Is it better that they go to Hell rather than be reached with the Good News from a protestant?
It could be the Protestant leading them away from the Church that sets them on the road to Hell!

I’ll bet you don’t even realize how offensive that comment is, do you?
Well of course kaycee does!!! kaycee has been here long enough to know what is and is not offensive, what and what not to say, how and how not to say it.

I was a bit surprised by Kaycee’s comment. Usually, he is a pretty polite poster. I agree with little that he says but I have always respected him. I am hoping that he just had a bad day and will come back and reword his statement.😦

Thanks Deb. I think some of my statements were taken the wrong way and also I was reacting in anger to what i saw as mercygates slams to fellow believers of mine. Forgive me. :o It could be our perspective, but I have never seen converts of convenience in the evangelical arena. I have also never seen sharing the Gospel to “trick” catholics and to score points for sport, or to be malicous. I know there a “jack chicks” in the world but condem that strongly. Maybe Mercygate is talking about converts to dead Lutheran, Methodist, or Universalist churches, but I have never observed that kind of behavior and condem it. I certainly did not say Catholics are going to Hell! . My point is, I understand you believe in Baptismal regeneration. But I dont believe you think that only Baptism by water gets one to heaven. There also has to be Faith that produces good works, or you might say Faith and works. Apple trees sprout apples, Fig trees produce figs, Christians produce good works. All I am saying is that CINO’s (Catholic in name only) need to be evangelized like everyone else, don’t they? If I talk to a Catholic who cant tell me the first thing about his Faith, do I not tell him about the Savior? “Today is the day of salvation” If he dies overnight without hearing the Gospel, will God look kindly on me for “not interfering”? I think you have to admit the Church is not doing a good job at evangelizing its own. Rom 10:13 “For everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. 14 But how can they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how can they believe without hearing about Him?”
E.E.N.S.:
It could be the Protestant leading them away from the Church that sets them on the road to Hell!
A Isn’t a Catholic in name only, really on that road already? I dont think hearing the Gospel will hurt. 😉

Peace <><

The Catholic Church is doing at least as good a job of “evangelising their own” as any n-C denom out there. I see great many squared away Catholics and this site helps make more by the hour it seems. It cracks me up when I talk to n-Cs who try to tell me stuff about my church and I blow them outta the water by charitably showing that not only are they wrong about the Catholic Church, but they are following errant winds of doctrine that don’t align with what the early church wrote that they believed either. Maybe… just maybe someday n-Cs will stop buying into everything that someone says about Catholicism and talk to Priests and Catholics who really know the faith and get the straight dope. Until then, we who know the faith well have our work cut out for us. We’re taught not to be “sheep stealers”, but so far as I am concerned, if n-Cs seek to evangelize us, they open the door for reciprocation and I will most definitely give as good as I get.

“Anything less, just wouldn’t be civilized.”

But if we Catholics actively attempt to evangelize n-Cs the way he seems to feel is okay for them to do to us they are all up in arms about it. Double standard? You betcha!

I’ll say this though, on my lamest days away from the church, I was one of the most upfront and no fear “witnesses” they’ve ever seen. Now, I’m an n-C’s worst nightmare. A Catholic who knows both sides and all their “evangelism tools” and uses them on them to show the errors of the reformed belief systems. I’m not the least afraid of sharing my faith and I figure that if I’m fair game to them then they are also fair game to me.

I know Christianity and Catholicism is IT. If ya make a statement about our most holy faith ya better know what your talkin’ about, instead of something that you heard about Catholicism from somewhere else. And if you used to be Catholic and converted to something else, (shame on ya like it was shame on me) you blessed well better tell the truth about the faith, or I’m gonna make you look like Ned in the first reader & show where you got ripped off and need to come home.

I’m curious what changed your mind? I think you remarked earlier that you were lied to. Really?

Wow! What incredible ignorance in their discussion. What outrageous statements that have no basis in truth, e.g. the “explanation” of Orthodoxy that says among other things the Orthodox do not believe in transubstantiation. Not be uncharitable - but such ignorance repulses me.

Forgive my ignorance, but what is going on with this? Is this other forum a Catholic forum?

Two words lead people to leave the Catholic Church…

Soft Gospel.

When the Catholic Church makes people uncomfortable with the hard, solid Truth of the Gospel, people will be willing to find heaven the easy way. Fortunately, Christ showed us that taking the hard way leads to redemption.

I see it this way…if one tells me that they believe the Bible is the Word of God and that they are “New Testament Christians” then I expect them to be honest in their adherence to Biblical truth. Yet whenever it comes to Catholicism…they cop this tude that we are wrong and deny things like the Eucharist which is baffling to me. Most I find are just not being honest…and that makes it lies.

I think that a great many n-C ministers attack the Catholic faith because if they were ever to admit that we are right then the ramifications, both spiritually and career-wise are extreme.

I really believe that those who know their Bibles well, also know deep down that there are passages that they avoid because those passages stand out as clear scriptural basis for Catholic beliefs. I know that I had to read around those passages for over 34 years, because there was no other answer. And they were never taught from in the churches that I was part of. Now we see them not taught by n-Cs as to what they mean, but to what they don’t mean…Catholicism. In my eyes, that is just plain dishonesty.

Hi MS!
I have spent the last 5 years studying on my own. I do have a list of great resources that are available to you as well and am happy to share them with you.

Catholic Home Study Service has a “dead brill” series of FREE Catholic courses sponsored by the Knights of Columbus. I started with “Christ’s Mother and Ours” and “We Believe”. There are no losers in this lot at all, at all, and when you finish the listed courses ask if there are any more they offer.

San Juan Catholic Seminars has a series of Beginning Apologetics books that are both comprehensive and affordable that have been invaluable. Mine are all marked up and highlighted as I studied them and I seem to keep 3 of the 7 of them right here by the comp for ready reference, but much of it is committed to memory because it just seems to stick with you.
These are also available here in the CA online store I think.

The Bible Christian Society has great apologetics audios available for postage.

The Mary Foundation has FREE Catholic audios and cassettes which also are great. Their Mary Foundation Rosary CD is one of my favorites, but again…no losers here.

Other folks may know of more sources, but these are some of my personal favorites.

Last but not least is a commitment to personal Bible reading. If one has never read the Word of God all the way through (at least!) once then you are really messing up. It helps to read it daily and in fact the church offers a plenary indulgence for those who do. (I laughed at Mass when Father said that most of us should be familiar with the miracle of the loaves and fishes, and if not “shame on you”. Of course he’s right!)

If you don’t have at least a paperback copy of the CCC and haven’t read it…again you are messing up. It’s not nearly as dry as people make it out to be, in fact I have never seen a more eloquent and comprehensive statement of Christian beliefs anywhere.

So there ya go my friend. May God bless you as you seek to better know our most holy faith.
Pax tecum,

Lol. I get jokes.

Incidentally, the guy from “Christians evangelizing Catholics” responded to my impetuous note. He said he’d take anything inaccurate off his website if I could prove it to him, basically. I think I’m going to take him on. Don’t worry though–I won’t be TOO triumphalistic. 😉

Let me reiterate what I meant when I said it seems Protestants are terrified of us but we could care less about them. That is my feelings. I mean, I don’t go to Mass and hear Fr. Ralph at beautiful St. Louis Bertrand in Louisville, Ky go on a rampage about how Protestants are going to Hell! He never tells us to go out and Evangelize Protestants. So why do so many Protestant Preachers feel the need to Evangelize Catholics? All this does is make people angry. At least it does me when you are a strong Catholic and have a backbone. Like on another topic on the other denomination board. Why are these Protestant missionaries going into Mexico and Latin America trying to sway people to leave Catholicism??

I don’t see many Catholic missionaries heading into the rural South and Appalachia trying to evangelizd them.

Maybe we shoud?? Maybe we should go into the backwoods of the Rural South where they are 99.9"% Protestant and Evangelize. They would be Furious!!

This particular post is closed. Post at your own peril. There are many who post there and just bring up the usual Cathlic issues; praying TO Mary, Indulgenses, Saints etc.

Funny thing is that right now the South is where Catholicism is growing most rapidly in the US!

I understand what you are saying and it’s true. It’s not that Catholics do not care about them, but that we don’t steal sheep from other Christian folds. If one feels led by the Holy Spirit to look into Catholicism, then we are all about helping and giving good answers, but by and large you will not hear Catholic clergy or the rank and file Catholic attack other churches from the pulpit or anywhere else. The same cannot be said for all n-Cs…and I have often heard preachers from their pulpit attack Catholic beliefs and other churches as well. In the case of Catholics, it is usually not with any real understanding of what they are talking about, but something that they read or heard about Catholicism from another misinformed or misinforming source.

All discussions with anyone should be bathed in prayer. My own favorite is the Divine Mercy Chaplet.
Pax vobiscum,

I’ve often thought that it would be a riot for a couple of sharply-dressed Catholics to go door-to-door. When the homeowners found out that they were Catholics and not JW’s or Mormons, I think the comedic value would be priceless!

“You’re CATHOLICS? Catholics go door-to-door?”

To which I might answer, “You bet! Now how’s about we drink a pint of this Guinness I brought and we can talk about the power of the rosary?”

I maintain that this could be an extremely effective method of evangelization, (though you’d have to keep the free Guiness to a minimum).
