I have repeatedly refused to watch this video. Finally I caved and watched it.

Did anyone make it to 3:50 minutes? That’s as far as I got because his hammer struck the Sacred Head of Our Lord on the Crucifix. If “Mary ain’t did nothin yet” as he says, She’s more than likely about to not only do something about it, but ask her Son to finish it.

When he says at :49 that these people got 'em at prison cells, I feel from his actions it may be experience that teaches him this one and only truth he may believe as fact.
made it for maybe 10 seconds or so. Did flag it like Antonivs ^ adviced us to do.

I did not watch the whole thing either. I was more offended by his mocking Catholics when he kneeled down and crossed himself. I know how we are sometimes viewed by other religions, and I don’t have favorable opinions about some other faiths but I don’t publicly mock them either. As a Christian he should be concerned about our souls and he isn’t gonna save any of us by mocking us!!!

An interesting thread indeed.

You all remember a few weeks back, someone said they had inherited some new age books and asked us what to do with them, and all responded: burn them.

I was rather surprised… because it seems theres much different thoughts abour what should happen to diffent books… many of you were up in arms when the Quran was burned, representing a religion that takes many more astray than New Age does.

Anyway, to the point. A statue is not a person, and to these Christian brothers the statue doesn’t even represent the true Virgin Mary. They smash it to make a point about idolatry, a point which we should agree with, namely that idolatry is bad, and heathen temples should be laid waste, and there made way for the one true worship of Christ.

These brothers haven’t anything against the Virgin Mary, they have something against whom they believe to be an idol made by Catholic tradition. An idol worshipped in the place of God, and an idol whom people hope in and expect help and mercy from in a way only appropriate towards God.
I think we need to ask ourselves why Protestants continuously get the idea that we worship statues.

For that reason, I don’t think Mary has something against this man. I think she might be proud of him, because whereas he doesn’t understand Catholicism, he has zeal for Christ and for destroying what he perceives to be leading away from Christ. I think God sees that in his heart, and so does the Virgin Mary.
Hi GracedK,
Yes I agree this man(?) has great zeal. But contemptable.

Would it be alright for me to go into a Budist temple and smash their image?
Or take that image and set it down before our altar and begin assulting it with
a blunt instrument while this is being recording for public viewing?

Or suppose we took an image of your mother and while it was being molested
in public they were smiling while during this? If you were present
would you say nothing?

This is the Mother of Jesus who is being shown contempt.
I might add she is your spiritual mother as well.

This is more than our flag being burned.

Mary has my deepest apologies for this contempt even tho thu ignorance.
The man has my prayers for him that he will some day know his heavenly mother.

I think he hates women as well. How can you hate the Mother of our Savior? That is just crazy…he needs psychiatric help.

Lets just agree to disagree.
I am a former Protestant myself.
I never had anything against the Virgin Mary while I grew up, and I have met so many Evangelicals that say: “I know you say you don’t worship her, but it sure looks like your songs and prostrations are acts of worship”… Basically these people say they think the true Virgin Mary would role over in her grave if she saw these acts.
I challenge you to quote one Christian person or book who said that the actual historical figure, the Mother of Jesus, is a person deserving of hatred and disrespect. I have never met any Christian, whatever group they belonged to, who held that oppinion.
What many Evangelicals believe is that we give her the role of a deity, and for that reason they make manifestations such as smashing statues.
This is logical and understandable from their perspective.
Hi,
I don’t mean to beat a dead horse, but it souldn’t be understandable from their perspective or any other perspective, especially the Christian perspective.

The early Christians had a disagreement about eating food that was offered in pagan sacrifices. Some said it was ok while others said it was not ok. It was resolved by saying that if a brother would like this meat for dinner but it would bother another brother’s sensitivity, the Paul said don’t eat the meat in front of him out of regard for the brother.

It isn’t always about what is right or wrong, but about feelings of others. It is caring about others in many ways.

If we did the same thing to a pagan idol in our church, what do you think the reaction would be by the parishners? They would not be clapping.

So I found a video on youtube of what I believe to be a fundamentalist baptist preacher mercilessly dishonoring the virgin mary and getting applause for it.
It’s not impossible that he’s a Baptist (but please do remember that in the black community, “Baptist” is used very loosely and doesn’t necessarily have to meet the traditional definition of Baptist or hold to any of the Baptist distinctives) but he’s not a fundamentalist.

Now I know that there are certain people out there that accuse us of idolitry, but this guy takes it waaayy too far by trying to hurt us through hurting the mother of God.
Imagine of Jesus came in as he was doing that?
No doubt Jesus was delighted to see His Mother SMACHED!🤷

I guess when one does not have TRUTH to teach theatrics are important?

God Bless,
Pat

I don’t even want to watch the video, but I’ll comment.

Keep in mind he didn’t hurt the Virgin Mary since this is only a representation of her through a statue.

He isn’t the first to do such an act and certainly will not be the last.

He will have to answer to her Son in the end for insulting our Divine Mother. It is one thing not to pray to her but it is another to insult her.

This is the definition of ignorance and much prayer is needed for him.

Hurting the Mother of God? “Baptist smashes Virgin Mary”?

It would seem you’re talking about a real person, but you’re talking about a statue here.

Probably not a valuable, or blessed, or consecrated statue. One not containing any relics.

Please refrain from idolatry and keep your perspective. Statues have no ears and may not hear; they have no eyes and may not see. We do not worship mere stone and marble, but we honor what they represent. Therefore, someone who smashes a statue cannot hurt the Blessed Virgin Mary, she lives in Heaven and in our hearts.

The heresy of iconoclasm is nothing new, it was alive and well in the eighth century, it nearly tore our Church apart. The Byzantines are quite familiar with it. And the Eastern Churches don’t even use statues, they use painted (written) icons.
WHAAAT???
MY GOD, please don’t tell me you mean this wholeheartedly???

It doesn’t matter to me whether he had a statue of Mary, St Therese, or another saint, he did something completely unacceptable!
Let’s change the context slightly: Let’s say it had been a statue of George Washington being spray-painted. Or perhaps Thomas Jefferson’s image being smashed. Or, how would we react if someone attempted to place graffiti on Lincoln’s statue in the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C. Seems to me we’d be rightly enraged.

These statues aren’t living, breathing, people, no, but neither did anyone ever declare them to be people. Even so, we still honor the existence of the unblemished statue precisely as a means of honoring the now-deceased person’s accomplishments in life.
Everyone understands this in general life, but for some reason, we seem willing to forget it when we walk into a church.

Or to put it in a different context, let’s say this had been a Catholic Church (or Protestant, for that matter) on the Sunday immediately preceding Martin Luther King Day. Let’s say this had been a white priest (or a minister) with a statue of Martin Luther King, Jr. Let’s say the cleric would smash or deface THAT statue.
Do you think this community of believers would react calmly to that?
I don’t! I think they’d threaten a riot!

Certainly I would condemn violence associated with this act, or any similar, but we have a right–and an obligation–to roundly condemn this blasphemy!

I’m well aware that this preacher doesn’t believe what I believe. I understand he thinks we’re nuts. I’m sorry, but that’s not an acceptable excuse for smashing anything.

In the case of the Koran burning, I thought that a hideous abuse of Freedom of Speech; I would condemn such acts against any book. Keep in mind, that doesn’t mean I wouldn’t throw them out or shred them. But rest assured, I’d do so IN PRIVATE, not making a public spectacle of the act!

Lastly, if we don’t get furious about this, what else might we tolerate?
Seems to me that this minister most likely doesn’t believe in the Real Presence of Christ in the sacrifice on the altar either. If we don’t object to this act, he’d have ample cause to smash an altar, or (God forbid) a tabernacle.

We have a right to expect greater tolerance and mutual understanding from our separated brothers and sisters!

What a sad group of people that are gathered to hear the teachings of God’s word. First I just want to say that towards the end of this “showing” why could this man not read from the bible himself??? Why must another man read a few words and him just repeat it in a louder voice. We all heard what he said the first time! But if he truly thinks by restating it louder is going to change the actual words of the bible or take on a different meaning then he is wrong. If he is the Pastor…then he should be in charge, he should be reading, not restating what the other man already said. Moving on to the bigger picture, if one can disrespect the Mother of God in such a way, what makes them a good Christian at heart? I’m sure this “show” that was put on in this “church” is not pleasing in the eyes of God. But it just goes to show that people are truly uneducated when it comes to their faith. If they had any knowledge they would realize that their faith origionally came from the Catholic Church…the first church! They would realize that Catholics do NOT worship Mary. Pastors like that have been taught or brain washed since a young age about how everyone else is wrong and they are right. Their lack of true education on the Bible is obvious. Do these pastors respect their own mothers??? I’m sure they do, so why would they not have the same respect for the Mother of God…the one you will come together with on judgment day…they one that gave his life for you and me so that we may have eternal life?? If Mary had not brought Jesus into this world, where would we all be today? Would this pastor take a hammer to the head of his friends mother? My guess is probably not…so why would he do it to the Mother of God? And not only that, but to hit the crusifix with a hammer is a pure slap in the face to everything we as CHRISTIANS believe in. Jesus died on the cross for each and every single one of us, correct? I’m currious to see if this pastor even agrees with this because if he did he would not show such disrespect towards the representation which happend so long ago to ensure his future in the kingdom of heaven.

The bottom line is simple, God gave people the choice of free will, and weather you choose to be Catholic or some other Christian denomination you are still choosing to follow the word of God and to be a GOOD PERSON!!! If getting a cheap applause from putting on some kind of show just to wind up on U Tube makes this and other pastors feel good about themselves then that is their choice. They, like everyone else, will have their judgment day and will have to answer for the things they have done here on earth.

BUT…and you may not like this…as GOOD CATHOLICS we still need to pray for them and ask God to help show them the true light and meaning of God because apparently they are still missing it. Although the insults this man and others have shown against God and the Catholic community WE still need to follow Gods commands and pray for them even though they have shown a great amount of disrespect.

Oh, sweet Jesus. Have mercy on all of us and particularly on this poor misguided soul. :signofcross:

Needless to say, this “preacher” has bought into the old lie that we followers of Holy Mother Church worship Mary as a deity-------and therefore he “acted” accordingly.

For goodness sake, man, can’t you just try to read up on the Cathecism and/or Catholic doctrine to find out first about what you are condeming?

Sheesh.

God, have mercy on the human race. Through the prayers of the MOTHER OF GOD, have mercy on us and save us. Amen. :knight2::highprayer:

False! Consecrated Statues are blessed, always tio be respected. One would be arrested for smashing a Statue of a Founding Father or Civil War Soldier. That Preacher can have a Religious Bias/Hatred charge filed against him. The Blessed Virgin has beebn the Number One Person in the Church next to Our Lord, Since Our Lord’s time. Indeed, Pray for his Soul. He is a False Prophet described in the New Testament, preciselly. BTW: Icons have the Opposite of “Paint”; they are Mosaics: Stone chips, meticulously put together as in 7th Century East.

The Apostles settled misunderstanding in the Early Church in their Epistles and Council of Jerusalem. Remember the Apostles wrere the Teaching Voice Of The early Church; their Authority is in 1 Timothy 3:15. Know Abstinence on Fridays has been practiced since the First Century, and is still Cannon Law? Very many of our Traditions and teachings contnue From the First Century.

It isn’t always about what is right or wrong, but about feelings of others. It is caring about others in many ways.

ok gotta go out on a limb on this. I agree its not kool to do. But it is only a representation of our Holy Mother.

Any damaging of another’s Statue is Arrestable crime, And defamation of another denomination is also violation of Law. This preacher doesn’t even know basic Bible teachings of No “False Teachings” he is rather rare in doing: “Depart From Me; I knew ye not”.

‘Only’? Mary has been the Ideal Model of a Human Being Since the Time of Christ. ‘Muhammed/Allah’ mention her in The Koran second only to 'Prophet" Jesus Christ.

How so? It wasn’t someone else’s property, as far as I can see.

How on earth can destroying one’s own property be an arrestable crime?
I also wrote that Violent defamation of Another Faith is against The Law.

Yes, I know, but I’m not familar with American law so I can’t comment on that part.

That’s why I confined myself to the obvious flaw in your argument about destroying property. It can’t be an arrestable crime if it’s the person’s own property, so I wonder why you say it is.
