T.V. used 2 tons. This was 2700 tons.
Question. Why was this not distributed to farmers in small quantities to fertilize their crops?
This was seized in 2014. Ample time to set up a distribution system to legitimate farmers.

My money is on someone in the government planned to sell it for their own profit.

That’s the good thing about selling seizing goods. Your COGS is zero so sitting on it doesn’t hurt your bottom line much. If they were waiting to move it until such a time as it was safe to do so without a risk of being caught :man_shrugging:t2:

Pure conjecture on my part, but I doubt something of use was sitting there that long out of pure coincidence.

Timothy McVeigh also used a fertilizer based bomb against a USA government building in 1995.

What was a Russia businessman doing with that type of cargo anyway? Rather
unusual. An unscheduled stop?

Hey mate sorry the struggles. Prayers said for you guys and please keep safe. I wish we were closer and could help physically. But we’re with you.

I can think of no response except prayer for the people of Beirut. My heart aches for the tragedy they have endured.

Possibly. I thought I had read the port was run by Hezbollah. I don’t understand all
that is going on over there in the Middle East. I know Syria is bad, bad, bad.
Of course, I know Beirut has had its share of problems. Wasn’t a Marine barracks blown up in Beirut many years ago?

That was a huge, huge blast. Very neglectful of the government to leave so much in storage for so many years. If that is the case.

It seems the death toll will be higher from such a violent blast.

From what I understand of Lebanon most of the coastal region is Christian. So I doubt hezbollah controlled a whole port.

As I stated, I know very little about Lebnon and how it has fared the last 16 years with the wars in the Middle East.

And I know very little about Hezbollah, but I didn’t think it was in Lebanon so I was surprised to hear it had anything to do with running a port!

Oh, I had no idea Hezbollah was based in Lebanon. Thanks for the info.

That is a big mission for Ireland’s Defence Forces considering their armed forces
total close to 9000.

One of the comments says he continued the service. It looks like “Benediction” was occuring.

I guess that other thread should be merged into this one.

Deadly Explosion in Beirut World News
Thank you for establishing this thread blackforest. If you want this to be an “update” thread, maybe add (UPDATES) into the title. Well, I will take the OP’s lead here, early on, if anyone is being looked at suspiciously… so, I knew the police found something in London of an explosive nature, I did not know it was ammonium nitrate though, that makes perfect sense. Hezbollah stockpiled chemical behind Beirut blast in London and Germany Hezbollah kept three metric tons of ammonium nitrate, …
Horrible disaster, it appears so avoidable.

Some have been arrested, it’s more along the lines that their negligence led to this.

2750 tonnes of this exploded. That’s a lot more than Oklahoma City, other cases, etc. This was huge.

See reporting, for example here:

An American was killed also:
