I have plenty of atheist/agnostic/non-religous friends who are good people. I find it difficult to believe this is insta-hell for them. Any thoughts?

Yes, lifelong atheists can go to Heaven.

We don’t decide what a good person is. People are lawful and charismatic and pleasant for a million and one different reasons and many of them are selfish reasons.

The Beatific Vision is by the compassion and mercy of God.

Salvation can only be found through Jesus Christ. If they have knowledge of Him and still choose to reject Him, then they are damned.

Could you please define “knowledge of him”? Everyone has heard of him and some people have advantages.

That probably won’t apply to your friends if they have the internet.

Praying for the salvation of your friends with devotion and constancy would be more effective than hoping on a loophole.

Yes but I mean I was born into the Catholic religion and raised in it, whilst they were born agnostic and atheist so they’re still good people, they just don’t believe in God/god we know of. Are most of you going to tell me if you weren’t born Christian but instead Buddhist or atheist, you are sure you’d end up in the religion?

They always have the chance to convert and nothing stops them from finding more about Catholicism except themselves.

If they have had exposure to Christianity and have the option of following Jesus Christ and yet still choose not to, then they are damned.

If they were some islander in the Pacific who was never exposed to the Gospel, then God would judge them based on their merits, giving them a greater chance of being saved for being a “good person.”

“Good person” has a different meaning under a Christian context compared to the secular definition.

Yes but you must understand. We were born into this religion, and raised upon it. We have a reason to believe in Jesus. But to them, there are so many religions that why would they believe this one. They have no reason to. I encourage you to take a step back reader and put yourself in the atheists shoes. How would you feel?

And there are tons of people raised as Christians who leave it despite knowing what it teaches. Being raised in it is not enough.
But to them, there are so many religions that why would they believe this one.
Do you think Christians are not aware of the plurality of religious and chose it anyway?

I wouldn’t care. If I believed Christianity was false, then I wouldn’t care what they’d say about my fate, because I would believe their beliefs are false, along with that of every other religion.

I was not born into this religion. I read my way into Catholicism after years of militant atheism and some satanism. I wanted to seek out knowledge and truth and that lead to the Church and Jesus Christ. I chose Christ above my godless view of the world and they can do the same thing. If they go their entire lives without any inkling of knowledge of Christ or Christianity, then they would be judged on their adherence to natural law.

I’m not risking my friendship and the positive affects I can have morally on these people because I DOUBT I can convince them to convert. It isn’t fair for me to tell them what they should believe or pressure them.

Knowledge of Jesus doesn’t just mean they are aware that Christianity exists and that they could Google it to find out more. It means knowledge sufficient to make them culpable for ignoring it. Like, enough knowledge that they should be convinced, or are convinced and obstinately refuse to follow.

They have access to that knowledge and they are culpable for not finding out.

I understand we choose it anyway. But most of us are raised to choose it. It isn’t fair to those who aren’t who have no reason to believe this.

How come they have no reason to believe in Christianity? Because they weren’t raised in it? If Christianity is true, you think being raised in it is what it takes to accept it for what it is? An Atheist can accept science because it’s true without having a degree in any of the sciences, but an Atheist can’t accept Christianity as true because they weren’t raised in it?

What knowledge? And how can they be culpable if they have never been given a diverse reason to believe. How would you feel if I was you’re friend and told you “hey you should convert to (insert religion) because you must believe in (insert prophet/god)” there isn’t much of a reason for them to choose this religion over that one or any of the other ones.

There are many arguments that can be used to prove why Christianity is true.
