What can an expression like “women and** children first**” mean to modern men who have been taught all their lives that women are nothing more precious than sexual** playthings**, and children nothing more than a disposable burden.
Nice generalization and phony indictment. Neither I nor any man in my family hold or held to this absurd statement, and I’m sure that the men on this Board don’t hold to that, either…

There is too much polarization on both sides and it leads to creating a riff when there doesn’t need to be one. Fact is the vast majority of women are not hardened man hating feminists. And most men are not women hating beaters. Most people are no different than they were 1000 years ago, they want to be left to live a life in relative peace and raise a family.

As for the man hating feminist, well they’re better than the women hating men, at least the former isn’t strangling people, sexually assaulting them, and dumping them in a canal.

**There is so much violence against women in our society it is really is ridiculous for us men to pine over a few radical feminists. **
I think your comment is very naive. The movement has been highly organized, very influential and networked to effectively reach even the outer boundaries. They have a very broad agenda which touts creation spirituality and worship of the feminine self. They are all for re-imaging religion (and most especially the Catholic church.) Many good books on the subject - here’s another one which exposes the extent of their hatred and liberalism:
Radical feminism is the most destructive and fanatical movement to come down to us from the Sixties. This is a revolutionary, not a reformist, movement, and it is meeting with considerable success. Totalitarian in spirit, it is deeply antagonistic to traditional Western culture and proposes the complete restructuring of society, morality, and human nature.

One of those rare instances when I find myself in agreement with someone on this board that I generally disagree with.

One of the reasons for such outrage is that there are so many that do hold to the more traditional ideals that true feminism provides for.

If something is screamed loud enough, people tend to believe the majority must be in agreement. The modern ‘feminazi’ as it were is a very small minority but is a very loud one.

This is based on the Marxist Class Warfare system. Men become the eternal enemy, while women are the eternal victims of men. The family was destroyed in many cases. The usual bonds between aunts, uncles and in-laws were usually broken. Marriage began to turn into whatever you wanted it to mean and living together with sex, which was frowned upon, gave way to movie after movie, for example, where an attractive couple are modeling exactly that type of behavior.

And the Sexual Revolution was about selfish pleasure, not committed love. This gave way to casual sex and ‘just sex’ like going to the bathroom.

As the foundational building block of any society, once the family becomes less important than personal desires and egos, we end up with what we have today.

This is not better. The experiment was a failure.

Peace,
Ed
👍!

One could see this beginning in many* small*** ways!
Take away the baby dolls and baby carriages and give your daughters the famous Barbie Doll!!
*Baby dolls and baby carriages will strengthen and mold the maternal instinct and care of others while the Barbie Dolls will open up a whole new world to them, a world of self centeredness, what’s the lastest fashion, the world revolves around me and my wardrobe, my boyfriend, my nice car, my boat, my camper and all the good things I can have in this life. *
The last I heard Barbie wanted to become a baby doctor, maybe the beautiful life can not kill off the maternal instinct completely.

Nicknamed “Captain Coward,” Schettino has become the focus of national fury for Italians fed up with the all too frequently accurate stereotype of Italian men as vain, feckless, irresponsible, selfish and untrustworthy permanent adolescents.
Tiny bit prejudicial, no?

I think Schettino was inept and not prepared to be in a leadership position. I wonder how he ended up in a leadership position when he so obviously unqualified.

I’m not sure his actions were a product of feminism, a reaction to feminism, or a symptom of feminism.

I think he’s the poster boy for self centered, narcissistic, coward.

Which by the way is not synonymous with “Italian”. De Falco, the Coast Guard official was also Italian and seemed like the take charge type of person.

:sad_yes: The radical feminists have done a number on the culture. ***Real ***feminists are strong God fearing women that recognize and appreciate their roll in the family. The roll that God has planned. Being good wives, and loving mothers and grandmothers. (me:)) Nope, that doesn’t mean rolling over and playing dead. It doesn’t mean being passive to abuse. It means putting the divine plan into practice, and allowing our men to be MEN. I believe “natural law” comes into play…the term we’ve been kicking around here lately.
I agree, and I for one love my wife’s rolls.

You seriously DON’T know droves of men exactly as described here? What industry do you work in, anyways???

I say she’s nailed it.

I have to agree.

Why anyone would expect a women and children first policy when there are more than enough life boats for everybody is beyond me. All women and children first would have done is added more confusion to the situation and separated traveling families. It quite possibly would have resulted in more lives lost.

Nope. I tend to hang out with fellow Catholics.
That might explain why you so often fail to see the effects liberal political policies have on larger society.

Suggestion: Join a bowling league. You won’t believe what the world is really like.

I work in the development and construction industry. While I can’t claim the blue collar mantle myself, I certainly come into daily contact with what I call ‘real’ America. It’s a scary place when you know better.

There were not “more than enough” lifeboats available. Half of them were on the underwater side of the ship. Survivors have said as much.

Indeed? Presumptuous, aren’t we?

I’ll leave bowling and its high intellectual demands to those in the development and construction industry.

Or so you think. My contact with the real world is not in building houses as you do, but in being one of 7,500 employees who provide services to some 1.2 million state residents to ensure that citizens are healthy, safe, and enjoying a decent quality of life.

What an insightful thread!

I just popped in to recommend that everyone read this book: amazon.com/Marriage-Family-Life-Saint-Chrysostom/dp/0913836869/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1328037146&sr=8-2

I’m getting married in November, and this book so eloquently and delightfully highlights the roles of both men and women in marriage that I would highly recommend it to anyone who is married, looking to get married, or who loves an excellent defense/ellaboration on the gospel by one of the Church Fathers.

It was amazing to me after reading this book that anyone could ever believe that Catholicism was oppressive towards women. Saint John Crysostom avidly defends the rights of women, and of men, showing how they are different yet equal to each other and both deserving of all the respect and love that we should show to our fellow human beings. I spent most of my time reading this book quoting stuff out loud to my fiance, who also thought it was amazing, haha!

You are right. The faith isn’t oppressive towards women, but there are Catholics, over the centuries, ignorant of Church teachings, who have been oppressive.

You can look at the photos of the ship evacuating. You can see all of the lifeboats being launched from the listing starboard side long before it went underwater.

These women have been sold a bill of goods. They bought the lie. Eve comes to mind.😉 She also bought the lie. Satan is smart yes, but some women needed to sharpen their intellectual skills.
No kidding. And, women across all generations have bought it, it seems. Yesterday, I read the following letter in Dear Abby and it just made me sad and discouraged, to think that this how so many women think and live today.

Dear Abby • I’m a mature woman who has been seeing a gentleman for five months. We have dinner together, go dancing, watch movies, have game nights with friends, etc. We are together at least four nights a week, and each night it ends the same way. We sit close, hold hands for almost an hour, kiss for several minutes, hug, and then go our separate ways. I’m ready for more.

Don’t get me wrong. I’m not looking for marriage. But along with really enjoying his company, I’m very physically attracted to him. We’re both kind of shy.

Can you suggest any nonthreatening way to bring up the subject of becoming more intimate? Or should I continue to just wait for him to make a move? — Stuck at First Base In California

I do not know any men that would have acted that way.
I can’t say I miss it either.

If all it would take to witness this miscreant behavior is joining a bowling league, I will pass on the invitation.

Fortunately though, I have been to a few bowling alleys and the league players are likewise shocked with the behavior of this ‘Captain’.

I submit that the bowling league being so deviant may be a local phenomena.

I saw this article last night about fertility, in men and women, and how important sunlight is for that biological function. What was interesting in the study was the finding of how dependent our sex hormones are on UVB exposure.

It has often been reported that males testosterone levels have been dropping over the last few decades. Possibly a contributing factor for that has been advice to avoid all sun exposure. And naturally with lower test levels might come personality differences.

“Vitamin D and fertility in men and women”

us2.campaign-archive2.com/?u=f545cba30e1f9697fddbe8acb&id=20789972d6&e=d37488c337

snippet from Dr. Cannell’s article:
Every year, billions are spent in fertility clinics; the result of which is often in vitro fertilization (IVF). About 5 years ago, I began receiving emails from a nurse practitioner in Indiana who works in a fertility clinic. Her experience was dramatic; 5,000 IU/day for both the man and woman frequently resulted in a healthy baby. However, her last email to me was quite sad, she was in danger of losing her job as her boss, a gynecologist, was losing money due to vitamin D. He ordered her to stop advocating it or lose her job.
Today, the Daily Mail and several other newspapers reviewed a lengthy article in The European Journal of Endocrinology that concluded, “Given the high prevalence of infertility as well as vitamin D insufficiency in otherwise healthy young women and men and the possible role of vitamin D in human reproduction, research might lead to new therapeutic approaches such as vitamin D supplementation in the treatment of female and male reproductive disorders.”
Critical to this carefully caged advice is the fact that men need help as frequently as the women do. “Population-based studies found that in 30-40% of infertile couples the underlying cause is the male factor. In this context it should be mentioned that the overall semen quality of men is decreasing, which might partly be explained by environmental factors. Indeed, as much as 20% of young men have sperm concentration below the WHO recommendation level and 40% present with sperm concentrations below a level that is considered optimal for fertility.” Pretty amazing, especially when you realize these men have normal testosterone levels but that vitamin D levels are steadily decreasing…

Indeed? Presumptuous, aren’t we?
Possibly. It’s an occupational hazard of looking for patterns that explain observations. So I might indeed by prsumptuous. Or I might be right. You won’t know until you put yourself in a place where you experience how Joe Sixpack actually treats and talks about women.

LOL, EVERYBODY is shocked at the behavior of the captain when on dry land reading about it. Including the people who would behave exactly the same way in a dark ship listing badly creaking the death throes of buckling bulkheads and rushig waters!

But ask deeper among those shocked bowlers and find out how many of them have cheated on their wives, failed to keep up child support, cheated or hid assets in divorce court, etc and you find out where they really stand. Why would they behave any different in a different sort of sinking ship?
