I can think of a few popular and immoral things to do in this age. Society doesn’t view it as such but it is…

As a wise man once said about slavery:
It is with justice, we believe, that the condition of slavery is the result of sin. And this is why we do not find the word ‘slave’ in any part of Scripture until righteous Noah branded the sin of his son with this name. It is a name, therefore, introduced by sin and not by nature.
-St Augustine, The City of God, 19: 15
Augustine said that slavery was the result of the Fall, but he also thought that the universe did have a natural structure that gave some men authority over others (meaning regal power probably)… that implies that slaves are slaves because of their sin.
That quote places the blame on the slaves. Much like how he believes masters should beat their slaves to discipline them. Maybe step away from Augustine’s views on slavery.Alex337:![]()
the condition of man making slaves of each other is a result of sin coming into this world. In a perfect world, slavery would not exist… that implies that slaves are slaves because of their sin.
Does my edited post say anything different? That quote places the blame on the slaves
PreciselyI thought it meant that things like slavery exist because of sin.
YesThat’s not what he said. He said that slavery exists because of sin, not that it’s a punishment for the sins of individual slaves (the same is true of any affliction).
The thing is it still read as the slaves sin being what made slavery necessary. Otherwise he would have went on to tell people not to enslave people rather than how to properly beat their slaves.Alex337:![]()

All frankness after seeing some of your views on other threads I don’t particular want to discuss things with you.@Alex337
Is your objection to the use of corporal punishment, or only to slavery itself?
Slavery is the result of the fall. Some people have more authority then others, the idea of hierarchy is in heaven and earth. The thing is it still read as the slaves sin being what made slavery necessary. Otherwise he would have went on to tell people not to enslave people rather than how to properly beat their slaves.
Owning. Slaves. Is. Wrong.Alex337:![]()

Also we went through this. Beating slaves is wrong, disciplining in general however (without using unnecessary force), is just
