Why should it offer a discount?
Because the New York Times is not only the most anti-Catholic mass market newspaper in the USA, it is the heart of of secularist movement.
Bye the bye, the man and woman who placed the ad are notorious anti-religionists.
He is an ex-big time Evangalist minister of music from one of the TV mega-churches, who, after he lost his job when the church went bust, found he could make an excellent living preaching atheism. He is a phony of classic stature, but remember, a dangerously evil phony.
We must pray for all who fall into his grasp.

FRONTAL ASSAULT ON CATHOLICISM
Catholic League president Bill Donohue comments as follows:
Never has there been a more vicious anti-Catholic advertisement in a prominent American newspaper than the one in today’s New York Times by Freedom From Religion Foundation (FFRF). The demonization of Catholicism is palpable.
] is the Catholic Church’s opposition to the Health and Human Services mandate forcing Catholic non-profits to include abortion-inducing drugs, contraception and sterilization in its insurance plans. Its real agenda is to smear Catholicism. Here is how the ad begins: “It’s time to quit the Roman Catholic Church. Will it be reproductive freedom, or back to the Dark Ages?”

The ad blames the Catholic Church for promoting “acute misery, poverty, needless suffering, unwanted pregnancies, overpopulation, social evils and deaths.” It says the bishops are “launching a ruthless political Inquisition” against women. It talks about “preying priests” and corruption “going all the way to the top.” In an appeal to Catholic women, it opines, “Apparently, you’re like the battered woman who, after being beaten down every Sunday, feels she has no place else to go.”

FFRF is led by a husband and wife team, Annie Laurie Gaylor and Dan Barker. Fortunately for Gaylor, her mother did not follow through on the advice she gave women in her book, Abortion Is a Blessing.

Not a single Catholic who reads this ad will be impelled to leave the Church. That is not the issue (Catholicism, unlike many other religions, is actually growing in the U.S., and worldwide). The issue is the increase in hate speech directed at Catholics.

Nothing will stop Catholics from demanding that the Obama administration respect their First Amendment rights, this vile assault by FFRF notwithstanding. Why the Times allowed this ad is another issue altogether.

NEW YORK TIMES BOWS TO MUSLIMS
Catholic League president Bill Donohue comments as follows:
On March 9, the New York Times ran a viciously anti-Catholic ad placed by the radical atheist group, Freedom From Religion Foundation (FFRF); to read it, and our response, click here. In response, anti-Islamist activist Pamela Geller decided to submit an ad to the Times that played off the FFRF ad by changing the wording to make it look like an attack on Islam. For example, she asked Muslims to quit their religion because they oppress so many people.
Neil Munro of The Daily Caller has a splendid article on Geller’s courageous gambit today [click http://dailycaller.com/2012/03/14/times-nixes-anti-islam-ad-runs-anti-catholic-ad/”]here
to read it]. She was turned down by the Times. It was rejected, they said, because “the fallout from running this ad now could put U.S. troops and/or civilians in the [Afghan] region in danger.”

The Times’ rationale for denying Geller’s ad is sound: as a veteran, I am opposed to unnecessarily putting our armed forces in harm’s way. But I wonder why it takes fear to impel the New York Times not to run bigoted ads. Wouldn’t ethics suffice? It certainly wasn’t enough when they decided to run the FFRF ad assaulting Catholic sensibilities.

It would be wrong to merely pick on the Times. We need to have a national discussion on the way the elite media extend a privileged position to some sectors of our society, while failing to extend the same protections to other sectors.

Fortunately no one reads the New York Times so no one will see it.

😃

Edit:

I must point out, atheists must proselytize, most do not have children.

Pamela Geller was struck by that ad The New York Times ran the other day, “It’s Time To Quit The Catholic Church“, an “open letter to ‘liberal’ and ‘nominal’ Catholics”. So she sent in her own ad, “It’s Time To Quit Islam“, an “open letter to ‘moderate’ Muslims”. Analogous artwork, same pitch, only difference being the intended target. The Times’ Senior Vice-President for Corporate Hogwash called to tell Miss Geller that – surprise! surprise! – they were way less eager to rush this one into print:
Bob Christie, Senior Vice President of Corporate Communications for the New York Times, just called me to advise me that they would be accepting my ad, but considering the situation on the ground in Afghanistan, now would not be a good time, as they did not want to enflame an already hot situation. They will be reconsidering it for publication in “a few months.”
So I said to Mr. Christie, “Isn’t this the very point of the ad? If you feared the Catholics were going to attack the New York Times building, would you have run that ad?”
Thus the courage of the secular left: If you’re going to be “provocative”, it’s best to do it with people who can’t be provoked. Pamela is right. If you want to be treated with respect by The New York Times and the rest of the multiculti establishment, make it clear you’re willing to kill them. That’s an interesting message to send.

The above response was good agitprop. 👍

Wouldnt mind running it in my own local paper for fun. 😉

I was hoping that the atheists would also run the same ad for Muslims to leave Islam. That way, there would be fewer atheists to deal with. 😃 It would seem that the person would have grounds on suing the New York Times for religious discrimination in discretionary acceptance of ads that attack one religion versus another. It has nothing to do with the war or troops since the NYT is not involved is not a government institution that can dictate policy. It’s a commercial transaction.

*For a newspaper like the NYT to be associated with such low types is a disgrace and very, very sad. One would think that it mattered to pursue truth. The Catholic Church threatens no-one. On the contrary the Church has its doors wide open for all. The Church does so much good and excludes no-one.

The NYT is only doing itself damage - history will be the judge.

Cinette:confused: *

I think the Archdiocese of New York should take out a full page ad in the NYT welcomeing all lapsed Catholics home for Easter.
However, does anyone want to bet that the NYT would not take the ad?
Its just like the owners of the Empire State Building would not honor Mother Theresa or Cardinal Dolan in lights on the ESB, yet they honored Red China, etc.

What motive would the NYT have for refusing an ad from the archdiocese? Isn’t their money just as green as the money from the Freedom From Religion Foundation? And unlike Pamela Geller’s ad, the safety of American troops would not be jeopardized.

Besides, the USCCB ran a full page ad in the New York Times about three months ago.

As for the Empire State Building, that seems to be an unrelated issue. The New York Times does not own the building. And the owners of the ESB do not own the New York Times.
