Beloved Catholic priest found slain in California church rectory

Thinking before attempting to besmirch the
reputation of a murdered priest would be not only sensible
but considerate of others in grief as well.

It is (or at least as of a couple of hours ago, was) plausible because there was no other information. And suicide is not a sin.

Another untruth. Objectively suicide remains a serious
sin. It’s also wrong for you to make unfounded
insinuations concerning the character of someone
you know nothing about. And if you are claiming
special knowledge of the man and his actions
you should have been stating that to the police not
on Catholic Answers.
I can’t make a case for your behavior in any positive
or truthful light.

Driving the priest’s vehicle. His picture has been out on Fugitive Watch for hours, they knew who they were looking for !!! Yes, he has been caught. Thanks be to God.
 
As of about an hour ago, CNN has reported that the suspect from one of the links posted earlier has been taken into police custody: cnn.com/2014/01/02/us/california-priest-killed/

I hope that the authorities are able to piece together what happened and determine exactly if the man in custody is responsible so that people can get some semblance of closure.
 
Praying for the repose of Father Freed’s soul and for the man accused of killing him.
 
Security needs to be updated at St. Bernards.
This is not the first time the rectory and garage
have been broken into. The Church was updated
after a transient set the place on fire and broke
the statues but I don’t think much has been done
to the rectory which is merely an old Victorian
home next door.

Let us pray daily for a Legion of Angels to surround the Church and the rectory and protect it. Hear our prayers, O Lord. Let our cries come unto Thee.
 
May my prayers join with yours. Especially, we recall the Good Shepherd who says, “I have come that they may have life, and have it abundantly.” So, may Father Eric Freed have rest and peace through Eternal Life in Christ Jesus. May his family, relatives, friends, and parishioners know the Life of which Jesus speaks as he comforts and consoles them with his love. And, may we who might be threatened by such tragedy, know that he abandons us not because he is, indeed, the Good Shepherd.

He is still a suspect no matter how bad it may look for him. And according to an article that I read, the suspect was a passenger in his step- father’s truck when he was arrested. It is a tragedy what has happened to the good pastor. But we must be careful in not spreading false information.
 
Someone has been arrested. Fr did not commit suicide. The autopsy report is coming but it it said to be blunt force trauma. This parish is in the place my father grew up and he taught at the college my father attended for his B.S.

What depravity would cause such actions. I pray for his soul and for those who knew and loved him.

Oops, you are right, he was not driving the vehicle, my bad. His picture was on Fugitive Watch for hours before he was finally captured. I, for one, am glad he is off the street.
 
God bless Fr. Freed for his service to the church and to Our Lord’s people! May he rest in peace.
