“To mark the children of Israel as “separate” from those who believed the Egyptian mythologies”… what for, if I may ask? Why slaying animals just to have Israel become “separate” from the Egyptians, and even from all peoples? Is that the only thing the Jews celebrate at Passover? That would seem then no more than a nationalistic feast to boost their pride and nothing more?
If that were the case, I would doubt very much that the Jews are truly the people of God! Just a people like another…

And frankly, if that were the only reason, Judaism would be one religion like all others with its own mythology. Is this how you view Israel?

And… why do you always have to add a “blush” sign? What do you mean in putting it? Ben uses to do that often… Are you he?

I do not have to do all those things that the Church says I do to consider, turn from my sins, and walk in the ways of God. That is the Church abusing power and Truth…
What has “abusing power” anything to do with it? And what do you mean by “all those things”? And how do you tell your sins from what you may think are sins but aren’t? And how do you tell what isn’t a sin from what you wrongly think not to be a sin?

Conscience alone is not sufficient if it doesn’t have sufficient light and sufficient knowledge…

*No Lapell. But what point is it to expound on something that seems so unfantastical to most. To me, I can understand why Passover is celebrated for I, too, have been delivered from the illusions and the lies… and truly, it was by “the hand” of God. I, at one time, considered myself an atheist and then, the way He grabbed my attention… well, it was so personal and so sweet that my attention is fixated on Him until the day that I exist no more. BUT, it seems to be a let down I guess to those who want something spectacular (that is, according to their own imagination). It is stated, though, in the testimonies, “Woe unto you that desire the day of the LORD! to what end is it for you? the day of the LORD is darkness, and not light.” What you seek is not to the glory of God for His glory is here… all around us. Most are just considering His works too mundane and not worth their time.

So many desire for God to intervene (and it is against their own imaginations, mind you) when His GLORIOUS works are all* around us testifying that we have what we need to free ourselves!! He is Good and yet, so many, such as yourself do not TRULY believe this!

I do… and thus, I celebrate with the Jewish People for all that God has given to us; for it is VERY good!

😉 We all are children of God… they are just the ones that first understood and accepted ALL that He gave us. They submitted and TRULY they are the light to and the salt of the earth. Even STILL having the Truth given to us through what they have learned firsthand, many are worshiping their rocks and sticks and giving praise to human sacrifices. Maybe one day, the Truth really will cover the whole of the earth. I have hope in humanity which was given the best gift of all… the ability to think logically; to be able to think rationally and to reason ourselves toward the Truth… for it is GOOD.

**I am not buying into any modern revisionist. The store I buy my goods is called NT, an epic treatise of contradictions. Mark 14:50 says clearly that when Jesus was arrested ALL his disciples deserted him and fled. Later they were found behind locked doors for fear of being arrested too. That’s where I buy what I know. For the replacement of Mary Magdalene with John as Jesus beloved disciple, one does not need to be a genius to know that the hand of the Church is behind this conspiracy. But I understand you. I am aware of the works of faith.

Ben: **
The disciples deserted Jesus when he was arrested, but that says nothing about where they were the next day when Jesus was crucified. The gospels say that when Jesus was being judged and scourged,Peter was in a nearby courtyard. The gospels were written by members of the Church, and the Church has always known that the “beloved disciple” is John.

At the end of the Gospel of John, the beloved disciple is referred to as a “man” and a “him”.

20 Peter turning about, saw that disciple whom Jesus loved following, who also leaned on his breast at supper, and said: Lord, who is he that shall betray thee?
21 Him therefore when Peter had seen, he saith to Jesus: Lord, and what shall this man do? 22 Jesus saith to him: So I will have him to remain till I come, what is it to thee? follow thou me. 23 This saying therefore went abroad among the brethren, that that disciple should not die. And Jesus did not say to him: He should not die; but, So I will have him to remain till I come, what is it to thee? 24 This is that disciple who giveth testimony of these things, and hath written these things; and we know that his testimony is true.

And frankly, if that were the only reason, Judaism would be one religion like all others with its own mythology. Is this how you view Israel?
*Actually, one of the reasons that I rejected the Tanakh (besides what seemed to be contradictions) along with the NT was the mythological copy-cat tales that are littered all throughout. What made the difference? An enlightened view to the Law of God according to Proverbs 2:1-7. It happened quite unexpectedly really, Lapell. Truly, if I could extract what I have experienced over the last couple of years and inject it into the veins of those around me, I would… then, you all would understand. But I can’t make you throw the curse from out of your minds… that is something I had to do myself and expect that you all have to do the same first as well. Jeremiah 17:5 <---- the curse. And it is truly a terrifying thing to shed for one as drenched into the christian mindset as I was… *
**
*Think eternal suffering in hell is scary? Just you wait if you are ever blessed enough to experience the TRUE fear of God… the reward? wisdom! 🙂 *
Why spill the blood of an animal if it is only symbolic? Why slain lambs?
*Lapell… BETTER the blood of an animal than that of a human… which was common back in the ancient times. One word: EVOLVING! *
And… why do you always have to add a “blush” sign? What do you mean in putting it? Ben uses to do that often… Are you he?
*shrugs I do not answer for Ben. I can’t say why he uses it. I use it either because I am embarrased for you and all the others who believe the things you are supporting or because I am embarrased that I bought into some of it myself. But here… 😃 <----- because I no longer am delusional and thus, a different smilie for your viewing pleasure. *
What has “abusing power” anything to do with it? And what do you mean by “all those things”? And how do you tell your sins from what you may think are sins but aren’t? And how do you tell what isn’t a sin from what you wrongly think not to be a sin?
*By all “those things” I meant … confessing sins to a priest, the rosary, and whatever else it is that you all do. When I wrong someone, I go straight to them and set things straight (no matter what) and when I wrong God, I go straight to Him. I get fed straight from the mouth of God as it is promised by Him to do… and I never expected such a thing, but it is happening (proverbs 2:1-7) … and the great thing is that I am not the only one… thus, I know that HE IS speaking to others for truly, these things could only be taught by Him. Have never heard them from a man’s mouth other than recently… as others are coming and testifying to hearing His teachings as well. AS the great testimonies say, “In the latter days, they will consider it perfectly.” … we weren’t set apart from the animals to end up being just like them, you know. 😉 *
Conscience alone is not sufficient if it doesn’t have sufficient light and sufficient knowledge…
*Perhaps not in those who are unaware of God… for me, it was sufficient. My conscience was enough to clue me into a GREAT WORK going on. I can only explain it in the comparison to gravity. That it is there is enough to know it came from somewhere though I can’t explain all the inner workings of it… but that it is there, I know there is a reason. Just like the tides of the oceans are affected by the moon (something outside of our world), my conscience is affected by something outside of myself… there is a reason… and that is one of the reasons that even when I called myself an atheist, I never truly believed there was not a God… and certainly I knew that He was trying to grab my attention. 🙂 *

That’s great! If Jesus broke the Sabbath, he broke the Law.
You guys can no longer say he was perfect.
Jesus Christ is the Word of God, He gave the Law to the Jews. He is the Torah incarnate.

Mark,2:
23 And it came to pass again, as the Lord walked through the corn fields on the sabbath, that his disciples began to go forward, and to pluck the ears of corn. 24 And the Pharisees said to him: Behold, why do they on the sabbath day that which is not lawful? 25 And he said to them: Have you never read what David did when he had need, and was hungry himself, and they that were with him?

26 How he went into the house of God, under Abiathar the high priest, and did eat the loaves of proposition, which was not lawful to eat but for the priests, and gave to them who were with him? 27 And he said to them: The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath. 28 Therefore the Son of man is Lord of the sabbath also.

**All that shows that Ralph and company do not read the scripture. I knew that Ishmael the elder brother of Issac was with Issac when Abraham died. Both brothers buried Abraham together. But Ralph says:

I am not sure that Isaac and Ishmael ever met as adults…in fact, Isaac may not have remmembered him at all **

Otherwise too, even if Sarai wished that Ishmael should not inherit (land) with Issac. That I feel is a blame on that good lady. There was plenty of land to share. No shortage of any land. Both the brothers were blessed by God. The Father looked after the land matter very wisely. He settled both brothers, Ishmael and Issac, far apart in different lands. That was very wise of him.

There was no dispute or disagreement. They were all good people, loving God Almighty. All well set in service of God.

The Catholics may not be disturbed by a Muslim supporting a Jew or a christian. I need not oppose the truth. That I do not. So catholics can relax.
Was Hagar the “wife” of Abraham? I thought she was the handmaiden of Sarah/Sarai? What was the law if Ishmael was not a “legitimate” son of Abraham, but Isaac was, Sarah being the “legitimate” wife of Abraham, if she was so considered?

In other words, how did Ishamael’s “rights” compare to Isaac’s? Thanks.

**For being Torah incarnate, it makes much more sense that Israel is the one, considering that to Israel only God gave the Law and to other people on earth according to Psalm 147:19,20.

Regarding Mark 2: 23-25, I don’t believe that the Pharisees criticized Jesus for his discipes pluking ears of corn on the Sabbath if they were hungry, because they knew about the law of Pichuach Nephesh which allows a Jew to break a commandment to fulfill another more related to preservation of life.

Regarding lord of the Sabbath, we all are. According to our freewill it’s up to us to do with the Sabbath whatever we want. I choose to keep it holy, you have chosen to keep Sunday instead and everything is all right. **

Of course God doesn’t only do “unspectacular things”, but He does some sometimes, you know. That being said, if we don’t believe Moses and the Prophets, what good would it be to someone that somebody rie up from death? But for those who do believe Moses and the Prophets and commit themselves to do what God wills of them, It may do good especially if it has something to do with God’s plan!

With God’s grace, indeed!

Ben, why can’t you believe that at least some Pharisees could have criticized Jesus’ disciples? The Talmud is full of discussion of the most various views, and it was put together some centuries after Jesus’ time!
Maybe the 614th Commandment (human life prevails over all the Commandments) was a further development from some time after Jesus?

Think eternal suffering in hell is scary? Just you wait if you are ever blessed enough to experience the TRUE fear of God… the reward? wisdom! 🙂
Yes, a Psalm said just that. But what is scary about the true “fear” of the Lord? It’s a respectful reverence toward Him, and if there is any fear there, it would be to displease Him not because He would turn any wrath against us but because He is so worthy of my love and He deserves it so much…

The angry Jew and the heretical Muslim are forming an alliance.

Run and hide…all facts will have no sway in their posts
You think he is angry just because he is a Jew??? That’s rather anti-Semitic.

Prodigal Child, ralphinal talks this way not because Ben is a Jew, but because of all what Ben appears to be doing with his threads: the way he pushes his opinions against Paul, the authenticity of the Gospels, the authenticity of Catholic Magisterium’s Biblical interpretation… Paul, to him, is the founder of Christianity, for example! When the Acts mentions that he was SENT to the Gentiles by the Church after their having laid their hands on him…
