Belgian archbishop seeks Church recognition of same-sex unions [CC]

For over a year I’ve been hearing how sooner or later the liberal left will eventually turn on the Pope when they realise he’s not really in agreement with them. At this point, I’m no longer expecting that to happen.
 
Though I 100% disagree with Archbishop Bonny, I’ve got to say that I find it quite refreshing that he’s even allowed to share his opinion like this. Coming from a severely conformist religious tradition (Mormonism) where any Bishop who spoke like this would immediately be silenced, followed by much stricter disciplinary actions, it’s nice to know that the Catholic Church’s detractors are wrong in saying the Vatican micromanages all of its members.

I have to take this with a grain of salt since it came from the NYT. But let’s say, for the sake of argument, it’s true.

From what I read, he only supported the idea of civil unions for gay couples as a “lesser of the two evils”, comparable to Benedict saying that a male prostitute using a condom to prevent spreading an STD is a “lesser of two evils”.

Either way, it is not true that Francis is waiting for an opportunity to change doctrine or allow same-sex unions. A lesser evil is still evil, and Francis knows that. He never said that sodomy is okay.

Bottom line, both sides of the ideological spectrum are looking to nab Francis for something. In other news, the sky is blue and bears dump in the woods.

When the society uses “tolerance” and “acceptance” to promote abnormality and encourages the gay to the open, it manipulates people’s moral standard. The news media tries to make the abnormal normal and to portray the black as white. It forces the majority to swallow immorality. That is how it makes morality decline. If the majority goes along with this absurdity, soon humanity will be destroyed, and that is exactly what the devil wants.

I feel quite the opposite. He is supposed representing the Church. If his opinion is not that of the Church then he is not of the Church. He should be drawn and quartered.

I feel quite the opposite. He is supposed representing the Church. If his opinion is not that of the Church’s then he is not of the Church. He should be drawn and quartered.
 
It seems to me that our One Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church needs our prayers more than ever. We must pray that the Bark of St. Peter is kept on the course of authentic Christian teaching and doctrine.
 
I find Bishop Bonny’s suggestions very refreshing and very true to the ideals of marriage - faithfulness, commitment, care. Every human being has a need for deep relationship. I think it is time we became open to the fact that SSM is coming.

About the point of your comment. You’re seeing this more and more. Bishops and Cardinals making comments that are so contrary to Church teachings that they’re downright scandalous. How long have they held these views? And if they were known about, why were they appointed such high positions in the Church to begin with?

I don’t know why they were appointed such high positions, but I know there is a Cardinal who implied that he doesn’t believe in the resurrection.

Here is the Church’s view on marriage. Sexual complimentary is part of it which living in homosexuality will never happen. There are other reasons to, but true marriage remains between one man and one woman

I think you missed that point that Brandon Cal was making.

Added to that, it appears that the good Cardinal’s comments were reported by the secular press, and that in and of itself should give everyone pause to wonder if he has been quoted out of context (as happened with Benedict 16).
