So many seem to compromise their convictions for the almighty dollar. Well done baker lady.

There is a great difference between not providing service because someone is homosexual and not participating in a homosexual’s grave sin. I do not think the baker did this because the couple was homosexual. Had one partner asked the baker for a birthday cake for her partner, it would have been an entirely different matter. I personally that if she had refused to make a birthday cake on the grounds that they were homosexual would have indeed been discriminatory. However, they asked her to help them celebrate a “gay marriage” which by nature of the homosexual acts attached is completely opposed to God’s natural and moral law. There is no indication of “gay-hating”, homophobia, or any other trendy phrase that applies to people who do not tolerate the sin of homosexual sex. There is simply a woman who is living her faith as best she can.

Urg, Firefox. I hit backspace and it took me back a page, and I lost my post.

Anyways, I have changed my position on this matter. It is unethical to provide a service which contributes to sin – in this case, inappropriate celebration of a sinful disgrace of Holy Matrimony. She was not refusing them the cake because of their sexual orientation, she was refusing them the cake because the ceremony is against her religion. It is not Catholic to refuse somebody something just because of their orientation. And in this case, she was not doing such a thing.

Doesn’t matter how she knew; it changes nothing in my post Catharina. Of all that I wrote, that was the one thing you could find that bore comment? Really?
My goodness - and here I thought
you were interested in FACTS.

Silly me.
Wonderful you?

When people aren’t able to make a logical argument that refutes the points being presented to them, they tend to nit pick at insignificant details.

I’ve seen it all too often around here, particularly in “modesty” threads.
So untrue - so irrelevant.

The FACT is that the Catholic Church
does not in any way support gay unions.

Baker-lady wins.

Yep - and applause for her!

Ahhhhhhh, reflection helps.
Now you’ve GOT it.

We all agree that the Church doesn’t support gay unions. No one is saying otherwise, and no one is claiming to support gay unions.

The point some of us are trying to get across is that making a cake for a paying customer’s wedding doesn’t mean you support the wedding… it just means you’re a cake making business and you make cakes for people who pay you to make cakes.

… and Baker Lady said it VERY well.

IF you CHOOSE to do so.

Lol where in Church teaching does it say that 2 Lesbians = Satan?
He that committeth sin is of the devil 1Jo 3:8
He who is doing the sin is of the devil YLT
The one who practices sin is of the devil NET

practices / doing / commiteth > continual nature of the participle…one who keeps on sinning, which is what sexually active homosexual committed partners do, they don’t ever (in most cases) stop their sinning, unrepentant in their sin, they are of the devil, satanic… sounds harsh, but thats what the book says (btw, same thing goes for unmarried sexually active hetero partners, unrepentant fornicators).

🙂

Seriously, IMHO, if one wants to discriminate in such a manner, provided it is permitted by law, the business should be set up in a manner where the moral attitude/beliefs of the company is obvious. For example, the company could be named “Catholic Wedding Cakes,” “Christian Cakes,” etc., this way there is no ambiguity on the matter. There’s nothing worse than having a name for a company that’s seems to be inviting, then walking in the door and told to get lost.
Heard yesterday that although federal law does not include protection of sexual orientation, Iowa state law does, so she may have broken her state’s laws by refusing to bake the cake. There was a photography business somewhere (Washington? Oregon?) who refused service to a gay wedding and did get sued. I suspect these cases, when taken to court, are also used by the militant gay/lesbian community to intimidate other businesses into serving them (“See what happens when you refuse us service? Better just to ‘tolerate’ our perversion than to be sued…”).

The gay community is usually very big on sticking to their own kind…“Keep your money in the community” sort of thing - you’d think there would be a gay bakery who would be happy to do this job. If the baker agreed and the cake was wonderful, she’d have gotten referrals and then she’d have more and more gay customers. Damned if you do, damned if you don’t.
