If I’m a cop, it’s my job to cover my fellow officer’s back or I, in good conscience, can’t expect him to cover mine. If he’s performing his job legally, I will not leave his wing because of disagreements I may have with his job.

If I’m a doctor, Catholic or not:
…this is what I’m giving my oath to do.

Should a Pharmacist refuse to work in a store that sell condoms? I use them over my shotgun barrel in heavy brush conditions.

Should that same Pharmacist refuse hormone treatment prescribed to a celibate woman suffering menstrual problems?

Back to the cop…If you can’t cover my back when I’m upholding a legal law because of your beliefs, DO NOT become a cop. My life and the lives of those I’m protecting is worth more to me than your beliefs.
So you would assist someone in the murder of a child. Disgusting.

OK Pal…if that’s what you read but it’s you who put those words in my mouth.I believe I’ll disengage and join Fairwinds. Someplace your not. :tiphat:

Were you not saying that a Cathokic doctor should refer a pregnant woman who wants an abortion to another doctor who would perform abortions?

He wasn’t reading into it, maybe you should read what you had written in terms of Abortion, it’s you guys that need to re-think your position.
constraints are necessary to ensure the legal, equitable, and efficient delivery of health care:
students and trainees must be aware of the commitments of the profession and be prepared to undertake these or not become doctors
The medical profession has an obligation to ensure that all patients are aware of the full range of services to which they are entitled
Any would-be conscientious objector must ensure that patients know about and receive care that they are entitled to from another professional in a timely manner that does not compromise their access to care
Doctors who compromise the delivery of medical services to patients on conscience grounds must be punished through removal of licence to practise and other legal mechanisms
The place for expression and consideration of different values is at the level of policy relating to public medicine.
Abortion is a medical service. Abortion is labelled as part of health care.

This oath makes me sick. Especially this part ā€œDoctors who compromise the delivery of medical services **(ie Abortions) **to patients on conscience grounds must be punished through removal of licence to practise and other legal mechanisms.ā€

This is exactly why Jesus taught us not to take Oaths.

*Matthew 5:33-37

Oaths

33 ā€œAgain, you have heard that it was said to the people long ago, ā€˜Do not break your oath, but fulfill to the Lord the vows you have made.’ 34 But I tell you, do not swear an oath at all: either by heaven, for it is God’s throne; 35 or by the earth, for it is his footstool; or by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the Great King. 36 And do not swear by your head, for you cannot make even one hair white or black. 37 All you need to say is simply ā€˜Yes’ or ā€˜No’; anything beyond this comes from the evil one.*

**You need to watch this **Milgram’s Experiment

Not only will you have ā€œWe require you to continueā€ but you will also have ā€œYou took an Oath that swore you would do thisā€ and ā€œIf you refuse to do this you will suffer legal consequences.ā€

*Matthew 16:24-27

24 Then Jesus said to his disciples:

If any of you want to be my followers, you must forget about yourself. You must take up your cross and follow me. 25 If you want to save your life,[e] you will destroy it. But if you give up your life for me, you will find it. 26 What will you gain, if you own the whole world but destroy yourself? What would you give to get back your soul?

27 The Son of Man will soon come in the glory of his Father and with his angels to reward all people for what they have done. *

Should we leave our profession, work and social status in order to attain the kingdom of God? No. Instead we should learn how to use them, because he who becomes attached to the material goods that he possesses and is willing to sacrifice everything in order to keep them, will discover in the end that all that he had accumulated on earth has no value at all in the Kingdom of Heaven.

NO, that’s not what I say, that’s what the AMA says. I’m not a doctor, I don’t have to make that decision and. What I’ll say for the last time, If you fail to cover my back while I’m making a legal arrest, first you’ll hear it from me, then your training officer and Sargent will hear it from me, then the Captain will hear it from me and finally the Chief will hear it from me. And most likely you’ll have wasted your time and money becoming a cop because you probably won’t be one for long. And if for some reason you remained, you’d always wonder if your fellow officers may not return your lack of duty to you one day. One tends to get what they give.

Again, my feelings on abortion are not any weaker than ā€œdevoutchristiansā€ because I’m relaying what a doctor vows to do. The OP wasn’t asking about a career in medicine yet you can’t seam to get that through your head.

So you wouldn’t encourage a Catholic doctor to obey the AMA in this case?

Your really good at suckering people into your agenda. What a Catholic doctor obeys or disobeys is between he and his God. What’s it got to do with the duties of a cop? Your being rather insulting to the Law Enforcement Profession by tying it to abortion. Hope your attitude changes if you ever need one. I really don’t want to play your game, it’s of no use to the OP.

So being an accomplice to murder is ā€œbetween he and his Godā€? If that’s the case then there are a lot of Germans who need to be unhanged.

We are not relating abortion in the Medical Profession with just the Law Enforcement Profession, we are relating it to every and all Professions. Abortion is just a classic example of where our laws today have got it disastrously wrong. It’s a classic example of where we have a moral obligation not to do our job. We should all try and be prepared to martyr our Job if it is in conflict with God, we can do this by strengthening ourselves with prayer.

It’s a classic example of this passage here -

*Matthew 16:24-27

24 Then Jesus said to his disciples:

If any of you want to be my followers, you must forget about yourself. You must take up your cross and follow me. 25 If you want to save your life, you will destroy it. I hope your attitude changes, please watch this - Milgram’s Experiment

Not only will you have ā€œThe experiment requires you to continueā€ but you will also have ā€œYou took an Oath that swore you would do thisā€ and ā€œIf you refuse to do this you will suffer severe consequences.ā€

So we should strengthen ourselves with prayer so that we may always be ready to martyr our Job if it is in conflict with God, it doesn’t mean we don’t get a job, it just means that we should not be willing to do anything it requires of us when it’s in conflict with God in order to keep it.

God Bless
