I’m glad you straightened me out. I thought statues were persons. Golly, gee, what a shock to find out they’re not!.

To these brothers and sisters a statue does indeed represent the true Virgin Mary. Their point about idolatry should be made against idolators, not Catholics. Catholics worship the one and only Triune God. If Catholics worshipped idols, he – and you – would have a point.

“Something against whom they believe to be an idol” is your personificiation of plaster and paint.

These brothers do indeed have something against the Virgin Mary – I, being born and bred a Protestant, grew up believing as they do. I used to pray on my knees for you idol-worshipping Catholics. They get the idea from a misreading of Sacred Scripture, from a practice called proof-texting. This is the preacher’s opinion, it is not fact.

God judges everyone by their heart. Hatred for Christ’s Mother is deep in this guy’s heart, and he’s teaching it to others. His ridicule of Catholics and Catholicism is bigotry in the highest degree. He and his congregation need our prayers.

It is said by many that anti-Catholicism is the last socially acceptable prejudice left in America. Amen.

I am a former Protestant myself.
I never had anything against the Virgin Mary while I grew up, and I have met so many Evangelicals that say: “I know you say you don’t worship her, but it sure looks like your songs and prostrations are acts of worship”… Basically these people say they think the true Virgin Mary would role over in her grave if she saw these acts.
I challenge you to quote one Christian person or book who said that the actual historical figure, the Mother of Jesus, is a person deserving of hatred and disrespect. I have never met any Christian, whatever group they belonged to, who held that oppinion.
What many Evangelicals believe is that we give her the role of a deity, and for that reason they make manifestations such as smashing statues.
This is logical and understandable from their perspective.

I think that it’s kind of funny though that the statue is a statue of St. Therese of the Little Flower.

I noticed that also just shows that he has no idea of what he is talking about.

I came on this thread because many may know I have been sticking this out for as long as I have for a few reasons but the largest was my love of Mary.

I see that while it is not a thread that was researched properly prior to posting, it did make me realize that I won’t ever stop thinking about Mary. Even if I have to stop this quest I have been on for this long.

I will defend her if I ever am in a position to. In this case, she needed no defense.
Little Flower, you are amazing and need no defense.

Wish I knew why I felt this way, and why I can’t do this.

Mary, I feel I did all I could. I consider the Catholic faith to be the one I feel most comfortable with. While I may never have been in your family, I felt a connection to it. A closeness. That will never change. I just hope you understand I can’t keep this up anymore.

Exactly! Let us not forget this, because if we slander them (say they hate the actual Virgin Mary) then we are no better than they are if they slander us due to their ignorance.

Probably not a valuable, or blessed, or consecrated statue. One not containing any relics.

Please refrain from idolatry and keep your perspective. Statues have no ears and may not hear; they have no eyes and may not see. We do not worship mere stone and marble, but we honor what they represent. Therefore, someone who smashes a statue cannot hurt the Blessed Virgin Mary, she lives in Heaven and in our hearts.

The heresy of iconoclasm is nothing new, it was alive and well in the eighth century, it nearly tore our Church apart. The Byzantines are quite familiar with it. And the Eastern Churches don’t even use statues, they use painted (written) icons.

Catholics are not doing wrong by having blessed statues in their church or home. It is not forbidden, and it is not idolatry. The statues are not worshiped. They are blessed, and they remind us of the person they are respresenting.

They are sacramentals, and they remind us of holy people, and of what our Lord did for us. (crucifixes).

And, I do believe the use of written icons are beautiful. I know two people who “write” them, and they go on retreats to do so.

So I found a video on youtube of what I believe to be a fundamentalist baptist preacher mercilessly dishonoring the virgin mary and getting applause for it. Now I know that there are certain people out there that accuse us of idolitry, but this guy takes it waaayy too far by trying to hurt us through hurting the mother of God.

We pray for our separated brothers and sisters to return to the church one day. This is an example of outright hate through satan, attacking Christians from within. The final blow and victory of the dark-one is to topple the church itself; he chips away at the perimeter churches like this. United we prevail, divided we fall. I find it hilarious that they endlessly cite the bit about “graven images”, but ignore the proximate verse that tells us God Himself ordered Moses to construct statues of angels in the Holy of Holies. There is no consistency when your entire ministry is based on emotion and centered on man.

Indeed, on the walls of the earliest Jewish synagogues, there have been found murals of Bible stories, tiles in relief depicting cherubim and various symbols relating to HaShem, as well as writing and ornamental designs.

I think that was meant was that smashing a statue in human terms hurt the Lord’s feelings. How would YOU like it if someone took a picture of your Mother or child and spit on it tore it. It wouldn’t kill your Mom or child but would hurt your feelings. That I think what was meant by that post. It hurts me that he did that.

I have repeatedly refused to watch this video. Finally I caved and watched it.

Did anyone make it to 3:50 minutes? That’s as far as I got because his hammer struck the Sacred Head of Our Lord on the Crucifix. If “Mary ain’t did nothin yet” as he says, She’s more than likely about to not only do something about it, but ask her Son to finish it.

When he says at :49 that these people got 'em at prison cells, I feel from his actions it may be experience that teaches him this one and only truth he may believe as fact.

I felt like crying so couldn’t even watch the whole thing.

Let me ask you a question. Same thing with a piece of cotton fabric or whatever kind of fabric, it’s nothing else but that, right? So how do you feel deep down inside when you see someone (on TV) tear the American flag down and stomp on it and burn it? Does that not hurt your feelings? So it’s not only a piece of fabric, right? You get my point.

And also, she’s in heaven but they see it and it hurts them as they want nothing but the best for us and this priest is doing bad things in the video.
I feel offended and it hurts me to watch something like that.
