The other quote states slavery is not given to us by God but by the fall so I actually have to see the majority of his writings to conclude what we are debating even holds any value

This does not speak about whipping at all. Rather it speaks about punishing sons and slaves which should not be condemned because punishing someone is acceptable. Slavery is not acceptable anymore, but what I just read seems to show that Augustine is not cruel to slaves and treats them as human
