I wish to say a few things:
- Though I disagree with his connection between celibacy and pedophilia, he dedicates only one sentence to the idea. The rest is about the priest shortage, and therefore I find it unfair to automatically slam him for a single sentence.
- I am reading many replies that say “if he is fed up with being celibate than why did he join?!” Well, I do not think he views celibacy as inherently bad. I highly doubt he entered the priesthood hating celibacy, indeed why would he do that!? Instead he seems to offering his analysis of events and offering his opinion.
- There seems to be little fellowship in this discussion. He is part of the body of christ (and if you do not view him as so, he is still a person!). It upsets me to see such strong US v. THEM mentality rising up out of this article. To myself Curran’s article seems to be quite humble and respectful. Regardless of his past attitudes in addressing the Church, in this instance to be offering his opinions very much out of love.
