So, is praying in mass a sin?

That passage means the following: “Private prayer stands in contrast to the false piety of hypocrites. It was Jesus’ own custom to withdraw from the public pray alone to the Father. Private prayer is a complement to communal prayer, not a rejection of it.” (Ignatius Catholic Study Bible, New Testament)

To be clear about my point: When someone says, in the context of preventing communal prayer due to covid19, that “Didn’t Jesus tell us to find a private place to pray?” Meaning, its OK to do away with communal prayer, my answer is “NO”, that is not what he is saying.

And Jesus and his disciples attended synagogue on the Sabbath.
 
Your response seemed to suggest that Jesus never ever said that one should pray in private for any reason.

Well, my views are empirical. You didn’t see the pastor who wanted to burn a Koran? Officials of all stripes had to work to dissuade him. A religion does not have to be anti anything – it can just be for its own theology. The Black Muslims never learned that.
 
I get annoyed when people say Jesus didn’t say something that is very clearly written for us to see. It is the reason that we Catholics are often accused of not knowing the Bible, in spite of having it read every day at Mass.

Yes, both are important. I don’t know if one is more important than the other. But not being able to get to Mass is not the end of the world. Lot’s of people don’t get to go to Mass because they are ill or because there is no service near them. Throughout history, there have been times when people had no priest available to them for years.

And if one goes to Mass when the circumstances are high that they might be spreading a disease that could kill others does not seem to be what Jesus would want. But that is just my opinion that this qualifies under CCC2181 as a reason to miss Mass.

Drive-in parking lot Mass is not the least bit dangerous in any way, but Leftist Governors will use COVID-19 as an excuse to ban churchgoers.

The coronavirus was in the midst of its peak infection( first peak after today’s announcement).
There were events held on Palm Sunday they didn’t want happening the next week.
