So then you’re doubting the story about the threat of his termination ?

Fine, address those who expressed support for his termination. They apparently believe it to be true

Jim

Why should I address them? This is a thread for me to give my opinion to the OP. I have zero need to convince any other posters, nor do I particularly care about doing so.

I get what you’re saying, but it’s really hard not to see it as encouraging a sin. If someone said they were going to steal something, would you say, “Well, stealing is wrong, but if you do it, here’s how to not get caught.”?

That’s not harm reduction, that’s something else.

Typically harm reduction applies to the classic street vices: gambling, sex, and drugs.

Harm reduction, like many things, has both its opponents and proponents.

I am personally an outspoken proponent of it.

I’m completely confused as to what you are getting at or why you are even arguing with me.

If you’re annoyed at me for not giving this lady the benefit of the doubt that her ex-boyfriend is telling the 100 percent honest truth, you are living in la-la land. As a woman I’ve certainly seen my share of this type situation among my peers over the years and my detector is going off.

I’ll leave it at that.

I’m only responding to your reply to me, that I shouldn’t take the OP’s post as true.

Jim

Let’s be clear here. We are getting this story secondhand from the baby momma that the man broke up with.

He could have made the entire thing up. A man who is lame enough to ditch out on his unborn child is certainly capable of lying to provide himself with an excuse.
This was my first thought too. It sounds fishy to me.

If she wants the full story, she and the boyfriend should sit down together with the administrator at the school to discuss it.

Also, he could take his chances with his employer and stay with her. He could take a different job and remain with her. Or he could marry her and remain with her.

Breaking up was not the only choice.

Something just sounds OFF regarding the breaking up part. Not about the fired for extramarital sex part just the demand to break up part. That sounds like he made it up, frankly. I don’t see how that fits into any morality clause at all.

I can field this in the Canadian context.

Is it “illegal” on its face? No. A religious employer in Canada can impose a moral code which prohibits certain behaviour and imposes penalties for such behaviour.

However, in this case, I’m sorry to say that either your partner or his school is being untruthful. The breach in behaviour has already taken place: you have the evidence of that. If the school wanted to dismiss him for having a child out of wedlock, they are free to do so. Refusing to associate with you, however, because you are carrying his child would not be consistent with any Catholic teaching and enforcing a contract that encouraged fathers to abandon their children would be inconsistent with public policy. It would thus fail to meet the tests imposed by the court.

Hope that helps.

I really don’t see the difference from a moral standpoint. Going to jail (for stealing), getting pregnant outside of wedlock/STD’s (from having sex) are all the consequences of sin. From a moral standpoint, I really don’t see the difference in showing someone who wants to steal how to not get caught and telling someone who wants to have sex to make sure and use a condom. I see the difference from a secular standpoint but not from a moral/religious standpoint.

Seriously you two, take this to private messages or start a new thread. You’re just derailing this thread.
