(I hope he includes the one about not seething a kid in its mother’s milk. (Exodus 23:19) Lots of people leave that one out. 🙂 )

Some Jewish scholars believe that specific prohibitory law, written out of context with the passages that surround it, has been seriously misinterpreted ever since to indicate there should be a separation of meat and milk products as part of the kosher laws.

There are several opposing interpretations. Two of these include not boiling a kid in its OWN mother’s milk, which stands as a specific prohibition not meant to be generalized to other animals and saying nothing about boiling a kid in ANOTHER mother’s milk. A different interpretation, this one proposed by Maimonides, is that the prohibition was really against idolatry and had little to do with dietary law. In particular, the Canaanites had a ritual practice that involved boiling goats in their mother’s milk, and Jews were forbidden to engage in similar idolatrous customs.

Besides, it has been pointed out that in Genesis 18, Abraham mixes meat with milk products when he serves his guests. However, the rebuttal to this argument is that this behavior took place before the Law was given to Moses. Nonetheless, it is said in the Talmud that Abraham instinctively obeyed the entire Law even before it was written by Moses. (The Law is thought to have existed forever, including before the creation of the universe.) Another explanation is that Abraham knew he was serving Gentiles, not Jews, so it was permissible to prepare such a meal so long as he did not partake in the event. Yet another possibility is that Abraham served the dairy food portion PRIOR to the meat, which is permissible according to kosher law (except for hard cheeses).

It must have been, what, a few hundred centuries since anyone had to look that one up as a punishment. Have you encountered many Christians who have told you they’ve punished someone in this manner??? :confused:

Notice that belief is still required… in that case, knowledge is still missing.
Oh well… what’s to be expected of a philosopher/priest who knows a thing or two about physics, but has been out of touch for a while?

My circle of friends stands as not knowing about what happens prior (if this word makes sense in the context) to the Big Bang.

Are you wanting to equate belief in the reviews people made of a book with belief in the existence of an extraordinary being who may have kick-started the Universe, but leaving so little evidence of it that it’s practically the same as not existing, however people ~5 thousand years ago managed to get in touch with it, but mistook it for several such beings, each in charge of a different natural “force”?

I would and do accept “I don’t know” because I say this every day. This is the mystery of faith that we believe (without any scientific proof) every day. Our belief in God includes our belief that He created all things and keep us in continued existence through His Will. Yes, no one on earth today really knows how the universe started but Christians believe. We believe. God bless you. 👍

This is exactly why the Incarnation came into the world. To explain to us the answer as to why we are here, how we should live our lives and give us a gift of redemption by demonstrating the ultimate gift of His sacrifice of Himself for our sins. Oh and He also left a community of believers behind with the instruction to teach His Word to all nations and bring them into the faith through the Sacraments. It would seem that God did not abandon His people after all. The evidence is all around you, the Body of Christ, us.
