How 'bout we teach our children the Faith, good critical thinking skills, and proper boundaries of imagination.

God made herbs. A witch can use them in a brew, or I can use them in my tea. The later does not make me a witch any more than eating pasta makes me Italian. If watching a movie can turn my children into witches or vampires, then my family has a much bigger issue to address (like the inability to separate fantasy from reality, or lust for power).

There is nothing new under the sun. The “New Age” is not “new” at all, for instance. Niether is the occult. If you know Jesus and His Church, then “fear not.” “Let not your hearts be troubled.” Drink your tea.

Quite frankly I used to think all this criticism of Harry Potter was nonsens ebut then the other night I accidentally turn my wife into a ferret. Honestly I thought I was just waving chopsticks around- I didn’t know I had inadvertently muttered the incantation I learned in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire!

Now I have a moral dilemma-should I leave her as a ferret since to turn her back into herself I would be practicing sorcery , a grievous sin? I really need an answer as she is leaving fur all over the floor and the furniture and the neighborhood cat think she is a treat.
#1. Use essential oils to reverse aging, since ferrets age faster than humans, this should work.
if this fails then:
#2. Place the ferret on a flat surface and sprinkle it with your wife’s perfume and state: “You were born a woman, now you are a ferret. You were a ferret and now you are a woman” *

*Notes: This should work as I saw something like it regarding meat and fish on the internet and everything on the internet is true.

if this fails then:
#3. Shave the ferret bald and glue the hair to a wife-sized piece of paper while invoking the power of Elmer, the Greek god of glue.

All joking aside, pagan influences are growing and we do need to pray for those so deluded.

Agreed .

The OP is writing in syllogisms:

**Definition: (Wikipedia) A syllogism (Greek: συλλογισμός – “conclusion,” “inference”) or logical appeal is a kind of logical argument in which one proposition (the conclusion) is inferred from two others (the premises) of a certain form.

In Prior Analytics, Aristotle defines syllogism as “a discourse in which, certain things having been supposed, something different from the things supposed results of necessity because these things are so.” (24b18–20)

Despite this very general definition, he limits himself first to categorical syllogisms[1] (and later to modal syllogisms). The syllogism was at the core of traditional deductive reasoning, where facts are determined by combining existing statements, in contrast to inductive reasoning where facts are determined by repeated observations.**

And syllogisms have been disproved as truth.
(My old English Lit prof would be so proud of me…)

Agreed.

The syllogism he is making goes is follow:

Witches use Herbs
Joe uses Herbs
therefore Joe is a witch

One can easily look at the syllogism and realize the absurdity of it.

For instance:

Mass murderers Drink water
Joe drinks water
therefore Joe is a mass murderer

Hear, hear!

I don’t even know you and I’m proud of you. Well said.

I don’t want to drag anybody in to the grave but it’s important we understand our culture in the West. People argue that the Church is out of date. Equally we could argue that British society is becoming more pagan, or “New Agey”. Some pagans believe that modern day marriages are closer to handfastings as pagans don’t always marry for life and gays can have hand fastings. Pagans also have a soft attitude to polygamy and polyandry which could become more acceptable too.

I think it stems from the sixties but it can be traced back to the war. The summer of love in my view was a Witch’s sabbath with nudity, hallucinogenic drugs, orgies and baby killing.

budgie, there are lots of bad things going on in the world. This has always been the case. Given that Scripture calls Satan “the god of this world” we should expect no less. What, exactly, is your fear? Is your fear that Catholics are being tricked by Satan? Are you afraid Catholics are being desensitized by popular culture? Are you afraid that Satan is prevailing in spiritual warfare, and that the Church is losing? What is your motive for starting this thread?

The late Archbishop Fulton Sheen was on a plane trip once, and when they passed around asking about what he’d like to eat for his meal, he gracefully declined so he could fast (it was Lent). A young lady sitting next to him also gracefully declined, so he tried to strike up a conversation with her. “Oh, are you a Catholic fasting for Lent, too?” She said, “No, I’m a witch and I’m fasting for abortion.” She then proceeded to fill him in for the next two hours on what the witches were about, etc.

The moral demise of a nation always precedes it’s ultimate demise.
Fr. Corapi just told this exact story about Bishop Sheen about 20 minutes ago on EWTN. Is that where you heard it, Scooby?

Is this a syllogism?
Mary gave birth to Jesus.
Jesus is God.
Mary gave birth to God.
Mary is the Mother of God.

Syllogism was defined in part as “in contrast to inductive reasoning where facts are determined by repeated observations.”

Not all facts cane be determined by repeated observations - particularly those relating to faith and the spiritual world.

(I drink herbal tea.)

I think the OP is expressing his/her concern that we are in the time of the Great Apostasy, where love grows cold. Observational evidence clearly shows this to be the case - the churches in the cradle of Christianity - Europe - are empty. Many young people are very far from God (older people are not too aware of this, I notice - they assume for the most part that the young have the same faith they do, but many do not) in the formerly staunch Christian parts of the world.

Many young people readily think gay marriage is ok, abortion is ok (or pro-choice, as they prefer ) -they feel if people want to marry the same sex, so what? If people feel they are not ready for a kid, so what, abort it. The young have been taught relativism in school - I once mentioned something about gays and my 18 year old daughter said “It is an alternative lifestyle, they say in school.” This is what she and her gen were taught day in and day out. “I’m ok, you’re ok, we’re all ok! - lets sing Kumbaya!” They are taught it is a fetus, not a person, a human, a child. They are taught many incorrect and anti-Christian things day in and day out at school.

I think this is at the heart of what the OP is getting at. The Christian West has become neo-pagan. (Many young are atheist or believe in
alternative gods". This is actually true. I remember the 24 year old brother of my son-in-law - telling us all - ‘officially declaring’ that he is to no longer be considered Christian by the rest of us - he started wearing an Egyptian ankh and studying Osiris, Isis or whatever. And he is not alone.)

As for the Church losing - Mother Angelica said the Church will seem to be dead or nearly dead just before the end. The Church won’t lose, but Satan is making a go of it - right now, in our time. I think that is the OP’s point. We need to be sure to pray and fast, and wake up and look up.

Thanks for your posts. I have to disagree with you once again. It’s not my fault that you haven’t been informed by the Church, but the Church is trying to cover up some of the misdeeds in the witch hunt. Herbs can be used in herbal abortion and in the past women with knowledge of herbs were tried as witches. Under the Caroline Code it was illegal to put herbs of the mint family or lamiaceae (from the latin Lamia meaning witch) in your food. Witchcraft is legal and not everything in the supermarket is trustworthy.

There are two things you should know:

1). The Church actually condemned the belief in witchcraft as a heresy.

2). Bleach can kill you if you drink it.

However, drinking bleach isn’t witchcraft. Nor is eatting herbs. Sure drinking bleach is stupid, so is eating certain herbs. But being an alarmist is almost just as foolish.

It is a quantum leap to go from believing that theculture is degrading our faith and claiming that burning incense is an example of this

There is really absolutely nothing in this post and make sense. What is the Caroline code? Are you claiming that using herbs in any manner makes for witch? Are you claiming that the church is part of some conspiracy to allow people who practice witchcraft and not realize it?

I’m not surprised to find out that budgie is more Catholic than Catholicism.

This was a really interesting thread. I Used to be a “Pagan” and now Catholic. I think I have a much better view of this that many so far on this thread (and I don’t mean to sound bad)

MOST “Pagan” “New Age” followers are not evil, practice evil things - and many of them think that is a very bad thing for one to do. “Pagan” is a very lose term and almost like grouping all “Christians” into one bucket and saying everyone is the same.

“Herbal medicines” have been around for thousands of years on the Far east, and in South America - and MANY cures and modern medicines your doctor perscribes from from these areas from research… - this is far from “New Age”

Harry Potter, Marylin Manson, Nirvana (This is far from pagan, they were drug users, but I am sure there are many Catholic drug users too…)

If you look there are many similar items that are similar to many “Wicca” followers… Though Wicca as many know it today came about in the 1950s-1960s. Witchcraft, is now “Wicca” but some Wiccan practice Witchcraft (which is not always evil, and some think if you do evil, bad things happen to you)

But let me clarify something first - I am not “supporting” it, but have to also understand there are many religions in the world… and one should not worry if watching a TV program, or drinking a Herbal tea is wrong to the Church… Popular Culture/Entertainment is just that - Entertainment… If you don’t like to eat it, drink it,. see it… then don’t.

And FYI - Angels & Demons was the final push to me to the Church.

So who wants a slightly used soap box now, cheap?

Welcome to the Church!

Thanks for the comments. Very well-spoken. My DIL’s mom claims to be Wiccan. She says what you stated: if you do evil, it will come back to you three times over. 🤷

At any rate - you say “Angels and Demons” brought you to the Church. Mind saying how?(briefly - so as not to derail the thread!)
