oh well, I guess all of that time that we atheists spent reading our Bibles never actually happened.

Podo, you should be glad that the website that I was going to post originally doesn’t work anymore.
