I was at a daily Mass a couple years ago as a new convert, where the priest clearly was half dead from the flu. He was leaning so far over the altar just to prop himself up, that we were worried the cloth would slide and dump him on the floor. After the consecration, etc, he managed to stumble back to his chair and collapse. That left the deacon holding both chalice and ciborium, and he was staring at me. Well, I was a very new convert, and besides that, I hate doing anything important like that without a dry run. I had no idea how to properly go up there and take the chalice, so I just looked down at my feet. It was a small group and everybody could tell he was looking at me, so they all hesitated. Another lady finally did go up and rescue him.
