You won’t know until you put yourself in a place where you experience how Joe Sixpack actually treats and talks about women.
Even accepting your premise that blue collar workers are exactly like that (and I don’t believe that we can make such a blanket condemnation), why would I want to associate with men like that?

But ask deeper among those shocked bowlers and find out how many of them have cheated on their wives, failed to keep up child support, cheated or hid assets in divorce court, etc and you find out where they really stand. Why would they behave any different in a different sort of sinking ship?
Find out? How would you suggest that we find that out? It’s not anything that anyone would want to own up to.

You’d be amazed at what comes up in conversation. And don’t go trying to make me singling out bowlers or construction workers specifically. Those are sample examples in a larger population. This is a broad cross section of America these days.

I’d love to see the statistics backing up that last sentence.

Well it is always a conversation stopper when someone demands a credentialed study to support everyday observations.

But I’m pretty sure there is a recurring magazine TV show on Friday nights called “What Would You Do?” in which the producers set up apalling circumstances and draw people in to see who will do what is right and who simply looks out for themselves. The results aren’t pretty, though they do try to spend more time with the good guys than the more numerous bad ones.

You know about original sin, right? 😉

If enough people would challenge “everyday observations,” there’d be a lot less B.S. in conversations, and maybe even a bit more examination of the statements people are making.

OK. Have fun in Utopia. I’ll keep slogging along in a world of sinners. One that includes me.

Watch them. Actions will betray thoughts every time.

One of the heroes I have had in my life is an old man that I do not even know the name of.
I saw him in a parking lot at a local store when I was 13 years old.
He was older then dirt at the time, walked unsteadily with a cane and looked like any moment a slight breeze could carry him off.
He was walking out with his wife, when they got to the car, he walked with her around the car and opened the door for his wife.
He then closed the door for her and walked around to get in and drive off.

I know no more of him then what I witnessed in that 15 second timeframe.
But the display of chivalry was noted and the 13 year old I was at the time was duly impressed and decided at the time that he would never forget and always try to emulate.

Likewise there are others that in a similar 15 seconds tell us everything we need to know to stay away from them.

How can you be certain it is a broad section instead of simply the people you associate with?

You may so believe, but I think you can be taken in by surface actions, like chivalry to one’s spouse.

The foulmouthed, for example. I can see that.

As an attorney, I have found that I can’t accept just anything that someone, a client, or opposing counsel or his client, or witnesses say. Not utopia - a search for truth to the extent that it might be discernable - in that world of sinners you speak of.

There are also clever liars and people who can pull the wool over nearly anyone’s eyes. Remember Bernie Madoff? His actions didn’t raise any suspicions until thousands were hurt by them to the tune of millions of dollars. And, he’s just one man.

The issue I have is the assumption that bad behavior by some is a new phenomena. I remember reading after the Costa Concordia disaster that it was a myth that the Titanic was evacuated “women and children first”. In reality, the higher class passengers mostly got lifeboats and the steerage passengers mostly drowned. Bad behavior is not a new phenomena, it has occured from time to time throughout human history. If anything, things have been a bit better lately than in the past.

Not to mention ships like the HMS Birkenstock or the Titanic had crew members with guns to enforce the captain’s orders.

Giving up your seat on a lifeboat is the equivalent of jumping on a live grenade. It is very courageous and commendable when it is done, but it isn’t something that is to be expected or seen as a duty. I can understand saving a child of course but I don’t see any particular reason that women should get priority.

First off. Lets not demonise Italian men. Most of the ships crew also fled without helping passengers. And they came from all around the world. Indeed many were women. And no. I am not italian.
Secondly. I think women are starting to reap what they sowed. they wanted to be treated equal so they are being treated equal. All of our lives men have been told that we are the same in everyway. Women are just as capable as men in everything. So don’t go crying around when you get what you want. Welcome to the world of man. It can be hard and it can suck at times and most of the time noone gives a ****.
Luckily, those same feeling don’t apply to children. And the vast majority of men still give them priority in emegencies.

I am a woman and I agree with this. Women are adults, not children.

Not exactly in every way - men tend to be physically stronger and have more stamina than women, but as a general rule, you’re pretty much on the mark.

The women in my family are as good as the men in the family and they expected to be treated equally - and are.

There’s no world of men and world of women. Except for having babies, women are the equals of men, especially intellectually. “I am woman, hear me roar.” 👍

Studies have showed that women are not as intelligent as men…On average.
But as i was saying. They have claimed to be equal. The last two generations of males have been taught that women are their equals. So why the out rage when something like this happens? Reap what you sow ladies…Reap what you sow.
